You're only comparing Liverpool and ManYoo there, though. As a United fan, it would seem you're wanting to have a go at Liverpool just because you don't like them. You say they've had "by far the most changes", but in the lists you've got there I count 14 for Liverpool (not including the CL kit, but you're inaccurate in stating that we had a new home kit in 97/98, it was actually the same as our 96/97 one) and 13 for Man Utd, and that's ignoring the fact that (a) You've forgotten the new black away kit last season (different from the 03/04 third kit) and (b) you only go back to 98/99 for United, but 97/98 for Liverpool.

So based on that list - assuming it's accurate even with the mistakes I've pointed out - Liverpool and United are about even for strip changes in recent years. But that's not taking into account other clubs - there are clubs who've changed sponsor and make far more frequently, and therefore have had to change kit more often. Someone mentioned Boro - I reckon they'd be up at or near the top of the list.

Every Liverpool home kit for the past ten years or so has lasted for two seasons - which is not true of United because you've changed manufacturer and sponsor in that time - and yes, we have a new away kit every season but that's true of EVERY Prem club, pretty much. Clubs like West Brom and Villa have far less excuse, in my opinion, for changing their home shirts this season - both have the same manufacturers and sponsors as last year (and both 04/05 kits were new kits) yet they've decided to change design. That, in my view, is not on.

While the list is no means comprehensive, My local football shop told me that Liverpool have changed more frequently than United (Arsenal are fast catching up but changed sponsor three times in that period). I also agree that clubs that don't change sponsor/supplier should be made to keep each shirt for a minimum of 2 seasons (three in the event of a new manufacturer/sponsor situation, then they could retaind the home and change the away seperately)

Obviously by far the biggest rip offs are the European teams (i.e Nike and Adidas) who seem to only retain any strip for one year. And as is pointed out, there isn't usually a radical difference from season to season. Even the national teams tend to stay the same for 2 years.

The national teams have new jerseys every two years because they only play in major tournaments every two years.

I really don't see the problem with having new kits every year. You guys make it sound like the clubs are obligating their fans to buy the new ones. The only way that new kits affect fans is by giving them another style they might prefer. If the fans don't like the new jerseys, they don't have to wait two years for better ones. Whenever I go to matches the fans are wearing old and new jerseys and I think it's more fun that way.

I usually pick up the old jerseys at the end of season sales (barring United's). I was wearing the 2003-4 Real Madrid shirt today and there was hardly any difference between it and the subsequent ones! Nike's changes are even harder to spot, someone mistook my 2004 Barca for last seasons!

I know the clubs don't force the fans at gunpoint, but people like to have the latest shirt as a sign of fashion.

Not sure if this is real. Sparta Praha away 05/06.

very nice (Y)

Steaua keep their kits for two seasons at a time, both home and away so we will be sporting the same one's as last year this season coming up.
