newbies need to help with patch and chipping

hiya guys...
ive been posting here for quite some time now, and im sure like myself there are people who just have a PS2 and PES/PES2, and like myself would love to be correctly and simply informed on how to get a patch to work step by step.

i know i need to get my ps2 chipped to play we6fe.. and i will be doing so very shortly... also ive been told i have to get a replay action pack, ie cd and card... which i will soon

first of all .. what sort of chip is the best and latest version...ie. one which allows me to play japanese games on a pal system, and also allows me to have patches work???

my nephew told me the chip he has only works for cds, and not dvds....apparenly the chip which works for dvds only works for the newest model ps2... so this is really confusing me...
can someone please enlighten me on what chip is the best to get.. and one which will be for long term use, ie. allow for dvds (im sure we games will soon be dvd)

You need to get a program like PPF-O Matic.

When you run this program, you tell it where your patch is on your hard disk (.ppf file) and where the image of the game is on your hard disk (.bin file). you then click Patch. You then burn the new .bin file to a CD using something like CDRWIN.

just a few more questions if i may:

1. where do i download PPF-O Matic?

2. can you patch a backup of a game... eg.. if my friend was to get we6fe and i copied it... does it still work like an original , ie. being able to be patched?or does this depend on the chip used?

3. one more thing on chipping.... what are the best chips to put in a ps2...
ive heard some are real good and dont need action replays...
also ive heard most just work for cds.... and the ones that work with dvd's are only for the latest ps2 models...

Ok here goes

2) I am not sure about patching the Original, I dont see why not, if its on a CD (Which I think it is) then you should be able to back it up. I bought the PAL Version of PES for the PS2 which was on a CD, and I was able to back that up.

3) The Chip I have is a Neo-Key 2.2, which means I can only boot CDR's, and I need to use an Action Replay to Boot From. The Best Chip to go for now is either a Messiah or a Magic2. These will directly boot CDR's & DVDR's.

Where in Australia are ya? Cause if your in Sydney then I know a place that will put in a mod chip for you (Messiah Chip, Plays all original games, dvds and 'backups')

I got mine in last week and it works great, they were very helpfull aswell, cost $250 though

Just use the knife trick on your ps2, then you won't need a dodgey mod chip at all. You can boot Cd and DVD backups or imports.

You simply remove the front of the CD tray, cut a strip off of an old credit card and you use it to slide open the cd tray without the PS2 knowing.

You need an Action replay 2 or Gameshark 2.

It'll save you paying for a mod chip and some guy to do it for you, a big saving. It's also less likely to damage your system permenantly.

How-To page for knife trick and patching WE6

http://winning_eleven_6.tripod.com is a little page I made detailing how I was able to patch WE6 using freeware tools, and then how to use a GameShark/ActionReplay CD to boot the burned copy of WE6 using the knife trick. The page has lots of descriptions and links to the various programs used to create the patch and is based on info I found on Cousin Fizz's page, but I think my page is a little easier to understand since I've included a number of diagrams.

Yesterday I used the same method described on the tripod page to patch WE6FE with the WeDoIt patch . . . unbelievable. It's amazing.

Oh, the url above also tells how you can save money by buying a GS/AR upgrade CD instead of a full GS/AR . . .
