Junior Seau reportedly committed suicide this morning by a self-inflicted gunshot to the chest. Seau was a legend here in the San Diego comparing him to the likes of Tony Gwynn and Shifty Fauts. He meant so much to the community and to the Charger fans. This is a truely sad and lamentable loss. I think I'm going to go pay my respects to this man with some of my relatives and friends, I live 25 minutes away from his home in the Oceanside pier.

R.I.P. Junior Seau. My condolences and prayers go out to his family.

I'm sure the Chargers will dedicate and honor this season to him with a #55 patch/sticker on the jersey/helmet.

What an unfortunate way for us to start this season... :-(

Packers are going to be ******* nasty next year. A lot of defensive problems were addressed in the draft. And, you know, we were 15-1 last year.

This year you mean. We play you in the 1st game of pre-season. Yeah, the Chargers did the same thing in the draft, addressing our pass defence.

Charger's offseason signings and draft picks...

Free Agent signings:

LB Jarret Johnson ...talk about nasty. (H)
FB La'Ron McClain ...excellent signing, the best IMO.
WR Eddie Royal ...good speedy receiver.
WR Robert Meachem ...big target.
WR Roscoe Parrish ...another speedy receiver, good KR/PR.
TE Dante Rosario ...adds depth at this position.

Vincent Carlos*son, Marcus McNeil, and Mike Tolbert our biggest losses. I'll miss Carlos*son and Tolbert, they gave alot to the team.

Chargers Draft:

1 (18) Melvin Ingram OLB S. Carolina
2 (40) Kendall Reyes DT Conneticut
3 (73) Brandon Taylor FS LSU
4 (110) Ladarious Green TE Lousiana-L.
5 (140) Johnnie Troutman G Penn St.
7 (226) David Molk C Michigan
7 ((250) Edwin Baker RB Michigan St.

Melvin Ingram is a BEAST. Brandon Taylor was a big surprise still being there in the 3rd round. The team has high hopes about Green, maybe a Gates-type potential. Molk was the strongest player in the entire draft and Michigan historically produces good OL.

Chargers to the Super Bowl, you heard it here first. (H) !!!

my eagles finally got some linebacker support, we should be ready this season.
should give green bay a challenge in the playoffs.

Carlos*son has fell off, you were better letting him go, your biggest loss was sproles to the saints last year.

you need depth at the te position, hopefully for you they arent gates like & miss have their careers due to a foot injury.

Vincent Carlos*son wanted a long-term contract that the Chargers weren't gonna give him, I don't he ever fell off, he also had some off the field problems. I was only referring to the players that left this season, Sproleszy was another player we lost due to teams offering a bigger contract than we could.

I think we have depht at the TE position.
1 A. Gates
2 R. McMichael
3 D. Rosario
4 K. Sperry
5 L. Green

What we're really missing is a 2nd RB to help out Mathews with the load. We have Curtis Brinkley a 2nd-year guy who I'm confident will step up when needed and we drafted this kid Edwin Baker. I remember the days we had Tomlinson, Turner, and Sproles in the backfield. That was something else...

We look pretty solid, the preseason will tell us who is ready to fill in some depth holes we have like I said at 2nd RB, 3rd CB, and the OL which took a big hit last year after Chris Dielman decided it was best for him to retire after playing with a concussion during a game.

I can't wait till I go watch them practice. (H)

Matthews has fumble-itis. A bad case of it.

Anyway, Pats had a strong draft and the collection of old WRs looks good (except Welker hasn't signed the tender), and of course there's Gronk and AHern. I think Ridley is gonna have a breakout year. Hopefully McDaniels takes what he learned from his stint in Denver and St. Louis and makes the offense strong, balanced and unpredictable.

The question mark will be the defense as it has been for years now. Hope Bones Jones' little bro and Hightower can help boost the defense. I'm withholding judgement on Wilson because he looks like a reach, but hopefully he'll impress.

Meh, nothing out of this world he can't work on and fix.

You guys think we could have a fantasy league going on when the season comes around, that is IF we get enough people? Probably not huh, but if we do...it could be fun.

Cant remember the last time I've been this excited to be a Niners fan. I got my 70" TV last week, will be getting Sunday Ticket as soon as the renewal for this season starts.

If only we had a better QB. Nothing against Alex Smith, but I just dont see it happening with him. Hopefully he proves wrong. But with weapons like...

TE: Vernon Davis
WR: Randy Moss
WR: Mario Manningham
WR: Michael Crabtree
RB: Frank Fore
RB: Brandon Jacobs
RB: LaMichael James

how can you go wrong? (H)

The internet combined with the salary cap has really turned NFL fans into a strange bunch. I think this sport is the most different to follow than anything else. There's optimism, but also a strange calming realism that we know in the NFL you can't buy your way to success, the best way is to stockpile picks and then wait years for the late round guys to develop. I don't know a single person who cares much about the Draft beyond the first round for that reason, it's a bunch of random guys who may or may not pan out, and you just have to trust your front office. Just because you know a guy (like LaMichael James for instance) has no bearing on how he'll play as a pro.

TE: Vernon Davis - Beast
WR: Randy Moss - Past it (would love to see him tear it up though)
WR: Mario Manningham - Overrated after the SB (yes, I'm still salty)
WR: Michael Crabtree - Promising but hasn't produced anything to compensate holding out
RB: Frank Fore - never heard of him. (H)
RB: Brandon Jacobs - Overrated and past it
RB: LaMichael James - Solid but as a rookie no idea how he'll pan out.

how can you go wrong? (H)

I like the Niners. Hell of a story last year, but they're top heavy on defense and the offense is all ball control to play in the team's strength. I'm extremely jealous of that defense. Whatever Harbaugh did worked.

Any of you guys interested in doing a Fantasy league? Best to get 10-12 teams hopefully, and the time zones will make a live draft somewhat difficult but I'm sure we'll find a way (Y) (auto-draft if worse comes to worse)

I'm just waiting to see whether Minnesota still has a team. I don't want to see the Los Angeles Vikings, but the state can't really afford to be throwing money at a stadium project right now. But we probably will anyway...:-(

P.S. Speaking of, can someone inform me how California of all places CAN afford to spend millions in nonexistant taxpayer dollars on a stadium?

They aren't. There are two different private groups who are building complexes, and would fund it by the rent from an NFL team and of course tons of other big events like concerts and car shows or whatever. One is like downtown by Staples, which is a cool idea, but never going to happen. I think the other one is in a ****ty out of the way place.

As funny as it would be to see the Vikings go to LA, I just love the NFC North Division too much to take any joy in it. Too much history.

I'd be up for fantasy football :)

Pats looking good so far. Who needs an O-line when you have 200 receivers, right?

Packers might have both!

They don't have Gronk though do they

We also have Wilfork. A giant and a gent!

What does everyone think of the Nike gear? Pretty much similar to last year.

I'm happy it looks exactly the same, because I'm not buying any jerseys anytime soon. Although a Gronk jersey would be great.
