It was just announced 30 minutes ago. I've never really been an NHL fan but I can imagine how much this sucks for the people that are. To me when they first started to talk about it last season I knew it was gonna happen just because hockey isn't nearly as popular as football or basketball or even baseball ( :-puke: ) and it just didn't really have a good way of coming across to the people who don't really follow it, for example when I first came to the USA 4 years ago I though that American Football was a piece of crap but now I love it and I don't miss any Panthers games and that is because of the great marketing and tv popularity that the NFL has, they are able to gather fans from everywhere. I think the NHL will eventually be back but not this season, and I'm sure there's not gonna be nearly as many teams as before. This is really sad and I hope they get it back up as soon as possible :(

Sad day for the sport.

Personally, I want the cap, so therefore I'm on the NHL's side. The PA are just being greedy, I mean the NFL have a cap, works fine there.

I heard the NHLPA made an offer which included a $30M team salary cap (or something around there) but Bettman still turned it down

wouldn't surprise me if he gets fired in a few years time



PS: Sportsnet were saying how none of the major American news channels had coverage of the situation, saying how ABC talked about it for about 30 seconds, CBS for 20, NBC and CNN didn't even mention it


this is why the sport is going down the drain (N)

Wasn't really surprised to see that though because in the US most people don't care about hockey at all. I mean just last night there was a poll on espn.com that asked what do you think of the NHL lockout and like 25% said i'll miss the season, 25% said i'll miss hockey around playoff time and 50% said I don't care at all, so that should tell the league something.

i'd honestly do it... hockey exposure is horrible. i find myself liking the sport, i try to catch every blackhawks game, either on the radio or tv, but i still like football, basketball, and soccer better.

Even though the Blackhawks and Blue Carlos*ets are terrible, I still am going to miss watching them this year.

The NHL needs to contract badly. I think teams like the Coyotes, Panthers, Predators and Ducks have got to go. They are in horrible hockey markets. Some expansion clubs like Minnesota and Columbus are worth keeping, but others need to be cut loose.

Although I agree with contraction, the players association will never allow it to happen. Why? It will result in the loss of jobs.

To be honest I think that if Carter stays healthy this year you guys have a chance to make the playoffs.

The south doesnt (Atlanta, Nashville, Phoenix etc.).

New York, Detroit, Minnesota, Philly is a different story. Personally, i dont know what im going to do this fall. I have more time to study now, but **** that. I want my Flyers.

my ass, as soon as the Raptors go 5 games under .500, he's gonna go and fake some stupid knee injury and sideline himself for 4 months :rolleyes:
