Super Eagles to rescue Saints from Hod return!
11:06 February, 19, 2004
Southampton fans will no doubt be pleased to discover that Glenn Hoddle has been targeted to take over the Nigerian national team.
Hoddle has been strongly linked with a return to the Saints, just three years after he controversially walked out on the club to join Tottenham Hotspur.
This speculation has led to major unrest by the Southampton fans, who are furious that chairman Rupert Lowe could even consider re-employing the former England boss.
However, the St Mary’s faithful will be heartened by the news that Nigeria could well make an approach to hire him as their national coach.
A Nigerian FA source confirmed that Hoddle was high on the wanted list: "We need a tactician who can mould the team into a cohesive unit, as we saw Roger Lemerre do with Tunisia. We are at the exploratory stage. Our next board meeting we will review the candidates."
