Wow ... man sometimes I hate Nike sponsorship and world wide machinery ... like Coca Cola or that kind of brands, but that idea of charity deserves support. i'd like to buy one, but here in Peru there aren't any of those :(

Wow. How do you know that, Liam?

I know a few people who know a few people if you know what I mean :brow:

One of the best examples for you Brian would be Lehmann, In the German league he was one of Uhlsports main sponsered players. Now hes joined a Nike sponsered club, he has to wear Nike gloves or allow Nike to stitch the backhands of the Vapor Grip3 gloves to his Uhlsport gloves. I saw a pic of him in training with Germany last time they had a friendly, he was wearing Uhlsport there.

Why do you think Rustu never got played at Barca, cause he refused to wear Nike seeing as he was sponsered by Adidas.

its not about nike getting everyone to wear their stuff, its about nike PAYING the players theMOST to wear nike...

The other players aren't wearing Nike because of a few reasons.

1 - Most the players you mention are tied down to contracts. Infact probably every playe is tied down to a contract with some supplier. Its not like Nike can just break that contract

2 - Nike are currently looking to break into the goalkeeping market. There renowned for being one of the best 2 boot makers in the world, you can't get much better then that. But with semi pro/amateur keepers, they make some of the worst gloves ever. If you get in a few big names Lehmann, Howard, Ricardo and I remember Schmeichel even wore a pair of Reusch's with a Nike backhand towards the end of his career. People will start to wear your gloves.

Just so I can give you an idea of what I mean

Lehmann playing for Germany May 27th

Lehmann playing for Arsenal 3 games into the season (would of found earlier picture but no decent view of gloves)

I have seen people wearing yellow Nike baller bands with just a tick on them, a rip off from the Livestrong band if i would say so. Rio Ferdinand has been wearing the blue band too.

Liam, Jens actually tried to wear his Nike gloves (at least some reports said they were Nike, maybe they were the modified Uhlsports) for Germany and got in trouble. The players in the German national team have to wear adidas when they play for them, or else they don't get picked.

Germany keeper Lehmann rapped over wrong gloves

BERLIN (Reuters) - Germany goalkeeper Jens Lehmann must change his gloves or risk losing his chance of playing in the 2006 World Cup, the German football association (DFB) said on Tuesday.

Lehmann, who has been engaged in a war of words with Oliver Kahn over who is Germany's best keeper, was given a rare start in a friendly against Iran at the weekend, where he impressed with a polished display as Germany won 2-0.

However his decision to wear his own gloves rather than gloves supplied by the team's sponsor Adidas during the match earned the 35 year-old a talking to from team management.

Under the terms of Germany's sponsorship and equipment contract, players must be completely kitted out in Adidas gear.

A DFB spokesman said Lehmann had been given a written reminder that he would have to wear Adidas gloves in future.

"The DFB's position is very clear: anyone who wants to play in the national team has to wear Adidas or else renounce being selected," the spokesman said.

According to the Bild newspaper, Lehmann had asked team coach Juergen Klinsmann for permission to wear the gloves in which he has helped Arsenal to a record unbeaten run of 48 games in the English Premier League.

The paper said Klinsmann had been too busy preparing for the match to give the matter much thought but that Adidas had pressured the DFB to make Lehmann wear its gloves.

didnt pires get fined for wearing a puma sweatshirt during a press conference?....i thought i read that in Yahoo...anyways, he opologized and said he would never do it again.:(

Yeah, he wore a PUMA top on a TV interview while he was in training camp with the national team and adidas went ballistic about it.

I think that this national teams contract stuff forcing the players to use certain equipment is stupid. especially when the player had a contract with another company.

No, I don't think they apply to boots. Jose Reyes isn't contracted to any sponsors, well, he was under Kelme but forget that. He used Nike boots when playing for Spain so.. No, I don't think applies with the boots.
