I'm quite stunned by the amount of people who seem to hate the Conservatives based on ''He's a twat'' or ''I don't like his face'' or ''remember how bad Thatcher was''.

People tend to forget that Thatcher rescued this country from the trade unions. We were known as ''the sick man of Europe'' when they last came into power. Seriously the country was a joke, and they turned it round. Sure, they had lost it by the time they were voted out but so what? They are not exactly the same now, and thinking that would be based on ignorance. Not voting conservative because of Thatcher is ridiculous. What about Winston Churchill? Does he have relevance to todays politics? Probably as much as Thatcher does...

You have to listen to what is being said and the underlying policeys of each party.

I listen to what Mr. Howard says and I have not heard him say anything that I disagree with. It doesn't matter that I think he looks like a vampire, mispronounces words, or that I thought John Major was a flop.

Where is the relevance of so many peoples arguments like 'he looks like a right prick, i'm not voting for him' or 'I hate Thatcher, I'm not voting conservative'? It strikes me most voters just don't have a clue what they are going on about, and just vote based on really stupid stuff like, 'I've always voted for them' or 'I really like the tie he wore the other day'. I strongly doubt that even 20% of voters read the manifestos and actually think about their vote. Then you get the fact that if you are not in a marginal you are not even relevant. So the whole election is a complete joke really.

If only one of the parties realised all they needed was a young attractive woman at the helm who promised to take her top off if she won. All the guys would vote cos she was fit and all the women would vote cos of girl power... She wouldn't even need to bother with a manifesto or anything.

My constituency of Golders Green and Finchley was on Channel four news today (H) . Pretty proud of that, Tories and Labour are neck and neck... too bad nobody's going to vote.

So, to continue...

Is voting Lib Dems a strategic or wasted vote? At this stage, I'd reckon it's more of genuine nod of support to the orange buggers. Anyone who considers it as a strategic vote is usually an ironic Tory.

Well, in lots of cases a vote for the Lib Dems is a vote for the tories, but I think the only way we can give the Conservatives and Labour a real kick in the teeth to make them get their act together is to give our votes to the Lib Dems or a smaller party, so the big two get fewer votes and seats than ever before. I dont really agree with tactical voting, in the end you should vote for who you want in power and screw the connotations. Really, it should be based around proportional representation anyway, as it makes me sick to think that my parents votes, along with the rest of the country minus less than a million, count for absolutely nothing (I live in a safe tory seat), however, the problem with that is if a party should get in with less seats than another party. The only way I see to solve this is to redraw the constituancy boundaries to be based on the amount of people living there - one seat is around 150 thousand people - hence it could be proportional and the party with the most votes would be much more likely to have the most seats, though not definate.

**** BNP. UKIP is where its at

UKIP are just bunch of old right wing farts with lots of money. I'll give them credit for one thing, they've taken away some of the Conservative vote so they're doing something right.

Sir_Didier_Drogba that doesnt really work though, because a tactical vote for the lib dems wont matter, its all about who wins the regional constintuancy. It doesnt show a realistic overview, and you will never get enough poeple within your community to vote that way, the idea is too disperse.

I won't be voting but I wouldn't mind seeing Charles Kennedy as PM. He's the only leader of the three main parties that has impressed me.

And he wants to legalise weed :p

Not quite sure what you mean, maybe you read my post wrong or I wrote it badly? If it was done in the way outlined in my post, tactical voting would be an issue unchanged, the only thing that would be changed is that it would be possible to have proportional representation and still make it very likely that the winner would have a majority of seats. Constituancies would still be regional and probably alot fairer if they had even numbers of people.

Anyway, not long now, I'm getting excited :fool:

It says it all when the Monster Raving Loony Party perversely make the most sense out of ALL parties' manifestos that I have read!

My constituency is a swing seat. Only a 5000 Lib Dem majority, and the boundaries were changed this year to include typically Labour areas such as mine. However, seems that the Lib Dems will be holding onto this seat.

On a national level, I don't have much of an idea what will happen. Seems to me the only realistic target is to curb Labour's majority (Ach, they've no' been the worst we've ever hud) a bit and liven things up in the Commons for the next few years before we establish a party who could give Labour a bit of a run. I suppose I'll piss away a vote on the Lib Dems then. Let's face it, we all would love a ginger alky in no. 10, even if you don't publicly admit to it. (H)

Personally, if the Lib Dems became the main opposition, it'd rock. Two lefties bitching about in the commons. Woooo.

Charles Kennedy really went badly down in my estimation at 11.45am today.

why?

because his car pulled up to the polling station and parked in a disabled parking space.

Mr Kennedy got out of the car and didn't bother to tell his driver to move.

what an ignorant, thoughtless oversight by a party leader.

I reckon Labour will win the whole thing though because they are still the working class party (thus the name Labour) and the majority of England is full of working class cities, especially up north.

It's a UK election matey!

Our station was only 2 minutes walk, also there is a conservative club at the end of my road. One of my uncles (who is not conservative) got membership at the conservative club just because it had a pub inside and the drinks were cheap.
