OG- Where are the Greeks?

Seriously, where the f*ck are they? I've never seen so many empty seats in my life since Benfica's stadium in the mid 90's. :p

Greece wastes a truck load of money to raise the Olympic games, a huge organisation, thousands of volunteers helping out, hundreds of world-class athletes, everybody in the world looking at them and... the Greeks don't even bother to show up on the events. Can you understand them? :|
Are the tickets too expensive? Is the beach more attractive? Really, why bother organising this even, then?

i know... i was watching some events and theres no one there.

Only 52% of the tickets from last Sunday were sold... 48% of the seats were empty, and these are the Olympics.

I could litterally count the number of people in the stands for the women weight lifting events on my fingers :o

I seriously would have thought that tons of short, buff Asians girls would draw big crowds (H)

SCALPERS, and most greeks buy last minute. Also nobody in Greece cares about sports that were not good at, you'll see many more later.

Actually, the tickets are cheaper than the ones in Sydney four years ago. Tourism in Greece is actually down 15%, a lot if due to the high cost of hotel accodomations.

2 billion went to security for athletes and the games, it should have been a quater of that price for security.

But above all people are forgeting the true purpose of the olympics, it's for amateur atheletes (not pros like Iversen). The Olympics was a way to get people together and for peace.

Now it's all about scandles and greed.

more than 3mil tickets are sold till now. Thats more than Barcelona and Atlanta. SOme stadiums are full and some are emply. Thats all. And swinming is always sold out. 3.4 mil is the target set by the IOC which is I think the # of tickets that were sold in sydney. It's just that some stadiums will be full and some other not, while it should be more balanced. The greeks dont go watch crapy sports they dont know.

I'm not sure of this stereotype but the Greeks seem to be last-minute type people. Getting things done at the last minute... buying tickets at the last minute.

from what i can see the Greeks only seem to be interested in events that concern greek competitors. Maybe im wrong but there seems to be a distinct lack of people when its NOT greece.

TROD.

Actually i know what happens. Sponsors buy the tickets and give it for free to ppl who work on their comapny or in good customers. Cos greece now sold more tickets than barcelona and sydney. A freind of my uncle working in coca cola has 90 tickets for free from coca cola. So think how many tickets would be given by sponsors.

At home, enjoying the title of European Champions.;) Winning Euro 2004 is much more effective for the nation than hosting Athens 2004 and they are finally realising that :mrpimp:
