Yeah...I dont know when I joined this website, you can check if you want. But im one of the old Winning Eleven Masters that used to frequent this website. Ahh, the knowledge we all used to get from "The Wolf". Good times.
Anyway, I too was one of the faithful and this website used to be our "Church of WE". Winning Eleven/PES was revered by all of us as a gift from God.
These days......not so much.
FIFA is by far the better game these days much to all of our surprise.
The best Winning Eleven games were 6 and 7. After that, the series went downhill. Its cool if youre new to the series. I mean new if you found PES in the last 5 years.
My first game from Seabass I played in 1997. I stuck with the series/engine for nearly ten years. Its over now. Its not at all what it used to be. And, I dont know the PES equivalent ( i think it was PES6 for Winning Eleven 6) but I say again...the best iterations of the engine were and always will be Winning Eleven 6 and 7. The series truly sucks now a days.

To get some balance, I have played Fifa for years and enjoyed PES as well in between games. I dont think PES09 is a bad game and cant understand why some guys would convert to Fifa THIS year. Fifa is a good game, but if youve been playing PES before this year and been happy, its not gone worse than last year. Its better. I actually think I would play more PES this year if the shooting was more forgiving.

I was very disapointed in PES 09 , even tho fifa still sucks badly , but they are getting close , PES 09 is just ridicilous in some aspects , the ref gives u a red card for pushing a oponent a bit sometimes while you can get fouled quite hard and its not even a foul.
Here are the main problems that I found with PES 2009 after finishing a full Master League season:
- Goalkeepers are crap and spill almost all shots unless the shot is incredibly soft. Sometimes, even when the shot is a relatively simple one, the goalie does this acrobatic jump and spills it for the opponent to rebound.
- Shooting.. meh.
- Referees giving cards for soft fouls. Sometimes they're even red.
- Why the f*ck is that invisible barrier around the players still existent during a throw in. It's incredibly annoying and unrealistic.
- Commentary appears to be realistic at first until the commentators start saying inaccurate and wrong things that forces you to simply turn it off.
- The CPU still cheats. When you're winning against a CPU, in the last 5-10 minutes or so, the CPU switches on cheat-mode where you start losing every single header, all your players start passing inaccurately, the CPU players become faster than your fastest winger, the ball magically falls to the opponent, etc..
In general, the game still makes you jump when you score and all but you'll find most of the time frustrated due to the flaws stated above. PES 5 was the peak of the series and it seems that things will always remain this way.

i have been playing all types of football games since the first ever consoles and computers game out,,pro evo set the high standered with pro evo 1 a few years ago,and they got a bit better each time after that,but not big differences,now from pro evo 5 i thought it started to go wrong,refs blow every contact,handball,computer always seems to end up with the ball after a tackle,i thought pro evo 6 with the top patches,ie fifa commentry etc was ok but i tended to play the same style every game and got bored with the same goal shots every time,i got pro evo 2008 but i soon got bored with that, i was very unsure about getting 2009 but i have not got many ps3 titles so i thought i would try,i also heard that fifa 2009 was good so i downloaded the demo,
i would have to say in my opinion for whats it worth,that pro evo 2009 is defo the best game yet after you get the right option files,but that has always been the same with konami
i could go on about the best bits which make it a lot better but i wont go on,im sure that konami could make the ultimate football game if they wanted,as far as football games go on a pc/console,but they are clever and will always bring out slight inprovments every year so people will keep buying,i would not be surprised if the game engine for pro evo 2009 was written years ago,thats how a lot of companies work you see,**** ive bored everyone already,sorry had a smoke lol
