I've been lurking for a while and I have posted a couple of times but all I have read is ranting and raving about how this game sucks and they don't even try. Do any of you know what goes into coding a game, muchless a multi-console sports game???
Everyone wants a new one every year, and so does EA or they don't remain competitive, which means less money, and less funding for the next game. They probably have about 10-11 months to finalize the game so it can be released. With games like Madden and NHL they will get bigger budgets, because they sell tons and have been around longer (Madden 15 years/NHL 12 years)
So in 10-11 months they have to write the base code, the menu interface, do the faces, kits, ball physics, AI, controls, animations, IGM, new free kick system, new corner kick system, stadiums, leagues, stats, player specific moves, rosters, crowds, commentary(and have it follow the play of the game), console specific base code so the game will run, plus try to add more new features that people want, compile (which can take hours depending on how big the code is), playtest, debug, recode parts, compile, playtest, repeat, repeat, repeat. This all takes a lot of time even with 50 people working on the game.
If you want to see how long a simple program takes to code alone, write a program in C++ with a GUI and a button that will draw a high-res fractal.
With millions of lines of code to write, debug and get to all work together this isn't easy, trust me . *sigh*
And as for the PES/FIFA arguments each company went different ways with their base code, (licensing, gameplay, etc.) Deal with it and buy the one you like more and plaese shut up about it.
All better now....
