Greeks get Rivaldo


Greek outfit Olympiakos have announced they have completed the capture of Brazilian superstar Rivaldo.
The former Milan star has been looking for a new club since leaving Cruzeiro in February.

Celtic, Bolton and Werder Bremen had all shown an interest in the 32-year-old, but a deal ultimately failed to materialise on each occasion.

However, Olympiakos, who will be in the UEFA Champions League next term, now claim to have secured the South American schemer's services.

"Rivaldo is coming from Madrid tonight with (senior club official Giorgos) Louvaris," said a spokeswoman for Olympiakos.

A club source described the Brazilian's move as a 'done deal', while coach Dusan Bajevic hailed his capture as another major coup for Greek football following their unpredicted triumph at Euro 2004.

"Players like him are needed on Greek pitches, needed in Olympiakos as well, I think he will offer us a lot, same as in the previous years he was playing," Bajevic declared.

It has been reported that Rivaldo will be handed a €1.5 million per annum deal, although the length of his contract has yet to be stipulated.

It is pretty official, how does Rivaldo go from being in the press all the time after being almost a Bolton Wanderer then he doesn't go there and later out of nowhere he goes to Olympiakos. He's a greedy bastard, but what else is new in the footballing world.

Brazil World Cup winner Rivaldo arrived in the Greek capital after agreeing to join Olympiakos.

More than 3,000 Olympiakos fans greeted the striker who made no comment before being whisked off by Olympiakos team officials accompanied by his wife and son.

The 1999 FIFA World Player of the Year has been without a club since being released by AC Milan last November.

He had been linked with English Premiership club Bolton, Scottish champions Celtic and German champions Werder Bremen.

At Olympiakos he will be joining former FC Barcelona teammate Giovanni, also a Brazilian, who has been playing for the Greek club the last four seasons.

Although no financial terms or details of the contract were announced by Olympiakos, local press reports suggested Rivaldo would be getting up to two million euro (2.4 million dollars) for his first year with the Greeks.

Olympiakos were runners-up in last season's championship after winning seven straight titles. The team will play in this year's Champions League without having to go through qualifiers.

"A player like Rivaldo is necessary for every team, and especially Olympiakos. I believe he will offer us what he has for the other teams he has played for in the past," said Olympiakos coach Dusan Bajevic.

lately he hasn't performed as a world class player
he played the team i support, cruzeiro in the beggining of the year and he sucked....
but he's rivaldo and if he starts playing as before...watch out pao and co.

his presence is enough believe me.....he will make people pay for their mistakes...and if he passes the ball like he...can ....PAO's defense of the double will be over before it begins...

Rivaldo for greek championship is good. but for stronger championships he sucks men, if he will be a waste of money, that only time will show it...anamoni lipon
