OTB longball/wing/cross/header bug/feature - and ini-file/db changes

I suppose everybody knows what I'm talking about with the OTB wing-cross-header goal
(from near side line on own half, OTB, long ball down along the line to the wing, who seems offside, but still gets away, crosses the ball and it's headed in)

Now, have anybody tried editing any of the ini files in ini.big and/or the player attributes in fifa.db in order to make it harder to have success in this pathetic OTB-longball-wing-cross-header goal?

We are already playing with a modified fifa.db file, in which crosses and headers are generally harder to perform, so that takes a bit of this OTB-goal, however, it is still a silly longball to a nearly offside position along the sideline, and I was wondering if anything can be done to minimize this "feature" (read:bug) in the game. I can increase the pace, acceleration and rushing of the defs and lower it on the strikers, but I haven't tried it out yet, to see how much it helps and how much of everything else it disturbs.

Does anyone know of any ini.big settings to manipulate in order to for instance make the OTB longballs less precise or something like that?

Just a question, does this bug work when you play on World Class? I've only met people who have used it on Pro.

Yes, an OTB on/off switch would allow us to entirely disable OTB. However, OTB in most other situations is ok, and should be allowed.

I was looking at the ai.ini file last nite, and I thought about maybe changing the precision of the OTB longballs - if it's less precise, it's less useful for the above goal.

damn, don't we have any ai.ini file experts out there, who can tell what settings governs those bloody OTB long passes?

Here's some of those I've tried fiddling with:

MAX_USER_LOBTHROUGH_DIST = 120

MAX_USER_LOB_DIST = 200

THROUGHPASS_ASSIST_DIST_NEAR = 10
THROUGHPASS_ASSIST_DIST_MID = 60
THROUGHPASS_ASSIST_DIST_FAR = 90

SMART_AIRPASS_ASSISTED_DISTANCE_MAX = 150

SMART_PASS_ASSISTED_DISTANCE_MAX = 150

SMARTPASS_ASSIST_DIST_FAR = 150

these values are the original values, I've tried lowering them, but not really with a lot of success.

Trying to find constructive ways to get around it is not what I would call whining. It sounds to me like this is the only way you can score and you are getting nervous because people are finding ways to stop it.

let's just hear some constructive ideas from some ini-competent people. I am not forcing anyone in here to play with the ini file I end up with - so if you don't like the concept, just find another thread to share your useless thoughts. ;)

Amen to that.

these values:

BALL_AIR_RESISTANCE_XZ = 0.008037
BALL_AIR_RESISTANCE_Y = 0.010812
// changed from xz=0.007037, y=0.005812

seems to have a somewhat good effect on the long OTB wing ball - it's kind of hard to make it as long and precise with increased air resistance.

Any other inputs?

Does anyone happen to know what formation and tactics the people that exploits the OTB bug use? I assume it something specific because neither of my forwards get in to those positions while I'm playing.

If we know that I think it could be easier to find a tactic to defend against it.

it can be done with a number of formations, basically any of the 4-4-2 variations (diamond etc).

the trick is to have enough time alone with the ball on your own half, while you activate OTB and then use stick 2 to run towards the corner flag before sending the long pass down along the line. Search the forums here for tips and tricks threads, i'm sure someone else already described it in more details.
