Owen 'to axe agent'

Michael Owen is set to axe his agent and employ his father instead, according to a newspaper report.
The England international is currently represented by SFX, the team that until recently looked after David Beckham.

But Owen is primed to sever ties after SFX chief executive Jon Holmes said the player would leave Liverpool if they didn't reach the Champions League.

The Guardian newspaper says the Reds striker will not renew his SFX contract when it ends in July.


His father, Terry, will then run Owen's business affairs.

The player is due to open talks with Anfield bosses in the coming weeks, with SFX initially doing his bidding.

Owen in quit threat

Liverpool are said to be optimistic that any change in management would help their chances of holding onto him.

Manager Gerard Houllier said: "I would like to think talks over a new contract will begin at the end of the month, when Michael's representative is back in the country.

"It is my opinion, as I expressed at our annual general meeting on Monday, that Michael will stay."

Owen is right to "axe" his agent, the guy dosnt understand that Owen dosnt want to play for a team that isnt winning....hes a great player and should be on a team that will win and where he can show how good he is. The only thing is i can see him running into problems with his father being his agent, you never know when ownes gonna get sick of his dad running his life and theres never been a father son combp thats worked out....so hopefully Owen is careful with that.

Hey man if you are a real l'pool fan you will belive that owen stays
until HE says otherwise, not the papers...
Anyhow, IF he is to leave the reds, then it is his decision. And
Liverpool will live on, I am 99 % confident that Owen will sign a
new contract with us. I remember the days before Owen, we had many magnificent players before him and we will have many
more after he has left anfield wheter it is now or in 50 years...

I do want him to stay, believe me. My comment was lookign at it from Owen's perspective. I just think he will leave the club. Why is he putting off signing his contract for so long? But i do want him to stay for many years to come.
