someone said "I hope Italy learned a lesson" HAH yeah right, you'd think they'd learn a lesson lossing to korea, or to wales... but they never do.

On paper I think they have one of hte best squads in the world, if not THE best. They need to try, and forget this defensive crap.

You and people that say this sort of thing are either blind, idiots or jealous. The attackers SUCKED. There was 3 forwards and a winger out there playing the same system as the so highly regarded attack of Real Madrid. Just the same as Real Madrid played bad games, so did Italy but no one calls Real Madrid a 'defensive' team.

So, I fart in your general direction for making such crap posts.

The way Sweeden looked today, they are going to tear Italy apart. The danes ran rampant all over them today, and it was rather fun to watch. But I never count out the Italians in a tourney. Nor the Germans for that matter. Both teams always show up.

BUT, for all the whining that the Italians did at WC 2002 (and the whining was justified regarding the refs) they got very lucky today...

If that was Collina reffing the game today, Totti would be sitting for 3 games.

"Denmark should have won"
It is true that Denmark has control the midfield. However, in terms of real scoring opporunities, to be honest, the Italians has slightly more. If you don't agree, it is at least a balance match. (both teams have 12 shots) I am sure than most people don't like Italians' conservative approach, but it is in some way effective. How? they can be totally dominated by their opponents like they did today, an still turns out to be a balance match in terms of scoring opportunities. Guess what happen if Italians play well and play a balance match in terms of ball possession.

"Why did Trap sub Del Piero"
I know people love Del Piero, but I would have to say that Del Piero play as bad as Cassano. Since this substitution did not help the Italians, it was a bad substitution by Trap. However, at least the problem was not getting Del Piero out of the pitch.

"Gattuso is 100 times better than Zanetti"
Both players play poorly. I was hoping that Trap would sub in Pirlo instead to help the offense.

"Why was Camoranesi on the pitch"
I have to agree. I would rather saw Cassano even though Cassano was not good either.

Final Thoughts
Great job by the Italians defensively. Buffon, Cannavaro, Nesta are superb, Zambrotta and Panucci are solid. However, the offensive showing has to be very disappointed. The first match is never easy and there are time to improve.

youre an idiot.

It was anything BUT boring. It could have easily been 3-3 or 4-4 if it wasn't for the keepers.

Goal-less - YES. Boring - NO.

You always like to take jabs at Italian footy.... so piss off.

Anyone who watched it will agree with me that the game was an entertaining goalless draw.

I don't know what dives those were. The one he got a yellow card for was silly. He barely got pushed, and then immediately got back to his feet to try and keep playing. He never once asked for a penalty.

I think your logic is a little flawed there ... (but I´m from Denmark, so you might expect that :-D).

Sweden played extremely well last night and impressed me a lot, but their game against Italy will be very different. Sweden is playing a more defensive style than Denmark, and Italy will get a lot more possesion since the danish playstyle is not as direct as the swedish, but more on holding the ball - waiting for the chance - which they showed yesterday.

This means that Italy will have time to build up their play, and that they will get chances to move their defensive players further up on the field makirng a hard time for Sweden...

I think Italy will win this one closely 2-1 ... (besides; they can´t play this bad two matches in a row ;))

agreed. I hardly ever remember blinking once watching this game.....man did the Danes impress me very much.....Sørensen, the Jensens, Helveg, Jørgensen and Rommedahl (if this dude had 2 or 3 tricks with which to beat defenders, he'd be one of the most dangerous players in Europe...great technique, poise, crossing and an unbelievable amount of pace and acceleration)

But Gattuso was THAT bad???

NO! I'd even go as far as to say that I'd start him in the next game and bench Zanetti....sure he's prone to stupid fouls, some questionable decision making sometimes, but I feel he's what Italy really need to succeed...great technique, speed, heart and determination....he's the sort of player the opposing team always dreads facing, he hampers the attack of the opposing team with his attitude alone, man.

Fair enough. I accept your opinion. I just don't see Italy playing very well for this tourney. It seemed like the Danes were pretty direct yesterday. To be honest, if it wasn't for the keepers, the game could have gone either way. It was fun to watch.
