Pan-Pacific Championship 2008

Our coach has gone all experimental on us so I'd expect Houston to win. And I'm reasonably confident of Gamba Osaka overcoming Galaxy.

2 from 2 correct. Admittedly I didn't pay enough attention to see just how bad our squad is and how bad we'd be. We'll lose to Galaxy - just missing too many players.

Houston are twice the team the Galaxy are. Sydney never had a chance, but they're in the same sort of situation that the Galaxy were when they did their tour of Australia.

Speaking of the Galaxy, they were awful last night. The kind of awful that can't be excused with "preseason form" or "missing players." They only lost 1-0, but they were just terrible to watch.

We should have two very even games on Saturday. I would give the edge to Houston over Gamba Osaka simply because they have their full first team intact. As for the Galaxy-Sydney game, I think it will be a toss-up. A moment of magic from David Beckham may be what separates the two teams.

This should be very interesting to watch.

My local club who plays Sydney in the A-League, Melbourne Victory, has to play Gamba Osaka in the Asian Champions League, so I'd like to see how well they play.

Galaxy full team?

Didn't manage to catch the game - did LA put out a full team?

I know they were planning to put a full strength team together, if they did it doesn't exactly bode well for the forcoming MLS season

No, it was mostly scrubs out there. No Donovan, Ruiz, Xavier, Babayaro, Martino, Harmse, Jazic.

LA Galaxy 2-1 Sydney FC, FT

Gals did better in this game, though it wasn't sexy football by any stretch of the imagination. That was quite an equalizer by Sydney FC, but they had a bit of bad luck conceding a goal almost immediately afterwards and just before the half. Took away their momentum.

Brandon McDonald looked rough vs. Gamba Osaka, but was quite impressive in this game. His touch could be better, but he's a great destroyer in midfield... fast, reads the game well, ridiculously strong. Not bad for a 4th-round draft pick, could see some time in MLS this season.

What was the premise of this tournament? Teams that are on the pacific coast or near enough (since Houston are in) just play two games in Hawaii?

The Legend
It's suppose to be a UEFA Cup type thing? Gamba (Nabisco Cup Winners, that's Japan's League Cup), Sydney (Prelim. Final losers) and Houston (MLS Cup Winners) all earned their spots. As usual, LA got one on a silver platter.
