I think this may warrant a sticky if enough people have the same problem...

>>Today i finally bought fifa04 pc version. I install fifa, and when it was finished, i didnt run. I should insere the right cd-rom. I have the orignal cd!? What can i do??? Call ea? Or what?

I actually had the same thing happen to me, trying to install from 2 seperate cdrom drives. Basically the cdrom isn't recognizing the cd2's copy protection and therefore failing returning the "please insert correct cd and restart" error.

Yes you can use a no-cd patch but that will negate you from being able to properly patch and play your hard earned retail game online.

What I found out was that a different computer installed the game correctly, so I have come to the conclusion that fifa's 2nd cd might be quite picky on what cdrom drives it will work with. Worst case (as in my case) you will have to replace your drives with one that does work with 04.

Unfortunately for you I think all you can do is exchange your cds and pray a different set will work, but if my theory is correct it may just be your cdrom drive that is either out of date (firmware upgrade maybe?) or maybe needing a cleaning (worth a try).

Anybody else with this error please reply here, becuase at first I thought I was just a random case of bad luck but apparently I'm not the only one that ran into this problem so far.

Best of luck to all!

Forca, it may seem that way, but trust me this has happened to me also with the retail version, so I must sympathize and assume its really happened with this chap also, and hopefully not too many others with retail.

I personally had no antivirus even installed yet alone running during my mishap :/

I will report if changing out the CDROM drive works tonight at home after I swap it with one that I know has worked with the retail here at work though.

If it does work it'll defintely be a strong hint that yeah it was only the CDROM, if it still doesn't work then something else is majorly screwing up.

When using a NOCD-patch, rename the original executable fifa2004.bak i.s.o. .exe, copy the patched exe to the gamedir and when it's time to patch to a new version of Fifa, temporarily use the original (rename .bak to .exe) duh. Be sure to have a new NOCDpatch for new version (1.1 prob.) might come in handy :)
I recommend not patching v1.0 to v1.1, cause the damn patch as you may now is (godblessme) ****ed up...

Using NoCD patches is btw. not illegal as long as you own a retailcopy. I've been using them for ages, I hate swapping CD's :) getting all sweaty under my desk (oew, sounds nasty)...

well update on my situation, i swapped my home cdrom drive with the one from work that installed/loaded up the retail just fine.. and it still doesn't work :/ I then made sure i was up to date regarding bios, all firmware and drivers, still no love.

My only solution at this point is to either reformat or swap out the motherboard.

Before reaching that fork i'm gonna try bringing my home game install hd into work and verifying if the game loads up with my work box (which worked fine beforehand). That will help me isolate the problem as truly a windows xp flub or an ide and/or motherboard problem.

I'm scratching my head at this point because the game itself installs flawlessly since it's just the auto run at install completion and subsequent loads that justs bring up the failed copyprotection error. All my other new retail games (call of duty to be exact) loads fine.

I've already ruled out bad cds (worked fine at work), i've ruled out bad CDROM drives, (swapped working drive at work and it still doesn't work at home).

Anyway sorry for the lengthy post, just trying to give as much information to those that DO have this problem in their troubleshooting.

Home PC: Athlon XP1800+/ASUS KTV266A/512DDR/WINXP PRO
-Game loads/works fine with no cd exe
-Game does not load with cd2 inserted

Work PC: Athlon XP1800+/SOYO Dragon platinum+/512DDR/WINXP PRO
-Game loads/works fine with cd2 inserted

two possible reasons

1/ your CD's are corrupted
2/ you have an illegal warez copy

if 1/ then contact EA Sports tech support
if 2/ then go to a shop and buy the game

Why does everyone assume or mention warez versions. Is the problem that big with people having warez versions. Aren't we all innocent until proven guilty. To me, that is an insult on every gamer in the world to be accused of such treachery. I have not seen the word warez used so much on any other forum. Why can't we all assume people have the regular game and are having trouble because their PC is not configured right or the person lacks the technical computing knowledge to figure it out themselves. There are people out there who think the CD-ROM tray is a place to put your coffee. XP-Chael, I think you have the technicals skills to know that illegal copies do not always work perfectly, but I would never suggest you having illegal copies. As far as solving your problem, I had a similar game with the same problem and by waiting a minute to switch the cds during installation, and un-installing and re-installing the game worked for me, but good luck to all who have this problem.

i have the legal version. If it was a warez version i would not care, but i payed € 50 and than i expect a working version. It is :f***: up.

If your CDs are originals, then contact EA Sports tech support or return the CDs to the shop and require money back or CDs replacement. These forums are not the right place to help you.

Nate thanks for the vote of confidence..

for all those that think this is a "Warez" issue let me educate you on the real problem of retail games not passing copy protection:

http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...port/kb/articles/q228/9/85.asp&NoWebContent=1

This is exactly what the thread starter, myself and at least 1-2 others are experiencing with the retail copy of FIFA 2004.

This is NOT a bad cd issue, if you would have read through my troubleshooting you will have seen that I HAVE gotten my retail copy to perform flawlessly at work, just not here at home.

Still in midst of troubleshooting and will report anything positive I find, in aid for myself and the unfortunate few others that are plaqued with this very annoying but serious problem.

And for those still thinking I have warez, i've attached a picture of my retail copy ;)

Maybe some cd-rom emulating software, I know some new games detect this kind of software and refuse to run unless removed.

Or it is a bug and all copies of FIFA 2004 have to be returned, but I cannot imagine that happening...

Answer to INSERT CORECT CD problem

If you use a Virtual DVD/Cd player, like you can use such as Alcohol 120%, go to device manager and shut it down. Some games from EA (like battlefield and now this Fifa 2004) can not work with it. I got the same problem, because I also got that problem with Battlfield 1942, I known the answer.

Hope that this fixed the problem to all guys who have this problem. :read:
