They won't go next gen, until next gen hardware for PC has become the standard in new bought mid-class PC's. It's called marketing, mathematics and economics.
EA wants to sell copies of their game, guess what portion of the market the next gen capable pc's represent atm? Not even 5%. They are not a charity company, they will sell their copies to the 80% that can run the game, and they would be dumb to do otherwise.
Yeah I know, that's only 85% total, the remaining 15% still runs on Pentium 2's and still plays Sensible Soccer 2 so they're not part of the EA target audience either. Don't laugh, it's the truth, not everyone lives in a rich country. (and those running Sensible Soccer are the rich in a poor country)
Now for the 5% with NASA computers I suggest they program their own football game. That couldn't be hard to do as the archetype owners of such systems are rich nerds with too much time on their hands anyway, they might actualy learn something in the progress instead of chatting about l33t stuff while eating pizzas and drinking gallons of non diet coke.
