PES 3(PC) Better than 4 ?? Or is it just me !!

But whats the deal with the quality of the kits ?? The ref kits look like they have been imported across from a commodore 64 !! The kits (incl. refs) on PES 3 are very crisp and sharp , the back of the PES 4 kits look like they have been sprayed on with an aerosol can !! Its nothing to do with kit makers (of which i am one) but it stands out like a sore thumb (something to do with mipmap i think). Add a couple of the new animations to PES 3 , an on screen ref , online play , a couple of minor tweaks to the gameplay , better editing options , and that should have been your PES 4 !!

I never said I want all of my players to press the guy with the ball no matter where he is.

But when a guy has the ball on the wing, isolated, trying to find the available pass, players who stand a few feet away from him should try and press him. They shouldn't stare at him like he fell from the moon.

Also, when a certain player is running with the ball towards you and has no immediate passing option, he should be double teamed. Again - my players, as close to him as they may be, stare at him.

It's the same crap when there's a loose ball...

For god's sake.. They're standing right next to it, but if they're not under your control at that moment, they just don't care. They don't go for the ball.

It should be in a such a way that they pounce on it when they're near it, and upon catching it, the guy with ball is the guy you control from that moment.

And I don't care which kind of cross I'm using. High, medium, low.. Wheh I've been using the same cross for over 50 games, trying about 7-8 crosses per game, and still haven't managed to score from one, then something is wrong here.

It looks better to me. And the animations are sometime eerily real. I can make C. Ronaldo play almost like the real thing. The way Raul runs looks real too. I guess maybe it's a matter of opinion.

weird...
I noticed that probably the easiest way of scoring in PES4 is a low cross  I mean 3xO or better this with triangle or X, I even thought it's a bug coz it's too easy
I don't know what to say, seems that everyone on this forum has extremaly different style of playing, that's good...
I personally have probs with scoring from high lobs (L1+[]) and use to score them rarely with only good players, it's often goes way too high, surely now you'll tell me that lobs are easiest part of game for you ;)

PS. I don't tell about soft lobs which are easy indeed (those with R1 or 2x[])
PPS. damn, 50 crosses and no goal? you really must do smth incorrect, try just tap triangle (through pass) when your on wing on penalty level, works often for me but higher crosses work too, seems I would have to make some compilation of my headers and crosses goals
PS3. freekicks are screwed indeed, I only scored twice after 200 games (but didn't have 200 indirect free kicks of course)
PS4. I can't score volleys if that makes you happier :P

I use moves and passes I didn't use before. I cross the ball better from corners. It's forced me to get better, and at no point have I felt cheated.

This game is only a fraction away from perfection, yet people still blame their own inabilties as flaws in the code.

(Y) Spot on. I'm happy with PES4's gameplay,I find it very refreshing, PES3's gameplay got very tedious and boring to me, I worked out the computer AI and the PES3's gameplay hadn't really changed much since PES1, so I was happy that Konami revamped the gameplay for PES4. I am very happy that Konami have atlast allowed players to curl the ball when crossing the ball and shooting, that has been something that has irritated me in previous PES soccer games, where every kick was just a straight arrow.

PES3 better than PES4?, no way, as you said Nuno79 it's THEIR own inibilities which is the problem. Just because some people find something difficult in the game they blame it on a flawed code. The only point I can fully agree with is the goalkeeper, they are pathetic in PES4.

I score headers frequently (admittedly double tapping the cross button) and I don't even notice the AI "cheating" in certain situations because I can usually win the match anyway. The new Master League is awesome, frankly the old style ML in previous PES games was getting tiresome, I love the idea of the growth system and scouting for new players for your ageing team, then training them during off-season, amazing.

Simple fact is, the game does have many flaws, but so did PES3, but overall this game is a massive improvement over PES3.

Lobs? Only managed to score once from a lob. About 2 games ago.

I'm trying the double tap cross thing, but still no goal. Hell... right now I'd easily settle for a missed header. The defence just clear EVERYTHING.

Are you playing with a PC or PS2?

obviously kit compresion has been used to improve performance on the PS2, and as the PC game is a direct port to all intents the same happens there. Use kitserver and the kits look crisp all over, however the refs use half size kit bmps and so look a bit poo TBH
The back looks poor in PES3 too as it is half the width of the front, narrow piping looks crap in both versions.

So once again we are a clone of an ageing console version and are still waiting for an identity that is a true PC version !!! This is probably the case for the inferior controller response when compared to that of the PS2 also . PS , I have also spotted that kitserver kits are slightly crisper on the eye Jim !!(Wolf has now abandoned kitserver in his latest patch in favour of directly overwriting the afs now that the decryption has been cracked)

For me, L1 lobs were problem in the beginning. You just need to know how to do it properly and you must have a good player (doesn't have to be a superstar). The key thing that I've noticed is that L1 lobs work FAR BETTER if performed outside of the 16m box or on the edge. If you do it in the box then you must have better player (superstar) to score frequently.

So, outside of the 16m box use L1+[], and inside 16m box just use []+R1. And one more thing for high lobs - the best way not to miss them (at least for me) is that you hold L1 and then just TAP [] as short as possible (especially when the player is not so good). Hope this helps ;)

You're right about that one. In the PC version, it sometimes takes almost a second, sometimes more, from the moment I press the short pass or kick button, to the moment the pass, or kick, actually leaves the player's foot.

When you love playing one touch football, a second is forever. A lot of attacks that I try to create are ruined because of slow response time.

Though I did manage to score some beautifully planned goals using 4-5 one touch passes in the same attack, these happen way too rarely for my liking. (Or anyone's, for that matter.)

Dont get me wrong , im not slating the game but in comparison with PES 3 there were SOME gameplay aspects that did not need to be addressed . Lets hope PES5 will be written separately from the console versions and they start from scratch on on version which uses the PC`s vastly superior gameplay engine!!! Case in point , why should we have to suffer from inferior kits just because compression is now used to enhance the PS2`s performance . 1 year ago you could have forgiven Konami as it was their 1st attempt at a conversion , but now PES is an established title on the PC.

weird stuff Golden boy, do you always build up very slowly ? I usually get lowcross header goals when I'm on a break and there are like 2 of my attackers and 3-4 defenders in the box, and not the whole lot. otherwise I really don't understand why u can't get your headers in :o

Weird? Try scary. I just played 3 games with Bayern Munich against Saudi Arabia, and didn't score once. 3 games and no goal.

I've tried everything. I tried double and triple tapping it from the wing, dozens of times. Over and over and over.

As I said - I wish I could just get my player to head the ball, and it doesn't even have to be on target. I don't care. I just wanna make contact.

But their defence is made of supermen, who manage to clear whatever I throw at them. No matter the angle, no matter the power. I can't seem to make my player's head to meet the ball. Ever.

And it's not like I'm new to PES. I used to beat the crap out of level 5 in PES 3. I scored a lot of great goals.

But this.. this is unbelievable. I've never seen a CPU defence play so well. In the box, they defend flawlessly.

I'm really starting to give up. I don't know what to do anymore.

P.S - It's worth noting that I'm playing with the PC. I guess it's a lot easier and a way more rewarding experience with the Playstation.

I get headed goals all the time. Not as often as in PES3, but I still get them. I got like 5 or 6 yesterday. It's not impossible at all.

Ooh boy, thanks for sharing. I'm always open to worthy advices like this one. Really tells much.
Ok, I'm scoring a lot of header too, but why do I have to shout about it everywhere, especially if the man asks only for tips. Hold your pes-ego down a bit - Nuno. How many time you're going to answer with posts like: ''you have to practice more'' or ''oh, I score 10 goals every match and keep a clean sheet ''.

Because people keep blaming the game for there own inabilities. They expect everything to be handed to them on a silver platter. The only way to get better at this game is with practice. I have no idea what he's pressing to F'up his crosses, but I'm letting him know that it is possible to score from headers.

Practice is the answer whether you like it or not.
