PES 3 - Thoughts, suggestions, expectations

Besides hoping that Konami will release a version for the PC, here are my PES 3 suggetions. I think they are all very appropriate:

Well, I would like to see more dribbling moves. That would be great. There are many new tricks that can be added, and that would surely improve authenticity.

Keepers must be carded like any other field players, and more prone to going for a ball and droping the player thus causing a penalty. That's important too.

The DPS (Dribbling shooting passing) models shpuld be easy to master, and the difficulty level raised even more. Give us a good challenge.

AI should be done in a way that teams play like in real life. Man Utd, for example, should play a lot of wing attacks. Ajax should play short clever passes, Juventus should play a solid game, finely balanced between attack and defence. Match the styles of the teams in real life to that of the CPU.

Individual players should also play like in real life. Beckham should be a quick passer-thinker, and always looking to send a good long ball of a wonderful insightful cross. Alessandro Del Piero should play in a very imaginative style, combining Clever passes, rainbow shots and wonderful skill moves. And so on...

Signature scoring celebration ways for star player would be nice. A better looking audience with more songs could add a lot to the atmosphere.

Easy-to-control 1-2 passing method is a must.

Improved off the ball movement is also important. When players who are not in your control at a specific time spot a good place to run they should start running and signle with their hands or shout something, like in real life.

More flexibility in formations and tactics is important, as well as individual orders for players. (support more defence or support more offence, marking, tell a defender to go into the box to score from set plays, etc)

Good foot - Rivaldo, for example, should not be able to shoot well with his right foot, whether you're controlling him or the CPU is.

Assigned captain is important.

More injuries to players, mainly in very cold weather when it's easy to get injured.

Referees should know that fouls aren't just mistimed sliding tackles, but also small things sometimes. Excessive shirt pulling, for example. Use real games to see what I mean.

Getting past the keeper in 1-on-1 situations should be there. Keepers are usually in the forward's mercy in real life, so why not here? Chipping the ball over a keeper should also be a part of the shooting system.

A more interactive transfer system would be nice. If a player is discontent with too few playing minutes in his club, then he would be more willing to transfer.

When the next game is released, rosters must be well updated, unlike what happened in PES 2, as Ronaldo was still an Inter player.

Adding Euro or Copa America to the tournaments if possible.

Career mode - Seasons go by and players age, new players pop up, etc.

Feel free to add your own and say what you think of the upcoming release.

By the way, what is the suggested date of release?

I agree.

A lot of what you said would be nice but not vital. I don't think Konami (unlike EA Sports with it's laughable non-headering ability in FIFA 2003) have any major flaws to iron out. If they don't improve the gameplay for the next five years it will still be the best game around.

I've read a few official statements from Konami saying they were going to review their contract with Sony and are looking at the possibility of PES3 being "multi-platform". I think Konami have been pretty surprised at the success of the PES series and realise that whatever Sony are paying them for the game to be exclusive isn't more than they would potentially make from releasing the games across all formats.

I'd definitely like to see Konami pay to get the FIFA Pro license so we can have real teams and players. Other than that, more leagues would be cool.

Would definitely love to see the game this Fall/Winter which seems to be when the games web sites have been throwing dates around for but I have a feeling that depending how well ISS3 does across the various formats it will have a big effect on when and in what formats PES3 will be released in.

I disagree, I think that KCET still have a lot of sorting out to do to create a credible AI opposition. The current system is pretty dreadful at times.

I think the thing that concerns me least of all is KCET buying an official license. That's the biggest red-herring of all.

Convert the game to PC so that it becomes truly customisable and easily patched.

Clarification

Since I'm not a big expert, please clarify this:

How many feints and dummies are there in pes 2? How many exactly? Can you describe them to me exactly?

Also - Are there different combinations with the joypad for each feint? Say a certain combination does a Ronaldo style step over and another combination does the zidane style 360 turn?

Is that how it works?

I'm asking this because in FIFA 2003 you have this stupid "freestyle" button that pretty decides what dribble you should make and you can't really control that. It's a nightmare.

Also, are there players which aren't capable of doing a certain feint? Do only star players do moves or can every player do it?

Please answer ALL the questions if you can. It's very important. Thank you.

Re: PES 3 - Thoughts, suggestions, expectations

um, well i am playing we6:fe and the keepers get carded.. i played a friend who's keeper was red carded tonight.

also, signature celebrations exist for a ton of players...

with the solidus crowd/chant patch, the atmosphere is fantastic

1-2 passing is pretty easy with L1+X, T

as far as formations and tactics there are a bunch of new additions in WE6:FE

good foot definately plays..

also, you will get fouled often from just pushing against an opponent or nudging him too much

getting past the keeper in 1 on 1 IS there AS IS chipping the ball double tap-X or L1-X

we6:fe also supports online roster updates. i havent played PES2 in awhile.. but i dont remember it missing all of these elements. oh well glad i have we6:FE :rockman:

- More teams(obviously)

- Make it harder to get into those shooting positions on the edge of the box i.e. COM teams should defend higher lines rather than crowding the penalty area.

- Get rid of those stupid ball trails when shooting - that's not football

- More realistic attributes for top players and classic players.

- 1-2's are generally ok, but the first-time through ball on the one-two is very underhit in my opinion and the pace on it should be improved.

- Low crosses into the box(achieved by double-tapping O) should be hit harder, sort of like in PES1 but with slightly less power than that

- GAME SPEED SLIDER!!!!!!!! Aaaargh! How many times do we have to ask for this? This would solve many of our problems with PES.

- Player movement after being tackled should be less scripted. We should be able to turn the player around much quicker and attempt to win the ball back

- Handball rule - I know this one's tricky to implement and done wrong, could seriously affect gameplay. Konami should only do it if they can maintain their already high standards.

- Ability to transfer-list and loan-list players in ML.

- More pronounced curl on the ball on free-kicks and corners(around about the level of ISSPE2 would be good) and also the ability to curl passes more easily.

Computer AI needs tweaking. Through balls, running into space, etc.

More fairness in refereeing between com players and controlled players. Had a match yesterday where I was being hacked to bits at every opportunity by the com team and not even fouls were being given. Was getting p-ed off so, as you do, I decided to have a go at them, if the ref was that lenient maybe I could snap their star player in two? First tackle he carded me, it wasn't even the nasty Keane on Haaland style that I was hoping to do, it was a nudge in the back! Was pretty miffed at the lack of fairness in this.

Not bothered about dribbling tricks, I have visions of it turning into FIFA with too many of these.

Dive. I want to tell my player to dive if I think I can get a penalty and risk being booked. :)

I want the fixtures to be placed on a calender. Season should be over a realistic time period. Weather effects should be accurate for time of year and location of the match. Winter in Kiev would freeze, more likely to have snow. It would be milder in Brazil.

I agree with everything you said except the dribbling part. I don't know if you've noticed, but faking an opponent in fifa 2003 is not a joyful experience to say the least.

You have one button and that's it. Most of the time pressing does this move which I don't think is deserving of the word "feint". He just stops and then runs again.

You hardly have any control or choice in this game in 1 on 1 positions. It makes improvising a nightmare, and as we know, improvising is a huge part of this sport.

Besides, skilful players come up with new tricks all the time. If they can do it, why can't I do it in a video game?

Football is pretty "dry" without the ability to get past a defender. Not only is it tons of fun, it also opens up space, like in real life football. Isn't real life football what wer'e aiming for here?

I think this might actually be a good idea. I'm warming to it but I think that there would be a fine line between the realistic dribbles that some players could do, such as Giggs, and the FIFA version where everyone can twist and fake their way from their own goal line and score with Jaap Stam. If anyone can do it properly though, I trust Konami can.

Having said that, I'm probably one of the few that quite likes the simple dribbling that is currently in PES. As long as you change the pace and direction of your run you can do well, isn't that what dribbling is all about? There are some 'tricks', but I find that b.f feint hard to do when you're charging towards the goal, probably because I'm timing it wrong. :)

On the other hand, why make these moves as easy as a single button press. It is a skill in real football so maybe it should be a skill in PES too.

So I'd say 'maybe make some tricks easier, but add it as a special ability to the players. But, most importantly, if it's going to make the game easier, please, leave it out. :)

I still need to be convinced though. :)

You're right

I share your concern.

I would hate to see a game where Rio Ferdinand can take the ball from his penalty area and score a Maradona style goal at will, and that's not what I'm talking about.

But since there are tons of midfielders and forwards in europe and south america who know very well how to use an eye catching fake when they need it, I think it's important that we'll able to experience the same.

With that said, I think every player should be a able to do them, but not every player should be able to succeed.

The higher rating a player has in his "close control" rating and agility, the more likely he is to pull it off, and then, that should also depend on how he is being pressed or marked. What is his speed while attempting the move, and how close his body is to the ball while doing it.

All of these are realistic factors which determain the propability of it working.

If I attempt it in an ideal situation, why shouldn't it work, even if it's a not-so-easy trick?

Dribbling is a part of football almost as much as crosses and shots are.

The game should always put emphasis on teamwork first, but there's no reason to prevent the player from the occasional "solo goal of the month", right?
