PES 5 is fine, except...

It's a good game. A damn good game. It has almost everything you'd want in a soccer simulation, but there are a few things that prevent it from being ideal:

1) The CPU seems way too good at spotting through ball passing options. It has the uncanny ability to be able, time after time, to insert a player into a danger zone, even if the passing player has no way of seing that opening.

And it doesn't matter who's the passer. It could be Del Piero or, just as easily, be some second division reserve.

What's the deal with that?

2) Too many fouls are being given. The game struggles to remain fluent for more than a few seconds without somebody pushing somebody, and the referee seems way too whistle happy.

You sometimes also see a striker chasing my defender all the way to midcourt just to foul him, something that simply doesn't happen in real life.

On the other hand, you sometimes have fould that must be awarded, and the ref seems to ignore them, leaving you frustrated after building a promising move, or trying to run to a fastbreak.

3) On the PC, the buttons react a bit too slow. I often find my self angry about attempting a 1-2, but the CPU takes more than half a second to realize that's what I want, and in that time, the opposition takes the ball. I wish button response time would be faster.

These are pretty much the main bugs. Other than that, excluding a few minor things, the game seems to be the best Konami have developed so far.

I also find a lot of errors or bad things about the game, even that it is still a reasonabely good game. But honestly, I found it better last year..._

THE ERRORS:

1) the difficUlty levels are stupid. Level two is far too easy and I win every game with 4-5-6- goals. But on the other hand, I can´t just play on three stars, because strangely enough it seems to me that playing at three stars this year is FAR more difficult than playing on five or six stars the last year! - Last year I almost won the Serie A and the Master League on six stars, but this year i struggle a lot even on three stars.

This is stupid, because this means than an average player like me don´t have an appropriate level to play on, because two stars is too easy and three stars is too difficult: playing with Juventus, I easily won the Serie A on two stars, but on three stars I only became 12th....IT IS NOT FAIR THAT THERE HAS TO BE SUCH A HUGE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TWO AND THREE STARS.

2) Another ridiuculous thing, is that playing against "weak" teams like Livorno, Reggina or Messina is HARDER than plaing against "great" teams like Juventus, Milan og Inter....simply because the weak teams play extremely defensively and do not conceed ANY SPACE....but when I play against Inter, for example, I find it easier, because they just attack stupidly with all their players and conceed a lot of space for the counter attack. But it is not fair that it should be harder to beat Reggina or Cagliari than Milan og Inter...(this season I have beaten Inter, Roma, Lazio and Milan and lost against Messina, Cagliari and Livorno...)

3) The referees are HOPELESS: they give penalties for NOTHING....and you only have to LOOK at your opponents before the ref gives a free kick...FOOTBALL IS A CONTACK SPORT, it is not like basketball, where you can´t touch the opponents. But Konami apparently have a different point of view... :nape:

4) The sound is a SCANDAL: when I play with Juventus, for example, I don´t hear ONE SINGLE original Juve-chant. It seems like I am playing in a japonese stadium...no atmosphere at all..just a lot of shouting and shreeming or whistleing, but no original songs og chants. From this point of view, Fifa 06 is a lot better, because they do at least have 3-4 original songs for each team!

5) The opponents AI is TOO HIGH: this makes the game unrealistic, because on three or four stars they hardly ever commit any errors at all, even if I play against Messina, Siena or Ascoli... :kader: :Their marking is perfect, they don´t miss anything....they almost seem like Aliens...they can predict every pass and every movement you do, and even if I try one of the smartest driblings, I only get past the defender one time out of five....

6) Sometimes the goalkeeper don´t react when I want him to throw out the ball, but just stand stupidly without doing anything....this error was also present last year, and the year before...so don´t Konami ever learn from their mistakes?

7) It is stupid that the opponents score a lot of goals from free kick, when for me it is impossible to score from them. I have been practising a lot, but have not scored one single goal from free kick (the free kick system in Fifa is a lot better....there at least you can place the ball where you wan´t!)...but the computer scores almost one time out of ten.....not fair!

8) I am disappointed that there are only a very few new teams this season. Why can Fifa or TIF have hundreds of teams, when PROEVO can only have 100-150 teams?

9) In real life it only takes about 80-85 points to win the Italian League. So why is it then, that in PROEVO I need to make at least 95 points to win the title? This is unrealistic and stupid....

10) As said before the opponents AI is unrealisticly high: they hardly ever miss an off-side-move....so every game I tend to run off-side at least ten times.... :nape:

I admit that I have not even tried to play on 4 stars yet, because I struggle so hard on 3 stars...but maybe I should, because I remember that last year, for instance, 6 stars was almost easier than 4 stars, because the opponents played so offensively that it was relatively easy to score on counter-attack, while on 3 or 4 stars they just stood with 10 men in front of their own goal, so it was harder to find any openings. This year, on three stars, I find it dammed hard to get through the opponents defense, even if I play against teams like Cagliari or Messina....

i totally agree with you on this. I created a thread called crazy through balls last time, although nobody answered it. But it's true, the CPU is able to do some amazing passes, and your defenders always manage to not intercept them.

Forget both 3 and 4 stars, 5 stars is the only way it's even remotely interesting. They score more cheaters on that but you actually have some space to attack and you'll definitely score more yourself. Playing PES 5 on 3* is the most frustrating experience you could ever get.

6 stars is an option too, but the amount of CPU cheats applied on that is simply unbearable for me. Zidane in possession flying past Rooney or Giggs is not what I would call a realistic interpretation of football.

I'm annoyed at the referee not paying advantage whenever I have a through ball and a certain shot on goal, only to have the opposition defender tackle me after I've passed it, forcing a free kick, and no advantage

This is called Quality over Quantity.
Im not trying to be an arse, but how can you not see this? In FIFA and TIF/WTS notice how all players run the same, dribble the same, shoot the same, pass the same, look the same, etc. There is no individuality whatsoever in those games. :jap:

The individuality is somewhat lost in PES 5 as well. Especially in CPU controlled teams. Plus the form arrows have too much of an effect on player ability, so it seems that whoever has the red arrow is able to score a screamer from 50 yards when the game decides so. The arrows shouldn't be so much of a factor or if they are, they shouldn't change so often and so randomly. I had a 5 game winning streak, all of my players on yellow or red arrows, I played a game against Fulham, won it 2-1, then suddenly all of my important players had blue or grey arrows for the next game which happened to be a City derby. Lost that one with a fishy FK goal. My point is, if the arrows have that much of an effect they should only turn to blue or grey if the player is having a very bad run and same for the opposite. Danny Mills can't just suddenly start outpacing Rooney, Giggs or Ronaldo for no apparent reason. It takes away from the feeling that the players are individual. Solskjaer on high form performs exactly the same as Van Nistelrooy on normal form and I can't see any specific differences between the two. In real life there are almost no similarities in the playing style of those two players.
