Finally I got my hands on PES 2007 as well and after all those hours I spend on PES 6 I noticed at least one change between those games. The CPU strikers are much better! They actually try to shoot from distance now and then and their shots seem to be more powerful and better aimed compared to PES 6.

It's not and you are wrong! PES6 is always for Europe market only. WE10 is for Japan. WEPES2007 is for North America.
As for the old tradition:
PES is for Europe
WE is for Japan and America, though the games are different. WE for NA is more resemblem with PES.
