Pes2 Ai

I've been playing to the PES series for a few years, and i have to say that the AI of PS2's PES is s**t, especially the AI of your teammates. What are they doing ? The defencers runs in the wrong way, never tries to intercept the ball, man-marking is inexistant, i always find my sidebacks at the center. When I intercept the ball, i often see my teammate run in me and then see the other team take the ball and score.
In attack lot's of problem too. My strikers never do "offs the ball" (i don't know if we say like that), they just watch my offensive midfielder running towards the opposing goalkeeper. My strikers can also misses goals (even the easiest ones) by shooting next to the goal (even if it's humanly impossible) or by shooting on the goalkeeper (even if i say to shoot next to him).
And, another thing that makes me mad! When the holder of the ball changes in the other team, my teammates just stops running and don't move. They just watch the attacker running towards my goalkepper.
The AI was better on the PS1's PES, they intercepted the ball ALONE. They had good reflexes. In PES2, it's 11 players VS 1 player (me, i don't count my 10 other teammates because they are no use, they don't do anything to help me). How can you play with these guy. I was asking myself if the game developpers just tried to add any intelligence possible, even a primitive one.
How can you guys continue playing this game without throwing you're paddle against the wall or hitting your head against the screen?

You probably just need to get used to it. It's pretty different to PES1. That's why I didn't like the AI at first. It'll grow on you, man.

There are definitely some problems with the AI but I'm not sure it's much worse than any previous PES games. I feel that these problems have always been there, they just change a bit from version to version.

I really dislike the one you mention where when the CPU team passes the ball to another player, your guy stops for a second giving the CPU a big, unfair advantage- this interferes with the natural flow of the game and gives it a stop-start feel and makes me feel like I'm being cheated.

Another one I really hate is when one of your guys (not the one your controlling) suddenly moves 5 yards in the wrong direction, eg. the CPU team is breaking down the wing; you move your sideback to defend but the CPU guys gets his cross in. Out of the corner of my eye, I see that my CB, who was marking an attacker, suddenly moves 5 yards backwards away from goal (like a large invisible hand just picks him up and quickly moves him 5 yards without his legs moving) leaving the attacker with acres of space right in front of goal  . I don't mind conceding goals but that is just ridiculous.

I also dislike the way the ball sometimes just slowly rolls past your guy but you cannot move him to get the ball. Or when you can't switch control to the guy closest to the ball, it just keeps switching between 2 guys much further away.

Or when I am controlling a sideback and move to the wing to defend, quite often my CB will decide to follow, leaving the central area of the box wide open. If I move my SB back towards the central area of the box, my CB does the same - it's like he's marking me, not the opposition.

Or when the CPU team is losing 1-0 with 15 minutes to go and suddenly all hell breaks loose - the CPU team suddenly start chasing the ball in packs of 2 or 3 all over the pitch, and all the CPU guys suddenly seem to have speed, acceleration and response stats of 99 and your guys suddenly have stats of about 10 - it's rather obvious that a bit of code kicks in which simply applies a blanket alteration to the player stats to create a false panic.

Having said all that, like many people, I actually find PES2 disappointingly easy. On level 5, I win about 70% of the time (much more than I did on ISS PE2, PES or WE6).

Personally, I'd like KCET to start thinking about a new ways of creating CPU teams which are genuinely difficult to play against without the need to make it hard by simply interfering with your play by including those annoying glitches and cheats. They've flogged this engine to death...how about something fresh?

Oh, yes, i forgot the one where the ball rolls just next one of you're guy and he doesn't move to get it just because he isn't selected...pfff, pathetic.
I've been playing PES2 since KCET start selling it, and i've just played PES1 (Playstation1) and you're teammates really helps you. They intercept the ball alone. The defense still does small errors that can be repaired. But compared to PES2 (PS2) it's really nothing.
PES1 was really better.

Roskov, just go back to PES1, like us real PES fans have. It'll seem depressing at first, but once you've washed PES2 out of your head, you'll start enjoying the only true PES again.

If you're a fan of football simulation, PES2 won't grow on you.

100% agree with u mate

Hi Roskov,

Youre totally right, Ive actually gone back to PES (Thats even after over a month of stat eding to try and improve PES2) because i feel it is a tougher and more realsitic game and much more challenging.

I completely agre with Arthur it is much more easy and the general intelligence level of the AI on your team and the opposition is awful not helped by the unrealsitic "super" 180 degree turn and the complte lack of any midfield action, its just end to end attacking.

You should check out the Evo Web forum mate as theres quite a similar feeling amongst many contributors.

I just hope they go back to what made PES such a good game for PES3 and not continue with this arcadey approach.

cheers

Bob

ive got we6 and lately the AI, of my team AND the other team has been ****ting me.
i was playing a game on 2 star last nite, cos im gona try to start using RAS passing( i normally play 4 or 5 star), and my fellow team mates seemed WAAAAAAY more co-operative than usual, in offense but as arthur was saying particularly in defence.

lately on 5 star i have spent as much time overcoming the negative efforts of MY OWN TEAMMATES as i have those of the other team..

e.g. when i am using one defender, and i am leaning on an attacker, and the player i am using has slowed down gets a few steps behind and i know isnt gona get the ball( u kno the situation, the tackle has essentially failed), so i switch to a defender that is goalside and will be able to get the ball, THEN all of a sudden the previous defender gets all his speed back, and starts barging into the back of the attacker!

so instead of using the second defender and blocking the run of the attacker, i have to stop defending, and grab this first defender again and stop him from giving away a freekick near the penalty area.

this is bulls.hit.

either
a) the AI of the first defender once he becomes under AI control again should REALISE that there is another defender in a better position than he is, and so he DOESNT NEED to push the attacker over. i agree that the CPU will do such a thing, come and push ME in the back from behind when there is another defender in better position, but the simple fact is i dont think it should happen. 5 star defenders should be impossible yes, but not complete pricks.

or maybe
b) the first defender should not be so aggressive in the tackle. everything else he does is half-arsed, ie off the ball movement, positioning - offensive and defensive, looking for and getting interceptions(and i dont jus mean ones where he sticks his lege out, ones that pass STRAIGHT by him), so i dont see why tackling is so aggressive.

i duno, i am sore loser lately hehe, but this stuff has stood out more than anything else.

another thing, with the 2 star game i played, the CPU had a goal kick which i think ramelow( me ) got a free header and send it forward to my strikers, but then the game stops because raul( CPU) was offside. WHAT THE HELL IS THAT>??

my only explanation is that its something to do with the difficulty level, and maybe that the CPU is trying to make it easier for someone by ruining some of its own chances. at times, on 5 star it seems that some of my CPU-controlled strikers sit offside ( when i am NOT playing thru balls) and ruin some of my chances by starting off side and then running back to recieve the ball. why do they sit offside!!?~!?~!

anyway theres a WHOLE bunch of crap to read and think about.
i am getting we6fe this week!! im sure that will be good enuff to silence my criticism for a bit.

That one bugs me too.

There is one other one that frustrates me sometimes. Say your two CFs are in front of the opposing back line and one of you players (generally midfielders) has the ball and they're dashing towards the opposing defense. You're past their midfield so it's basically a 3 on 4 situation. Anyway, I'm running towards their defenders and slowly towards the nearside CF. You've managed to pull the two defenders nearest the nearside CF towards the ball, and you're yelling at the CF, 'Run into the space!' instead he just keeps jogging right next to you.

Other than that I prefer PES2 to PES. The game flows better, but the AI could still be improved a touch. Then again, it's the closest we have to the real thing.

AI problem

What disappoints most with this game is cpu AI. I really think it sucks. Most of the teams just passes the ball to the strikers and let them do the rest. When I face Real Madrid I expect to be outplayed with fluent passing by technically brilliant Real Madrid players. But when all I get is a pass to the strikers who desperately want's to do it all by themselves that's what I'll call a rip off. This game should have been so much better, and even though it kicks fifa's ass that doesn't really say very much.

I also feel that the cpu AI always force me to play the same way they do, maybe that's just the that I ain't a brilliant PES2 player or does someone else feel the same way?

When I bought this game I was convinced that I finally owned a thruly brilliant game, but yet again the fifa feeling ruined this game for me.

I have never tried PES which probably is way more of a simulation style of soccer compared to PES2 and fifa??

PES3 really needs to smack PES2 under to the ground! And by the way, when PES3 is released (anybody who knows when?)
I am definetly going to test it before I buy it! (Please excuse my english if it ain't very good...)
