PES3 or Fifa2004 - Ultimate review

I have bought both pes3 and fifa2004 and played both religiously for the past few days and this is my review

Graphics

pes3 fifa2004
9 9.5

The graphics on pes3 are much arcade style the players seem larger than life....both games are awsome graphics but fifa clinches it as the faces, bodies the way theey move are much more detailed and realistic

Sound and Atmoshpere

pes3 fifa2004
6.5 9!

Very Very Very disopointed with the sounds on pes3 ...when u get a goal away there is silence (isnt there such a thing as away fans!!!) even when u score a crucial goal at home there is not passion in the crowed .when u give a penalty away it is like nothing is wrong and yet silence again.....All is oppositte to fifa2004 ...all goal, challenges and celebrations are acompanied by an awsome sound and crowed jeering....awsome

Goal , Freekicks , penalties

pes3 fifa2004
5 8

Fifa is much improved in the way you can score by rangin a mixture of close range shots with flukey 25 yarder attempteds ..the power bar is awsomely created to achieve the correct power and the new freekicks are incredible....But on pes3 the slightest tap of the shoot button could send ur ball over the stadium..freekicks are also very basic and there is no fun in scoring....the only way u can score is penalty area and is very dissopointing

Range and depth

pes3 fifa2004
8 9

I feel both have improved from there parents especially fifa....which has all new nationwide leagues , training and all new transfer options ....on pes 3 there is a 4th master league division and new transfer options...It depends wat u like...but i give fifa a 9 as it has updated it immensly and with new nationwide league the fun never ends!!! it also makes a huge differnece with all real names and official competions on fifa

Gameplay

pes3 fifa2004
7 8

with all new off the ball option fifa 2004 has blown us away with this ....it runs super smooth too...the level of ur team really shows if ur playing a much poorer or better teamwith ur skill , sprint and passing ...also the goal range is very good....The only reason pes3 got a good mark for its lob through balls...with this it makes the game more enjoyable but the defence are very very very tight on pes3 and the goal range isnt good at all...

Overall

pes3 fifa2004
7 9

I feel both have improved but fifa is deffinatly the football game to have ....awsome in all asspects of the game and a huge range of options and games to have..fifa has all real names, colours and competions unlike pes3 and an extra cost of a 10 pund disc to update it isnt worth it....fifa2004 ....truely amazing

the defense is supposed to be tight in real life.. otherwise u will get scores like 12-7 at half time.

and i scored a couple of long range shots in PES, u don't see many long range shots going in in real life don't you?

I mean ....the defence is unrealistic in pes3...all four or five defence closes u down and there is no room i any part of the field....what i ment by longer ranged shots is 18yrd box...and there is goals from there very often in soccer...but in pes3 penalty area and 6yrd box shots are for me 99% of the time.......

I thik many of you are thinking this is a game and its suppose to be fun....goals from 18yrd + and players to show runs and skill is all the fun....and real

First of all, I don't see why you open two the same topics, but I still like to go into your comments.
The defense is very good, yes, but that's so in real football as well. The way to open it, is make 1-2s and runs.
Some guy in the ISS/PES forum asked how to make other players run. Below is my answer and the reason why I copy it in here is to show how much depth this game has. So if it does not do anything for you after playing it 2 days (WOW  ) it has only to do that you did not give it the chance to go into the menu's with all their features.

Try again and come back in a week. I am sure you will be much more enthousiastic :)

This is what I wrote about making runs....

Yes there is more than one way to do that
A) Individual
B) The team method

A) The way it is in FIFA, where you press the symbol of the player you want to make a run is more or less automated in PES.
You first need to set this in the Formation menu before you start the game (You also can change it during the match).
Go the this menu: Formation->individual->Attack
In this attack menu you can choose any player (his dot in the screen above will blink), now press X and you see 8 arrow-directions, from which you can choose upto 2 directions this selected player will run.
As you can imagine, you can make all players run where you want when in possesion.
But you are not ready now, because you want them to run back when you loose possesion, right? If you finish setting this attacking arrows, go back one menu and choose the defense menu:
Again you can select the players, but this time you instruct them how to defend: Choice between low, medium or high defensive attitude. This way you tell which players need to defend most or only a bit.
Now you have combined players attacking and defending attitude.
For instance when you select your sidemidfielder (LM or RM) to attack with an arrow forward (along the wing) and only a small defensive arrow (blue small arrow) then this player is most likely to make runs for you, also depending his attribute on ATTACK (see his attributes in the middle of the screen).
If his ATTACK-attribute is high (in the mid 80's or higher), he will make more and better runs than when he's only in the 60's.
Same of course for defending; the lower the DEFENSE-attribute, the better he is able to run back in right positions when lost possesion.

B) That was the individual part of running, now team-running...
Leave the Formation menu and go to strategy.
You now select semi-auto and here you see a list of strategies.
If you want to make runs with wingers, you select right or left side attack and if you want to let your centre back go forward, you choose CB-overlap.
There are more things to set of course but this is already a large post I use the auto-settings most for off side and counter attack and no-strategy. The manual strategy button ( L2 ) is for zone press.
That was team setting.

If you want to make all players run forward and backward on command, just forget everything I told you and just press L2+R1 for everybody attack one level higher or L2+R2 for everybody defend one level down. There are five attack/defend levels.

lol "the players in Fifa move they way they are spose to"

You seen Henry run down with the ball? Or Beckham take a freekick. Heskey "trying" to score.

Your an idiot.

Its like being in a parellel universe in the FIFA forum - they honestly believe FIFA is a simulation and PES the worst football game ever.

I think they live their whole life parellel to us infact - they talk out of their Anus :funny: :crazyboy:

I agree with almost every point of the thread-opener. Atmosphere, presentationen both audio and visual, the game depth...blablabla. I could go an for hours. Fact is that EA Sports have finally felt the pressure about PES3 being released on PC and have at last drawn something REAL from their FIFA license.

Its awesome when you start the game. The menu music has been improved and is nearly as good as Madden's. The menus are stylish and easy to navigate. Something EA Sports never seem to have done since FIFA98. Anyway, it goes on when picking the gamemode. All those nice logos and batches. Makes you feel at home. And when the gladiators enter the arena its a beautiful scene to watch.

Then you start the game and move your player around and you suddenly realise: Oh, yeah, FIFA.. I forgot.

The gameplay has not improved as far as the other components of the game. Taking the above mentioned rating system I would give it a 6. Maybe a 7 because the set pieces are designed wonderful, especially free kicks are awesome to play.

But in no whatsoever parallel dimension FIFA has a better gameplay as PES. I wish it had.

Vice versa with PES. The moment you start playing you feel at home. Especially when playing against human opponents its terrific. You can actually feel the game. So, that's football.

And my final rating would be FIFA 8, PES 10. Because after all the gameplay is the one thing that keeps you playing. One day you will not realize the presentation anymore but the gameplay will still draw you...or not.

After all I will play FIFA for a while and also test it on my PC but I fear it wont keep me from playing PES.

Thanks for your attention. :crazyboy:

I agree with you about EA improving FIFA, although there is no reason for me to spend hours playing the FIFA 2004 demo, because I have the full version of PES 3 on my playstation :hump:
But I keep feeling that EA's biggest problem is on the part of their culture. It is very hard for them to 'think footbal' and it shows.
They end up making a eye-catcher all the time and you see them trying to hang on with the game playing features from Konami (they introduced only a year ago the feature of the player that wasn't attached to the ball and this year they try running off the ball), but it is all a bit artificial: It is not one whole game; they just paste all kind of new gameplay features to the old game.... That make the game not feel like real football.
Maybe I failed to make my point, because it is more how I 'feel' the game, hope you guys understand what I mean :)

You have played PES longer than me but the way players recieve a pass sucks but dribblings, heading, tactics, intro that I like.
Though when I played the demo it was very slow and lagging when I came to the penalty area??
