PES3 with a Radeon SE 9800

I would not buy a 9800SE.

There are 2 different versions of this card available - the cheaper ones have a 128-bit memory bus and are no better than a 9600 Pro/XT. The more expensive ones have a 256-bit memory bus, but for about the same price you could get a full 9800 non-pro which will work much better in the latest games.

Both versions have only 4 pixel pipelines like the 9600 series, instead of 8 like the other 9800's.

I'd get either a 9600XT or a 9800 non-pro depending on how much you want to spend. Either of these would run PES3 and all the latest games great (I have a 9800 Pro btw).

ATI are really starting to :f***: me off with all these stupid crippled versions of their cards. It's like they're trying to confuse the customer on purpose.

Yes I also considered buying the SE, but its a ripoff. I now have the 9800 Pro, no problems with 1280 x 1027 with detail setting on high.

My specs, firstly:
-Gateway Select 1100 (coming up on 3 years in February) AMD Athlon 1.1 GHz; 256MB RAM, non-overclocked, simply because I don't have a clue how to.
-ATI Radeon 7200 (32MB)
-MSI Athlon motherboard (part #2512594)

It runs in 640x480 windowed mode with low detail. First off, can the motherboard and processor be replaced by stuff which is faster, or am I SOL on the motherboard? Secondly, I haven't had any problems with my Radeon card (Catalyst latest version for me, driver-wise). So which 9000 series Radeon would you suggest I try?

Any help appreciated. The BIOS I have is currently upgradeable, but will that make any significant difference? And what about this new program 3D-Analyze, which was suggested in the gamefaqs forum for this game as a possible antidote to the slowness of PES3?

Thanks :)

i suggest you guys invest in a ti 4600
I owned a Ti4600 before this 9800 Pro (still got it actually, in my second system), and while it's a nice card I wouldn't recommend buying one now.

The best value for money card around atm is the 9600 Pro, cheaper than a Ti4600 on pricewatch.com and will play the latest games better.

I'd get that rather than a 9800SE, or if you can go up to $160-165 get a 9600XT.
