PES4 a dissapointment?

you're probably double tapping the shoot button accidently, he does a chip this way.

That keeper thing is a minor niggle, and if keepers do it on headers it's very realistic. Keepers sometimes don't have time to react to hard headers, or even angled shots that a re powerful.

The thing that bothers me, is gameplay..where's the fun?

This is the first time I'm worried about Konami's great franchise..what if they neverget back to the fun of we7i?

i disagree i think it`s pretty good i and i think with the online mode it should come with a health warning.

i think we8 is better though and the online is supposedly better too :D

I also think on the keeper issue i tap triangle whenever the ballsflys near my keeper and i haven`t had many instances of keeper standing still and i`ve played a hell of a lot of pro evo 4

The gameplay is good actually, it's much better than 7, I guess i just have to ingnore the goal keeper issue and enjoy the game.:p

jumbo!! how are you man?

Bro I know, but I'm a little worried as to the quality of KCET's future releases, hopefully they can see the errors in the gameplay, and make changes that bring back the fun and excitment of playing this beautiful game...

I'm not fussed about graphics updates, licences, official kits, new motion capture, online bullcrap. Gameplay baby gameplay...it's 99% of the game for me. Heck, some of us played with Ronarid and Soker and had a blast, Konami need to concentrate on that...

i am ill and can't read the whole topic. But for me PES is never a dissapointment. I saw ur points some of them are correct (most) but since we dun have a 2nd option (at least I dun have) i just try to enjoy it. After all some of the gameplay bugs may be annoying but if u try to play more realistic like making more passes etc it won't get so annoying. Because if i wish to score i get a good and fast player (ronni for example) and score easily on 6 stars. I think that you lose the ball easier bcoz they had to find a way to make the game harder.

exactly nick !!!

I don't want to "try to play more realistic", I want the game to FORCE me to play more realistic. Like WE7I.

I wouldn't touch FUFA, so now the competitor to PES4 is WE7int. And we chose the latter...that's sad.

Maybe we've had some threads like this guys, but I haven't been around for a while and I was wondering if any of the PES veterans agree with me.

I bought PES4 as soon as it came out, and loved for the first 10 games. It was different, but the extra little tweaks made it impressive from the word go. I loved the volleys, the through balls, the powerful headers, the low cros was back and fast, the animations were superb and stroking the ball around the back was more realistic.

But then, huge gameplay issues surfaced for me, and a few of my friends who play WE/PES regularly.

We have since gone back to WE7I and it's a much much better game for my money. More balanced, addictive and most importantly, fun!

Things I cannot understand in PES4.

1. Less control. You lose the ball often because, even good players, cannot control it in midfield.

2. Ackward passing animations. They will sometimes pass with the outside of the foot, or to the wrong player. This usually happens if the player I'm trying to pass to is being marked, the player with the ball will pass to someone in that general direction. I want full control, if I make a mistake while pasing, I want to lose the ball because of it. I need no help from the computer.

3. Too many shots. We usually have 12-15 shots with 8-10 decent chances in a given game on 10min. This is unrealistic. It seems that the forwards will get an unfair advantage at times. This isn't scripted like FIFA or anything, but you can often turn the defender and leave him for dead.

4. Lose marking. Defenders often leave too much space for people without the ball. And it's difficult to make a tackle (see no. 3) so shots galore is often the result.

5. Seems slow and unresponsive at times. You'll get through the defense even with a move you didn't mean to make.

6. Standout players aren't really much better than average ones. Both have control problems and fluid dribbling is difficult, even with Ronaldinho. Something which didn't used to happen in WE7I, where you can tell the better player as soon as you receive with him. This may be due to the ackward animation of turning with ball at feet. Which sometimes takes a tad too long to look good.

7. Overall fun, building from midfield, trying different solutions and making good passes...it has all but dissapeared from PES4. It's just not as fun.

After a few weeks of playing it hard, we realised there are flaws, this game just wasn't up to the standard of WE7I, nevermind the changes to graphics, animations and a good few excellent improvements...the fun factor was missing gameplay wise.

So we went back to WE7I and there it was again. The beutiful game, perfectly balanced. Outsmart, outhink and outplay the opponent, instead of the winner being decided by a lottery of chances and better finishing.

Overall, PES4 is a HUGE dissapointment. I hope WE8LE will be back on track, hopefully Konami has realised that the product is just not as fun as it used to be, just one incarnation ago.

I hope, otherwise I will stick to WE7I untill Konami incorporates their old ways into new versions.

Who's with me? Who thinks I'm wrong?

First off... You all know that i,m a Fifa player.
But i,ve replied this thread, because i feel that i have to give Respect to the CRO.
For being a long serving ISS/PES player, ( like i am Fifa) and giving an Honest and Truthfull review of a game which you can tell is dear to his heart.

Second ... I,m replying because i have recently spent a decent amount of time playing PES4 on PC demo as well as playing a few friends on Xbox. I have to Agree with the CRO, as i have personaly noticed the majority of faults that he has listed.
Some were pretty obvious, but others i thought may be down to me being PES novice.

Now don,t read this post wrong. I,m not here to gloat, because to me,
which ever game you play is always going to be down to personal preference, and Both PES & FIFA have their Strengths and Weaknesses.
" If you are prepared to be honest " ;)
The only problen that i have with PES fans, is the Fact that most of them are NOT , and spend too much time Over hyping PES or picking faults in Fifa... :(

WE8LE better than WE8I right? Or they are the same? If i can get it somehow in europe. I have never tryed WE and i feel i am missing smth. I feel kinda bored with PES i know every single thing with it I have been scoring from cornerns and fouls from 50m to pass my time. I only play when my team has a match (real one) and want to play against the team we play.

I must admit it is great fun when u play with a friend of course.

P.S Jumbo man i will stick to ur sig :p

I'd say I agree with theCRO more than not.
Two main concerns that makes makes my enjoyment of Pes4 not as satisfying as the one I experienced playing Pes3/We7 are:
1) Game feels clumsy and somewhat numb. Sometimes I feel I can't get hold of the things. Controls are unresponsive and players acts strange - all the stumbling, pushing the ball 3 meters high with he's belly, tripping over. This makes the game very unsmooth and lacking aesthetically. I still don't understand why developers made the trend this way, maybe just for a sake of experiment.
(We8Int(PC) repairs some of this stuff (falling over, thuging shirts), but it's not enough).
2) As it'already been said, the game forces you to play mindless, english secon league counterattacking/wingplay football with lots of running, pushing, struggling involved. You simply have to run like headless chicken all the time to be succesfull. It's boring and dull, especially for me. I'm more into calmer, clever buildup play doing lot's of small passes, little one-twos, neat dribbles and alike, making the final blow after quality ball possesion. I'm huge fan of teams like Barcelona, Brazil and other top class south american/south european top teams who prefers this kind of style.
Unfortunately it's impossible or just uneffective in Pes4 unlike it was in Pes3/We7. I could pick Barca and just walk the ball in, because they had very skilled players, good passers. Now I'm forced to play this scandinavian/british type of ''physical'' football even with like of Barca. It plays and looks bad.:( Got to change this back.

Personally if i pick Barca i play like Barca if i pick like Arsenal i play like Arsenal if i pick Roma i can play as roma ,if i pick Argentina i play like Argentina, if i pick Vittese i play like Vittese.Pro Evolution 4 (not 3) is a perfect tactical game for me.The key to be succesfull is to take 100 per cent from your players. Also you have to use all or the most of the movements that the game give to you.Its important to use them with perfect timing.Thats all for me.

Konami did an EA by getting a lot of licenses but screwing in gameplay. You press triangle and then the defender goes nuts, your striker gets clear and that's it. However, they made up for that by screwing up the shooting aswell!

Terribly hard to score from outside the area now, as it seems even Adriano cant shoot the ball at a decent power and speed, plus no matter what direction i press sometimes it seems my players will always kick the ball into the middle of the goal (where the keeper is).

Basically, they made it 100x easier to create opportunities (clear opportunities aswell) and to avoid high scores they screwed up the shots.

On PES3, you needed to have a brain and play properly, and it was harder to create chances. The shooting was good, not too easy and not too hard, and you would get a decent score in a match aswell, THAT, knowing that the game didnt arrange it.

Dribbling is ridiculously easy aswell. And they made it a lot harder to score from headers, not to mention your forwards get outrun by the likes of Materazzi (that on a 1x1 against your mate with all the setting put to have the player on maximum conditions).

So, it was a dissapointment, and i have some little fun with it still, but seriously, the game pisses me off more. I'm still playing PES3, and i'm happy.

The good points are the licenses, new stadiums and improved master league. They kinda make the game worthy of playing aswell, but i expected more from it. The crossing animations are brilliant too, but the passing stuff is kinda poor. That's my point of view.

Hmmm.....i'll come back with an update but as it is now with AS Roma, in about 30 matches ive given up 4 goals. This is on 6 stars, mind you. Im renting this WE8 so my feelings may be different had I bought it.

As it stands: Nearly every game I score from a double tapped cross from wing resulting in a diving header. I have to fully agrre with Gnid= it does force you to play wing ball doesnt it? (minus the quazi English footie style insult) But youre very right. AND youre spot on about the ball going to the middle of the goal on shots. The computer even shooots real bad. Im am so NOT in fear of any team its almost not worth it. Ill keep postin--specially if I get scored on. I was looking forward to a higher difficulty as Im unfortunatly pretty good at these games. I dont want to have to NOT use 3 forwards so I dont kill the comp. Also, they scoring from anywhere seems choked as heck. I wanted a harder transfer sysytem too. Too easy so far. Gonna have to try the International teams some more as in past ISS/WE releases its either Good or Unbalanced Bad to play as the international teams. This year might be good for that.

Most of us arent done with 7. Plain and simple.
