PES4 (PC) impressions thread

I suppose PC version deserves it's own thread, because ther are things that works differently than on consoles. Like graphics, online play and possibly, the gameplay too. We have to find out.

I can't provide a full list of pros and cons yet, have to play more, but here's some first impressions, things that drew my attention first.
I played international tournament as Brasil on 5*.

First of all - dribbling.
I can't understand people who say that dribbling is too easy compared to Pes3. WTF!!! Dribbling is soo much harder now. At least for me. I'm now happy if I manage to get past 1 defender. When I played Pes3 I could do thr Maradona stuff with like of Minanada and Castolo, now even good dribblers aren't that sharp anymore. CPU seem to cheat a bit. It's often that I thought I got past defender, but then he sticks out the leg and the ball starts bouncing and jumping. Needles to say, it usually jumps right at the legs of CPU player. :/
I like dribbling to be more difficult, because in Pes3/We7 int. it was nothing special to dribble past 4-5 opponents at one go, now it's a lot harder. Sometimes it even gets a bit annoying. I usually use R2 to push the ball to side and now I can't even make a basic dribble in an ordianry situation.

Shooting.
I like trajectory of the ball flying/rolling into the net. It's more natural now, no more baloon stuff. Overall shots are better now and shooting aniamtion is improved a lot. One thing concerns me though. It looks like Konami has made shooting completely manual now. In Pes3 when you pushed sqare button you could score even if you didn't run exactly towards net, but now it seems you have to position your shooter exactly towards the goalmouth. I've scored only one goal from outside the box till now(including quite a few hours playing demo). A lot of my shots from 20-25 meters are so bad, the ball goes so wide of the goal that it almost goes out over the sideline, not goalline.
Headers are a bit too hard also. Though I've scored 4 or 5 headers now, but players head over the bar just too often, even from point blank range and without any pressure.
The funny thing is that CPU experiences exactly the same problems. At least it's fear.:)

Very slow responses from players.
Have you noticed that it's even worse than in Pes3? Players are reacting unacceptably late after pushing the button. 1/2 times I lose possesion because player won't pass or do some move regardless my crazy button bashing. Doh:confused:
This is shows worst of all when you have a ball with your defender, opposite forwards have stolen away the ball and scored several times because of this. I HATE IT!!

CPU cheating.
This is obvious. When score is even the flow of the match is even too. Both sides can score, make mistakes and such. But when you score first CPU switches to it's turbo-super-mega-ultra-uubermensch mode. They start playing like gods, tremendous pressure, great runs, unstoppable dribbling. If you lead bu one goal and it's near the end of the match, preper to consede a goal. I've consided the equalizer in dying minutes 3 times in an int. tournament playing Brazil. Can you imagine, last minute equalizer in 3 matches in one tournament!!!
I think that CPU is lowering my and increasing he's own player's attributes in last minutes, because it seems odd when R.Carlos looses at everything, speed, body balance and so on in last minutes even against average forwards.

AI.
Forward's and midlefield's AI is increased a lot. No more stupid standing and watching how you struggle alone against 4 defenders. They make a lot of good runs and behavior is smart overall.
My team's defenders AI is worst than in Pes3 though. It seems that they are doing everything to make CPU score goals against me. Positioning is awfull. Every time I gain controll over defender, I have to drag him direction where he should be, because they are always at the wrong place even though I've set all the individual tactics right. I hate that lots of goals CPU scores against me are from one-on-one situations, only because the stupid defender's AI.

Graphics are fine except the pitch that is a pain in the eyes. I hope it's patchable, otherwise Konami has to release this game with warning loke, ''Danger, Pe4 can cause damage to your eyes''.

Referees.
Tremendously great, wonderfull, simply splendid. Especially advantage rule.

All for now. I want to hear feedback from other PC players too.

i just came from a game, when i scored the 2 -1 leading goal, the computer started playing super good, and my players couldn't touch the ball, if they did, and pass it, they would take it away from me, and in the last minute, my keeper saved it.....

other thing i've noticed, that used to happen in PES3, is that when the ball is coming from the air, and two opponents go for it, the computer decides who will get it (usually the computer) and it slows down your player, like he starts running on butter trying to get to it lol

yep, cheats are still there

In fairness, in real life if a team is loosing they will step up a gear and push hard for an equalizer, especially towards the end of the game. I can only guess Konami were trying to be realistic in this regard. Shame they didn't seem to notice the many unrealistic features of the game - ping pong ball behaviour, super fast gameplay and outside foot passing EVERY time!

I can underestand that, but they overdone it. It's getting annoying when you feel fated to consede the goal in last minute no matter what you do.

Yes, I forgot to mention outrageous speeds of the game. I can only enjoy it using CMSpeeder to slow the game down. And passes are soo fast. Outside of foot pass frequency looks very unnatural too.

One more thing. I feel that Pes4 has gone in more arcade way. In Pes3 I could play a lot of calm build up play if I had skillfull players in my possesion. Lot of passing in various directions and walking pace gameplay was possible too in Pes3. In Pes4 you have to run all the time and most of passing is stright forward. Every attcak looks like counterattack even when playing as Brazil. I don't like it, because I prefer more techniqe and inteligent football, not that crazy running passing Pes4 forces me to do.

You are right, dribbling is harder (or to be more accurate - clumsier!). Did you try flick-up? It sucks!
I was a great dribbler in pes3, but here - omg, not even near - i can do some complex dribbles, but player reactions on my controls suck! I'm not feeling any control over them as in pes3, it's like "hit the key and hope for the best". Almost like crap fifa :(

I think Konami really messed up this time. Seems that they have changed the gameplay too much, pes3 just has better. Of course a new game should have something "new" to offer but most of the changes are worthless and they only make the game worse. Cause when i think about pes3, there really isn't many improvements needed...at least in gameplay. Online-mode and national leagues were almost only features i myself wanted. Thanks to Konami for those anyway...

The worst in pes4 is game speed, especially the shots (usually they're like rockets  ). Weird ball bouncings and outside foot passes are annoying too. What also pisses me off is that when your shot goes wide, opponents keeper always knows it and he doesn't even try to save :( .

I had huge expectations on pes4 and now i'm disappointed and a bit depressed too :( . Pes4 is a quality footie game but pes3 is more enjoyable. I hope that time will change my opinions, but i have to be optimistic. Would love to play online with you guys, but i'm considering sticking with pes3. If pes3 only had online-game, it'd be like a dream come true...

uff, I thought it was just me
I noticed it too

I agree with rest of points instead of dribbling part ;) I have feeling dribbling is more natural and easier to beat even last defender (of course it depends on difficulty level, on 5 stars it's harded but I like dribbling now)

and I love shooting system, muuuuuuuch better than in PES3 (outcluding moronistic outside of foot shoots and passes which looks more than stupid sometimes)

overall AI is much better now, they don't just run, pass to wingers, go to line, turn back and cross like pes3, now they prefer combine play I see and it's good challenge

damn I won just one 5 stars game (both teams equal, condition etc all fair) so it means it's very good in this case

yeah whats with the copious amounts of outside the foot passes ? i didnt see this much in previous versions, it feels very unnatural when they do it and they can pass it outside of the foot style about 20 meters, i would think it would be morely a close 5-8 meter pass. I dont like that part but overall its fun

Another annoying new "feature" that I´ve noticed in PES4 demo version (not playing full version yet)...
Players without the ball are able to run faster than the players that are controlling it..

Come on!! Roberto Carlos can run faster than a lot of younger players, even possessing the ball..

It looks more natural, there is more of them, but some of them are useless :(
And the controls for dribbling in most cases respond bad, unlike in pes3. It would be perfect if they just leave control response as in pes3 and to add new moves IMO.

to leave everything as it is in we7ij and ONLY ADD new moves, animations, sounds, teams, features, AI, online etc.. and remove some bugs in game.. this would be the recept for the best PES game ever!

i dont know why konami decided to remove some parts of the game / make it worse.

:(

PS: pes4 rocks :rockman:

It's very good that Konami has listened to fanbase and tried to make the game more challenging, but they've chosen the easyest path, as if they were EA.
I agree with Mayor pointing out that dribbling is more natural and mostly dependent on change of directions and pushing ball to a side etc. The idea is right, less fancy stuff, more realistic football. The problem is, that by trying to make the game harder, isted of making CPU's AI tactically smarter and more responsive, KONAMI has done everything to make controls as unresponsive as they could. I completely agree with ge4ce, that dribbling is too clumsy now. Not only dribbling, but also the way how players receive ball. The first touch is awfull, even Ronaldinho rarely stops the ball dead after simple passes. Ball always tends to jump around as if it was made of rubber. Players always have to run on some kind of ''autopilot'' for few seconds after they received ball and I haven't a permission to controll them yet. Also when running with the ball theres always a feeling like if the player is a train vagon, you can controll it only to accelerate more, but when it's on it's way it's on he's own. Too damn clumsy.
Why had they made this worst than in We7. What is this? Do they think that by forcing your players to play like my grandmother, they made the game better.
Worst of all when it happens in defense. CPU just makes my defenders to behave sluggish so that they could take away the ball from me. I rarely intercept the pases from teyr defenders with my forwards, they do it all the time.

I tryed and started the ML with ''default players'' and from 20 matches (10 minutes, 5*) I lost 17, made to draws and one only once. I dunno, maybe there's something wrong with me, but this is too much. It's no wonder that I couldn't get anything right with those sh!ty fyckheads if I experience great problems with holding possesion with the team like Brazil, which has been known reputation for their great ball controll.
I've decided to play ML with the actual lineups, not default ones, because it appears that Konami has removed possibility to make transfer negotiations a bit more easyer. I tryed to by Eto paying twice us much they demand, but the negotiation still broke down. It's clear for me that I would be stuck with default idiots forever that way.

Boy, am I really that crap at this game? I don't think that more practicing will do me any good. I can't think of the way to make controls more precise and responsive. I can't ***in' score and mostly loose the match by 0-1. CPU usually scores at the end of the match(something fishy about that too).:crazyboy:

Back to practice im an old PES player and i do not find it that hard...1-2 r very effective in the oppositions penalty areas...1-2 boom and goal! Its way better than in PES 3 the same goes for short through passes...what did u expect the perfect game!?!?

1-2 pass is maybe too effective in this game. One more problem in this game is that the game is not balanced properly.
I mostly agree with Gnidrologist, only thing that it seems different to me than to him is that game is not so much harder.
If you use 1-2, it is even easier than pes3. If not, then it is much harder. Maybe it's just me, but

I agree about the ahrd dribbling but about the "CPU cheating"

I don't think it's cheating. It is like that and it's good. If Real Madrid is behind 1 to 0 against Leverkusen they start their super offensive and become a hole new team with motivation and **** like that so it's super and that makes spaces in their defence to so it's ******* super. I love the counter attacks !"

Chammas

Senior Squad
1-2 balls is effective and always have been in real tight football. But maybe it should be a bit harder to handle. I think its okey tho.
