PES4 PC Online League

Ok guys, the first thread has just been updated again, sorry about the delay. I've gone with the first posted-first claimed system all the way through. Like I said, we'll all be so "trigger-happy" I can see the first season being finished in about 2 weeks anyway! For the 2nd season I'm gonna implement a ranking system based upon the teams strength v performance and then people will get allocated teams to fit their ability in the following season. This will take away being able to directly choose a team but will be more fun when you see who you're allocated.

I'm also gonna go ahead and start a national league in the 2nd season, allocation will be based upon strength again as too few teams will be first choice nationally to make many people happy anyway.

Regarding the option file, I think in line with every other online game of this type out there, we'll all have to use the same option file. As soon as the game is released I'll work on getting all the names correct and updating the transfers so we can all play with the same accurate file. Different option files will probably crash the game online anyway. If people want their own option file to play with for other times it's easy just to switch them in and out of the save folder.

I think I'm gonna go with an entry fee because the winners (especially of the international league when it starts) deserve a prize of some sort. We can all donate through PayPal or similar and we'll let one of the mods on here handle the entry fee collection and prizes.

I should hopefully have a patch out within the first week or so of release with all the real uniforms and other stuff. We may have to all be using the same patch too but I'm not sure. In this case, we'll just have to have 2 .afs files on our system which you can switch in and out of your dat folder.

When the game hits our hands, we need to test the crap out of the online/IP to IP mode before anybody starts collecting league fees. I have some pretty heavy reservations about whether or not this is going to work:

1) IP to IP puts the host at a supreme advantage. If you've ever played a First Person Shooter online against someone who's actually playing FROM the server (or it's network), you'll know what I mean. Even if I'm pinging 60 (pretty good for ADSL), that 0 ping the opponent has can make all the difference. It COULD be the decisive factor between two evenly matched opponents.

2) Geographic location: How good can a transcontinental game be? I remember playing Quake on servers in Sweden. A 30 ping in the States translated to 150-200 ping hitting a server across the pond. Again, a game breaker. There's a very real possibility that we've already got people signed up from 4 or more different continents.

Sorry to be skeptical, I just want everyone to realize we have some hurdles to cross before this thing can be pulled off. For myself, I got caught up in the moment of the prospect of playing PES online. Now I'm more cautiously optimistic.

The wolf you are a brilliant part of the community. Fair play man. Have used all your patches in the past and they are phenomenal. Well done.

I totally agree with pretty much everything that has been said.

Bootylactin I also agree with you. ip to ip needs to be tested. That should be ok. I live in Ireland. I would be a pretty good person to test on. I have 512/128 broadband.

this might lay a few of your concerns to rest:

FPS games are totally different, to a 1v1 online game - multiple players connect to a server on a FPS game, and i presume, this is where bottlenecks can happen

1v1 is less laggy,i have vast experience in this after playing madden 2004 and 2005 online via pc, against players from as far as estonia to the usa. maybes it the netcode or whatever, but i wouldnt be as concerened with lag, as long as konami have put a decent netcode in.

but i agree, testing is the only way we will ever know, but im sure there will be plenty of volunteers to play pes online :D

It's official, PES4 will not be online, they made a mistake into thinking it was for the XBOX, the PC version will only be single mode, don't buy this. Get fifa 2005

Pfff!!! 1) PES don't need Online option to be the best football videogame..
2) Wolf explained us his will to transform the network (LAN) option purposed in PES4 into a "ip to ip" option.
Conclusion: UberOne2010 could you keep your stupid advices for some fifa forums.

What the hell are you talking about? Nobody is disputing PES4 has to be online to be the best. First of all, learn to speak English and then come back and attempt to tell me what I can or can not do.

PS: Thanks for the old news about Wolfs intentions. Good stuff. Nice to see you on the ball(literally). You just fell off.

Guys, no arguing on the thread. Let's keep the arguing in check and reserved purely to tell the FIFA twats to get lost!

I'd rather play WE2002 online with the PSX emulator than play FIFA 2005 online. In fact I'd rather play freaking tic tac toe online than FIFA 2005 online!

Konami haven't made any mistakes on their website. It wouldn't be up there if it wasn't true. LAN play is easy to convert to IP to IP play, it's smoother, fewer hang-ups and easier to arrange. Hosting servers normally get bottlenecks and there's little or no advantage to them other than for the lazy who can't find anybody to play directly. We've got enough people registered here between us on this forum alone to keep us going until PES10!!!

Look at the stats. They specifically say you can go on the internet. Why would they limit it to a local network?

Why do you want to take money? I would rather not pay any money and not win any money either. This is football, not poker.

Dude, it would be about $1.50 which is hardly gonna break the bank. I just think league and cup winners in the league should get a prize.

Wolf, I got my reservations against fees.

The way I see it, it has to be either a big fee ($10 or more), so it will stimulate everybody to not just try it for a game or two and then not show up anymore, or it has to be free.

If you ask a little fee, you will block admission for a lot of people who can't or won't pay over the internet.

please can someone explain to me the reason why everyone is saying this will need converting from LAN to ip-ip via an external mod??

the pes4.com booklet does not in any way suggest a LAN option

2 reasons: an internet connection - this is different to LAN
and the connection speeds - 64kminimum??? surely if it was LAN, they would have put 10mb Network Card?? and recommended 1.5Mbps - surely if it was LAN they would recommend 100Mbp network cards??

if this booklet is true - then the game will be packaged with an IP-IP connection option already.

if what wolf is working on is a 'lobby' function, then i can understand that, as i doubt that Konami would provide that function. - BUT the booklet states that this game WILL already support IP-IP online play.

also, anyone looking for a free league to play in, rather than have to pay to play check this out:

cheers

i just didn't bother read the answers on pay fee not all at least.

Look i would agree to pay fee but i am just 15 i have no paypal and no credit card so that is hard for me to pay. I also think that we must keep this for fun at least the first tournament. Maybe a prize will be to become mod on this forum? or i dunno what else we figure out.

Lol... LAN can be 64k hence they're giving this figure as a minimum.
They're talking about LAN speeds not network cards.

If 1.5MB is indeed the recommended speed, only the people with fat pipes will get anything out of this game and most games will be slightly laggy if you're lucky.

IF the game is indeed P2P, the recommended 1.5MB is still TOO MUCH.

Hell, it ain't even specified it if's up or down.

Me thinks PC users are getting ripped off and XBOX is getting special treatmeant, i.e. smooth online experience.
