PES5- backwards step or give more time? (my rant)

After a night of playing PES 5 I'm really frustrated with it and not really into it and I'm a PES fanatic. Though I did feel a bit the same way when PES 4 1st came about but then loved it. Things that are pissing me off are...fouls (all the f*ckin time, its like rugby league, but working ur way up the pitch in free kicks), shooting- seems a lot harder although I have scored a few screamers but oppurtunites for long rangers hardly seem to come around much (hard to create opening), lofted through balls are more like punted through balls and through balls in general arent as useful as in previous versions, dribbling- its a lot harder to beat many players, which is unfortuantley my style of play, the game also seems a lot slower but could be my system...I have a decent comp with radeon 9800 gfx and I've put the gfx down to med and 800*600 and it still stutters on some occasions e.g. free kicks, replays. I'm sure theres more stuff pissing me off but too tired to remember. Anyway, how you guys finding it, you agree with anything I say and you reckon its just a matter of getting used to the new version or what?

Personally I don't agree with what you say, but that may be because of the style I play. I play a lot more one-touch football and less dribbling, I pass around a lot and actually wait for openings (ones that could be opened with a simple pass) not just by Lob through pass and the through pass button. Again I think the game is just more challanging in terms of not giving players as much space as before just like in real life.

One thing that I use accordingly is the R2 button when recieving a pass, it is very useless because it is pretty much made for quick passing. Hold R2 when recieving a pass, then your player will control the ball and face the opponent's side, then you make smart passes. Also using that since your player is stopped he can make some really good through lobs. I suggest your start using it more but use it smartly not all the time. It was the major thing I was lacking when I tried to go back to WE8.

I'm starting to adapt to the PES5 style better and I really apprecaite the gameplay because of the challanging new opponents and system of making it like real life.

Well its early days but im 50/50 about it. I have to admit I hated Pes4 when it came out and it took me 3 months before realy enjoyed it. I so loved Pes3 also, so it was hard to move on. Im expecting the same with Pes5 and expect to love it soon. Its like any new Pes, you have to re train yourself and not play the same way as the previous one. Its only the first night and im sure it will grow on you BIG TIME!!! :ewan:

my rant....

i loved PES4... the best game ever made....pes5 another story....call it pes 5$...

passing is awful.... ball is like covered with crap it wont pass properly...

forget about hard through passess....

you foul the computer gets a free kick... the computer fouls sometimes you get one... oh and everytime you touch someone you get a foul.... :nape:

movement is slow, everytime you get the ball you move around like you are doing a dance even with R2 for receiving.... :lui:

kicks in the air are easier thats about all the benefits of this one... graphics are better but at a huge cost to fluidity of gameplay....the constant whistles make this game like a game of baseball.... :boohoo:

ill save my money and keep playing pes4...

I think they have done a great job , the only thing that I have noticed is that a great deal of the(cpu)teams you play against seem to have abilities above there stats. I played in a cup as Brazil and was up against Switzerland (0-0) Senegal (0-1) and Ecuador (0-1) a draw and two defeats. But the point Id like to make about these games and the teams I played against, was that Switzerland Senegal and Ecuador, played a 1 touch fast passing game (like Brazil of 1970 only faster) and defended like the Italians of old. By the way this was on the 3 star setting!

And when individual cpu players ran with the ball , they could stop on a sixpence and a side-step inside and they were off , with that and there passing it was hard to close them down. This added to the fact that they rarely missed a team mate with a pass or a header. For me you could have called them cpu team A B and C for all the difference there was between these teams. When they did pass it around it was fast 1 touch stuff that rarely missed its target, and the dribblers turned and side stepped away from my players.

Now this is not a moan about me not getting the ball off them or me creating that many clear goal scoring oppertunites! Its the fact that all 3 played in the exact same way, yes there formattions may have been different, but the way the these teams knocked the ball about and hardly missed a pass , was for me a bit unreal and that is why I said, you may just have called them cpu1 cpu2 cpu3 !

No harm of offence to Switzerland , but no swizz team in the last 20yrs (if ever) played the way the Swiss play in PES5, with near perfect 1st time passing or just possesion passing or defend like they do n the game!

Its just a gnawing thought in my head that all the teams I have played against so far knock the ball about in the exact same way, even the so called lesser teams! Apart from better finishing, the build up passing and the cpu defending, you may as well be playing against a Brazil or Argentina, instead of an Iran or a Switzerland.

cpu passing in pes5...or pes4 for that matter

on stars above 3 dont ever expect the cpu to make a wrong pass... you have to get the ball...and keep it....

its sad that the game play has lost its fluidity and fun....

its like moving mashed potatoes and whistles every 2 minutes...(of PES minutes...) even slightly bumping guys or trying to get the ball with X gets a foul 75% of the time.... sliding tackles are the best way to get the ball in this version i have mastered them although even them its retarded doing that for every challenge....

guys guys guys you are missing a very very important thing which is the tactics you have to know your oponent and make some man to man marking and some covering in order not to get flat on your back defensivly and like in real life football if i find that the way to cross the ball is clear and i can cross easily why change my tactic i played with arsenal vs chealse at first duff and joe cole were kicking ashly and louren butts but when i adjusted my formation i closed them down on the wings and thay had no chanse butt to go fromm the middle and soo on you have to adjust your plan and tactics according to your opponent and that's deffensivly and on the offince to if you striker is marked try adjusting you plan to get him away from the marking and make some opening it's all about the plan

I'm playing with 6 stars and usually I'm clearly outshooting my opponent. Opponent has also good shooting opportunities, but they bake and bake and then the situation is over. Do they shoot more on 5 stars? This is pretty much the only thing that bothers me in PES5 right now. :D

I played it online. And for now im not loving it like pes4.
My main complain is that the ball is too bouncy and the players are just TOOO slow to control it. I dont see much individuality in players anymore like i did in pes4.
They seem too slide too much around the field.
And i seriously think they should ban the pressure1 (X) button, where the player automatically follows the ball. Damn people use it a lot online, and they close you in so fast. Let people follow the ball by themselfs, i never understood why konami add this button. In pes4 you could easily avoid this, to turn around. But in pes5 player turn so slow. So you get a lot of scrimmages, where the ball bounces around too much.
Maybe ill love it, maybe not, only time will tell :boohoo:

There are couple more serious balance issues.

Impossible to chest the ball down to your feet, it's bumping of the player's belly like a rubber bisquit.
CPU's absolutely deadly in dead ball situations, especially if it's 80th min. or later in the match and you're winning/drawing. Similary to MightyTic, I player as Brasil in a WC against Latvia(!) and they scored from the FK absolutely fantastic curler in the top corner from 35 meters to draw the game. That was riddiculous cuz I know that latvians haven't scored a freekick goal for ages and doesn't have classy executors (i'm from Latvia hence i know that very well). Ciorners are also impossible to defend if CPU want's it badly. I haven't found a flawless tactic to defend their headers yet.

On the other hand they've made through balls absolutely random. There's too easy to make blind lifted through ball over the whole pitch and get the one on one. It seems you don't have to meassure the situation you are in, just push triangle and here you go. Sometimes when losing I catch myself doing a lot of these cuz it's often easyer to score from a cheesy through pass than by doing smart build up play.

The same goes with long shot - just wack it and you might get lucky. Deliberate passing and patient dribbling isn't as nearly rewarding as some random push of a button which is bad for ahardcore gaming.

as for free kick i have one solution if it bothers you that much don't give freekicks in dangoures areas and in corners i seems ok but it's your call one it

The only issue I have at the moment is I can't score from corners at all. I can't even win the header on an offensive corner although I do pretty well with defensive headers from corners. Is there some trick I'm missing?

the only consistent way to score from corners ive discovered thus far is waiting for a player to position himself at the closest post and then lob the ball to him, he will head it.

I score pretty often on corners. What I do is, that I pres the agrrsion-bar up to red, so I have a lot of men in the box, then i Choose a player that shots with his left foot if I'm at the left side, and right if at the right site.
Then i simply just curve the ball to the man standing at the font post - and he'll then wolley og head the ball to score.

What bothers me is:

* A foul every two seconds

* Short passes are sometimes very inaccurate

* Sometimes when I do a short pass to a player, he will sometimes miss it and then the opponent gets the ball.

I really feel let down by PES5, after playing PES4 to death, seems they have gone backwards to me, now you can't even run into a man without a foul, it gets stupid when the foul count goes something like 2 v 25 even thought your pressing safe tackle they get a foul.

MasterM

for crying out loud, stop complaining about the fouls. Learn the stupid game, in this version holding R1 + X + [] isnt the way too go! Now you actually have to defend by yourself. Why is it that i dont commit a lot of fouls in a game??? Go figure it out. LEARN TO DEFEND!!

In PES5 pushing, or trying to tackle from behind is a foul just as in the real game. It's not that hard to tackle without fouling when you stop holding X down 24/7. Just hold the button down to get you close the the player, then just tap X when you think you can get a foot in.

ie if your behind him then trying to tackle him from behind your going to give a free kick away.

The problems i have is that players are effected too much by the X button, making it far too easily to foul and stop moves before they've begun. for example if your ahead and they start shoving you in the back your brought to a complete stop, whereas in the real world henry would have left him for dust.

I also find that keepers are far too good at shot stopping and one on ones, then only time you can beat them is when they're off balance which means most goals rely on a lucky reboud or defection. when not off balance keepers save 9 out 10 shots most of this is because the keepers are really good at coming off their line and charging down shots. IMO they should make the keepers stay on their line unless told to do so by the player pressing triangle, at least that way there would be some skill involved with saving shots.

Edit: Note all these observations come from playing online.
