The Premiership is a lot of packaging, of course, but there's also some product in there as well.

The fact that an English club won the biggest competition in Europe, the Champions League, not so long ago, suggests that the league isn't exactly phoney.

Perhaps not on par with the Spanish league at the moment, the Premiership does offer exciting football, although I must admit that there are times when the quality is a bit on the low side.

The top clubs can easily compete with all the other top clubs in the continent. Note that I didn't say they are better than the other top clubs.

The fact that the English league were head and shoulders above everyone in the early 80s, which is when a lot of the football watching generation began watching football, means that their league is being followed intensely as well.
