Getting boring here, so here's a new topic. I posted this FIFA 2003 screen on soccered.com (find 2 other of this there) which is found in EA extranet..

Pic is pretty big so click on the link to see it:

You guys see the problem with this?
First, look at Morientes (pointed out by nfsmerc, had to give credit), why on earth is he free..!? Second, Silvestre is on the wrong side of the pitch.. I don't understand why they put up a "f***ed up" 'artwork' in the EA extranet (uk press site)

Hmm... if he is marking morientes what 'bout the huge goal he has to cover? :D

BTW, why on earth is gary neville in the wall when he should be exchanging jobs with van nistelrooy, meaning gary neville marking and van nistelrooy in the wall instead. van nistelrooy marking a player like zidane is suicide :p

Yes, I agree that is suck and in FIFA series, when corner or freekick is taken, all the players stay on the same ground!!
But in real game, the attackers will go away from the marking of the defenders and the defenders will try to get the best position for the attack!!

in that situation, barthez must cover...charge ur goalie towards morientes if a pass or lobb attempt is made to him...

same problem in fifa 2002...just charge the keeper

It doesn't really matter... in that free kick situation, if you'd play the ball to Morientes, Barthez will run out of his 6 yard box and grab the ball every time.

It's a terrible problem in FIFA 2002 where in keeper v striker situations, the keeper always wins... even on crosses.

I know, EA really f*cked that up... I hope that this Free Kick diagram is from an early version before they started making changes.

the guys who stand in the wall, 3 of them are marked with a red squere,
but one is marked with a pink squere.
hmmm... wonder what it is...

maybe that player is selected by the gamer and he can control the jumping of the wall just like in wc 2002.

if i was in that situation, i would do a low, short pass to morientes, then do a first-time shot. Barthez have no chance then. :)

Scholes is as tall as Neville is as tall as Bex is as tall as Veron is as tall as Giggs.

Silvestre and RvN are playing offsides trap  ...they are not goalside of their marks.

Barthez is poorly positioned (Appauling really). But hey, it's Barthez.

Linesman is poorly positioned (you can see his feet). He is standing inline with the 18 yrd box. The ref is also poorly positioned. He is supposed to be near side, cos the lines is supposed to cover far side (ref is supposed to run a diagonal across the field).

You guys didn't really think that EA would make a perfect soccer game would you? You have to remember, this is a game, it would be impossible to mimic every play, move, action that happens in real life into a game. I hear some of you guys saying that this player should be here, and that one there, and that one should be marking him...etc etc. What some of you don't realize, is that to be able to do those things would take:
1) motion capture from a real, live soccer game *as in Man Utd vs Bayern Munich in a CL game.*(which is impossible) to get that genuine feeling.
2) They have to apply that motion capture to every model in the game.
3) They have to orchestrate when that capture animation will come into play so that it will blend into the game(which will take a TON of programming, animation, dynamics. Or else you might have Silvestre running to block an incoming cross when the ball hasn't even left the ground. )
4) A LOT of misc. animations to blend in with the game which will take( TONS of motion capture from real players in a real game(again impossible) and then more programming and dynamics.

Add all that to the tons of leagues, stadiums, and that release date you always hunt them down for, this isn't an easy game to make. Period.

Well man look at PES, WE.... How does konamy do it than? EA does not know how to make a soccer game, they need to analyze more.

Exactly. Konami analyze and then work. EA doesn't know how to do that. They consider a good soccer game to be eyecandy with fancy celebrations and skillful moves.

3-D boy, you make a very good point i agree very greatly.... But when your buyin this game for 50$ or whatever, you want it to be as close to realistic as possible...but your right...would be hard to capture the real live soccer atmosphere....
