that's great man... :) did you use a real pic to base this on?

and i was wondering... do you guys pixelists :p use the dodge and burn tools for shading, or is that generally not accepted among the pixel community?

I used a drawing to base it on

The burn and dodge tools are a big no-no, you gotta do it pixel by pixel man. :crazyboy:

rony31, I don't know about most people, but I use MSpaint.

Yea, I thought so...

but some of the work you guys make (especially the big projects, like Callan) is so detailed it's hard to believe you spend time to do it pixel by pixel  ya know.... all the textures and stuff.... (Y)

callan does his tricks in photoshop. not exactly old school pixel-art, but something that inspires people to learn making things pixel by pixel.

I don't think that MS Paint is the one and only for pixelart. The line tool is good, but there are some major restrictions especially when making big projects.

burn dodge all effects - no, no, no..

I personally accept using pixel textures, since I make some myself for bigger projects. I also accept big brushes and the paint bucket tool (or whatever it is called in different occasions

Good job tom green, that kind of quality can be expected from you! :)

Hehe, yeah... a lot of people said that I like to use my 'own style' of pixel art.

I use photoshop and do a lot of different layes with detail on them, but I try to keep it looking like pixel art.

This new project, with the train and that, was going to be a normal pixel art old school style without all different layers and just doing it, but I cannot stand it, it looks like a cartoon and I just like to have so much detail in it to get it looking like a real life pixel art picture :p if you get me :)

But anyway, that guy that Tom green has postes is awesome :) I think the outline is really thick but it looks awesome :) good work dude! (H)

Yes I use photoshop 7 it has the pencil tool and layers come in very handy as well...

I am trying to think of a name for my style of work, a lot of people will say it isn't pixel art, but it is all done pixel by pixel just layers have differnet opacities and blending options, but its all drawn without antialiasing... and the weird thing is, you make shaddows by turning down the opacity of a shaddow, so why can't you do that to make something look good to? thats the way i see it anyway hehe :) but... hmm

Nah, I don't think it's a special style, I don't think it really matters what you use to make your piece as long as the final result has the 'pixel' look, all the pixel artist I know use different apps and techniques, I always use Mspaint because I hate the photoshop pencil/line tool, but when working on big isometric pieces, it's crucial to use a program that supports layers, since objects overlap and cast shadows, it would be suicide to do all that on Mspaint.
