PES2.. apparently it's going to be seen on GC and PS2 (so i hear. if i'm wrong please tell me)

So I'm left with a decision. Come the summer I plan to buy a PS2 or a GC and PES is the game I'm most expecting to play. I like the look of the GC but it would mean waiting until PES2 to come out. With a PS2 I could get PES now to keep me going.

Those of you who have either console, could you tell me what you think of the system, controller, games etc. Also is the DVD good enough to make the PS2 a better choice?

Thanks

I've only kept my PS2 this long because i NEED my PES/WE6 fix. Now that it's coming out on GC, i'm ditching my PS2. It's good enough i suppose, but apart from GT3, MGS2, GTA3, i think GC is looking a better prospect. Mario Sunshine, Zelda, Metroid, the list goes on.. Get a modded GC, and WE6 the day it comes out in Japan, and an £85 DVD player from Tesco if you feel the need to watch Jenna Loves Briana AGAIN...

I own both. :D

I have an indigo GC with 2 controllers, SSX Tricky, Luigi's Mansion, Wave Race: Blue Storm, All-Star Baseball 2003, and Star Wars Rogue Squadron II. I use S-video.
I have a Ps2 with Gran Turismo 3 and a controller. I'm looking foward to getting another controller and S-video soon as well as a game or so when certain ones come out. I only paid $150 for my ps2 (but this was after paying 150 to someone diffferent on this board for one and I got ripped off :( ).

I think that the price of the GC is too good to refuse.
The GC is soooo quiet, unlike the noisy ps2.
The ps2 may be a little better for sports games at the moment, but not for long.
GC is getting NBA 2k3, NCAA 2k3s, NHL Faceoff 2k3, NFL 2k3, Colin McRae Rally 3, LMA Manager, Club Football, F1 2003, ATV game, Tony Hawk 4, alot.
Also, GC is getting a game called True crimes : Streets of LA (it's also going to ps2) - it's alot like GTA3.
GC has four controller ports.
GC has wireless controllers (in 2 weeks) for $35. (if you wanted you could go on eBay and buy one know for like $150  )

If those reasons didn't convince you, how about Nintendo's e3 showing???? Zelda looks amazing. You can play 2 player with a Game Boy Advance. Also, you might like the Resident Evil series. or Metriod Prime? Whoa there are too many great games. Plus, GTAs might come to GC is 2004-2005, so you'll be entirely set.

Do you need any other reasons to go for the Big N's little box??

Thanks a lot MC. All good reasons :)

I've heard Zelda's amazing but have no experience of it. Is it that good? I'll check the video out a bit later

And I've seen you say WE6 is coming to GC. Is this definite?

Thanks again.

No problem

Yes, Zelda is that good. It is unbelievable. It was my life for a few months when Ocarina of Time came out for N64. This game takes so lsow to beat even with a strategy guide. There are so many mini-games and extra things to do. I remember just sitting around my house riding Link's horse, Epona, in OoT. My first n64 broke and I bought a new one to play this game. Ocarina of Time is the best video game ever.

Zelda likely comes out in February 2003, but it'll be worth the wait. I forgot to pre-order it but I am going to, possibly tomorrow.
There's videos around of the maker, Miyamoto, playing the game for about 2-3 minutes. I have 'em if you like me to put 'em up. The one I already put up is the trailer.

Well, I'm not positive about WE for GC.

It says that KTYO are working on a soccer game for GC.
Could this mean Pro Evo Soccer 2? WE6? WE6.5? WE7?
I'm not sure, but I love to know, and I'm 99.99% sure that we'll have a good GC footy from Tokyo sometime in the future. :D

So you quite like Zelda then :D

its first Gamecube title, the latest in the Winning Eleven series

Well.. it's imported WE6 or a European release as PES2 then. Here's hoping anyway...

The GC has some good games coming out, but out of the 3 consoles it is definately the one with the least releases. It has constant delays (Zelda and Metroid already pushed to next year) so those are my biggest problems with the GC. I prefer the PS2 overall, but I think I might like the GC more than the Xbox.
And the type of games on the GC aren't always my thing, eventhough they're trying to appeal more to older gamers, it still seems to have more games for a younger audience.

[]v[]au, if you take the green "X" out of your avatar it'll look really cool. hehe :D I think that games like Eternal Darkness, Resident Evil and True Crime will help Nintendo out of the kiddie image...

Hmmmm, well the Gamecube is much more powerful than the PS2, that's obvious, apart from a few games the GC is primarily a pre-teen based console. I have played it quite a few times and was not very impressed, the controller is the worst I have ever seen. I know the Xbox controller is huge, but at least it doesn't feel like its going to break. Also has anyone noticed that the GC looks like a handbag? They claim it is meant to save space cause it's small, but its top bloody loading! How can you fit it under a TV with a lid openning up, crazy I tell you.

Now don't get me wrong the GC is a great machine, if your under 12 (except for Resident Evil and games like that). The PS2 is less powerful than the GC and Xbox, but it has WE and PES so that kinda mucks things up. The GC and Xbox are 'probably' getting a version on PES in the near future, according to my contact at KCET.

It's up to you, IMO I don't think the GC is worth it, I mean you can't play DVD's, you can't play music and you can't rip songs on the Hard Drive (oh yeah, it has no Hard Drive). Appart from that by all means get it, it's cheap, but if I were you and I REALLY wanted PES/WE right now then spend a bit more and get a PS2, but if your more patient and want a better overall experience then get an Xbox.

Here are the good bits:
GC- Cheap price
Xbox- Hard Drive
PS2- PES/WE

GameCube has the Best controllers ever...

I am considering buying an Xbox. I mean, I'm a runner. I need to workout. This thing would be great to lift, and now it's price is dropped... :p

If I wanted a hard drive, I would go on my laptop or PC.
If I wanted a DVD player, I would watch a DVD on my Region-Free DVD player.
If I want to play great games (with the best controller ever designed) I would play GameCube.
If I wanted to play a few select games like WE6, I would play my Ps2.

There you have it, the Xbox sucks. :p

I don't want MSFT to win, but the reason I got the Xbox was Halo, just like Resident Evil for the Gamecube.
I cringe to think of the gaming industry in MSFTs control. I just want all 3 to make it (If possible) and Sony's plans for the PS3 sound awesome, not just on the hardware but they are actually going to give developers almost all the money made by software! Now that's an incentive for gamers and developers alike.

I have a ps2 and haven't touched the other 2 consoles but from what I've seen of those two I'd take the GC over the X-Box. The X-Box is going to appeal to techHeads because of it's spec, but other than those people the games are what sells the console and what prompted me to go for the ps2.

Halo on the X-Box, doesn't appeal to me and that's the only game you hear anything about so I've dismissed the option to even give the X-Box a go, yet. I've seen demo's of ISS2 running in the local electronics shop and the graphics don't look all that much better to the GC (which is less powerful) or the ps2 (which is almost 2yrs older) running the same game. The controller looks like you're going to need a wide hand to even reach the buttons. It may feel solid, like it's not going to break, but I wouldn't mind forking out £30 every two years for an ergonomic controller.

The GC looks like a fun console to play but I haven't seen a lot of it. Star Wars Rogue thingy looks good as does the Luigi one, but I've never been a fan of Mario (I'm probably one of the few people that find platformers boring that includes Mario, Sonic, Crash, etc.)

The ps2 has the games that appeal to me more. Devil May Cry, PES, GTA3, GT3, MGS2 and the newly released FFX. The controllers are probably the best designed of any controller I've ever used. I wanted a DVD player too.

To sum up. I'd prefer the ps2 for the games (it's not that expensive now either), but that's personal preference. The GC looks good but the games don't appeal to me (except Star Wars Rogue thingy but I'm not going to fork out £150 for one game), but I would take it over the X-Box, which has absolutely no appeal to me what-so-ever at the moment.

Monkee has pretty much summed it up but here's my 2 cents
Gamecube will have alot of fun games, Mario Kart is close to the best multiplayer game ever(heh the perfectly timed red or green shell when nearing the finish line caused a few brawls with my brother when I was younger :), which will have the unmistakable Nintendo pick up and play gameplay. I don't think the new mario title can live up to the leap in gameplay between the SNES and N64 but if its even close itll be worth having.

As far as the XBOX goes most of its titles are going to be pretty standard PC fare(hopefully Im wrong) and there isnt really anything the XBOX can do that my PC can't..also alot of XBOX titles are being released parallel or a few months before a PC version so there's not alot of interest in this console for me.

PS2 is my choice to play Japanese flavoured games(imports and conversions) which have a completely different feel to US releases...I just cant see games like FFX, ICO, WE etc being created by US companies- they're just too different and the big publishers aren't willing to take too many risks(hopefully theyll learn from GTA3 though)
PS2 is my DVD player also and though Ive read earlier model PS2s had problems playing DVDs I havent had one fail yet.

Anyway a PC and PS2 for me (and Ill see if I can talk my brother into getting a gamecube :) )
