PLF Data – “The way Konami should’ve done it”
Introduction:
As a huge fan of the PES/WE games, one thing always bothered me the most about the series. It wasn’t the unlicensed kits or the fake team names or any other licensing or gameplay issues, it was THE DATA.
I have a saying that goes like this: “The less you know, the less you notice and the less it bothers you”. I don’t need to tell many of you about my level of football knowledge and it’s better If I don’t because surely by me saying the words, It will sound cocky but I noticed wrong data everywhere while playing.
It was in position of players, their injury-tolerance, abilities, special stars, apperance, foot, consistency/conditioning of players, hell even factual things like their height/weight/nationality and even age and skin colour!!!!
It bothered me to a great deal to see all these things wrong in cases of many players throughout the database. To have C. Lucarelli, Ugur Yildirim, Delron Buckley and some of the best FK takers in the world be given 50-60 stats for FK stats. This is just ONE example of ONE wrong stat, there is 10000 million to mention and if I were to do it, this introduction would never end. Things like this aren’t like graphics, they effectively impact gameplay and that is why a good database has always been a top priority for me and one that ultimately determines how much satisfaction I’ll get out of my game.
To cut a long story short. I’ve gone through every player in the database and have corrected all those things that Konami got wrong to the best of my knowledge. It’s much easier to say this sentence right now as it takes 5 secs but it can not describe how hard I’ve worked and how many hours I have put in this to make PLF finally be satisfied with the data and start real master-league this time without getting turned off by wrong stats, lack of up to date squads and unrealistic/inabalnced formations.
We’ll now look at main features of PLF data:
New Created Players:
So the game has been out for a while and it’s not exactly Konami’s fault that many players at your fav clubs have broken through from reserve team or been bought and are not in database yet play a vital or active role for your clubs now and are a member of senior squad.
I’ve created over 130 players I think.. haven’t counted to be honest but I’ve provided the lists so if somebody wants to count and give me the number, I’ll post it here
Here’s links to list and info on each player created for each league:
Germany - Bundesliga
France – Ligue 1
Spain – La Liga

Injury Tolerance:
I found for most part, Konami did alright in this for the BIGGER clubs. Yet as soon as you walk outside the top teams you’ll notice teams with nobody with a B or C injury. Everybody in certain squads have A. Now every team in real life has at least a few injury prone players, if not horribly injury prone at least semi and only reason those teams got ALL A is because just like abilities and others stuff for those players, Konami did not want to waste time researching who’s quite injury prone in there. So as I went through every player in database.. I’ve changed thousands from A to B that needed it and a few that harshly had gotten a C despite not being injury prone not like the likes of Woodgate and much less injured.
Special Stars:
One of the worst researched parts of the game, I just don’t understand. Found over 20-30 tall target men in the game who had “Side” special stars and no they were not skilled players on sides, these were men like Duncan Ferguson of Everton. Obviously lots of other special stars wrongly assigned as well or forgotten but now they’re all fixed.
Here’s one example of the stupid assigning of special stars to a world class striker like Claudio Pizzaro of world stature and who plays for a club like Bayern. Imagine how poorly the lower teams are researched.
Don’t mind the picture since that’s not his face but just look at the accuracy of stars
Height/Weight/Age/Nationality:
Throughtout my many years of playing I notice data mistakes even such as these which are not subjective. Whether your striker is 185cm in game or 175cm will make a huge difference to the way you play and how useful he is just like in real life. Throughout my 8 weeks of editing, I must have corrected at least 300 heights in game. About 4-5 ages and 40-50 nationalities.
One fresh in my head still is Goran Sablic of Kiev who’s Croatian yet shows as Ukranian in game. A good high-profile example of wrong height of course would be “Louis Saha”. He’s 10cm short in game. Trust me it sucks having to do a ML where you think your pacey striker is 178cm then later on find out he should actually be 188cm and a real deal package with both height and speed 
If you want a small list of a few of these mistakes, follow this link:
http://www.pesfan.com/bulletin/showthread.php?t=50315&page=6&pp=15
I started that thread long time ago to let people know about some of the data mistakes I found in game such as these and for them to help me maybe find more but due to lack of interest eventually stopped and posted there rarely with one or two I remembered out of the 10-20 I had done ealier in the day
Apperances:
Yeah sure Konami have made great special faces for those world-class famous players in game but is it enough?? My thoughts are no.. I don’t need lookalikes in game but I do want players of all teams to at least have same haircolour/skin colour and perferably same hairstyle as in real life (Yes I know they change but they should do it with what player currently has). Well a quick browse through the game will let you know that, this is not how Konami thinks. Their thoughts are that we make Man Utd, Real Madrid and Juventus fans happy by giving even bench players their own special face while not caring one bit about closeness of other teams/players.
It was easy for me to spot so many easy apperance mistakes and fix them. Two especially big mistakes by Konami regarding this was that they just ASSUMED that All dutch players if not famous in dutch teams have Blonde hair. This made my job of going through every Dutch league player for example and fixing stats much harder because now I had to also do their apperances. There are many Dark-haired Dutch/Belgians who play in that league yet all were blindly given BLONDE hair. It was a pain in the ass to fix.
Now I’m not one to care about if players have same nose and lip types as in real life but I do want my players to have at least same hairstyle/colour and facial hair. It adds a lot to differentiation of player looks instead of everyone in a whole team being blonde, fully shaven and same short hairstyle for example and makes game more realistic as well as more fun to play as no matter what team you pick now has playrs of all sorts of hairstyle and facial hair and colour like in real life.
Lastly there are even BIGGER apperance mistakes as we have a number of people with wrong skin colour. I’ve fixed about 30 of these.. I’m just throwing an approx number here.. 2 off the top of my head right now are
Mikael Marquet (Ajaccio Striker)
Bakari Sagne (Auxurre defender). These 2 are both black but white in game.
Rob Earnshaw and Nigel Quashie are both black instead of brown (3rd skin)
Here’s an example:
http://xs.to/xs.php?h=xs34&d=05256&...iISNOTWHITE.JPG
Now here’s another example this time not wrong skin but hair colour and style as well as stats of course of Joao Moutinho with the blonde thing I talked about earlier:
here's a picture of Joao Moutinho, in real life.
http://www.zerozero.pt/img/jogadores/7608_jogador.jpg
And here's what his stats and apperance were like in the game.

here's Joao Moutinho in my data:
http://xs.to/xs.php?h=xs34&d=05256&f=Moutinho_now.JPG
Abilities:
Easily most important part of this data update and all the wrong stats there is of course the main reason that motivated me to do all this. The whole point is players should be rated individiaully by their own performance.. not by the TEAM they're in.
If it was rated like it is here in this file, then you'd never see those stupid threads saying , "Has anybody got updated stats for Player X" :lmao: upon player X's movement to a big club like Inter or Real.
That player's ability did not increase suddenly upon signing contract and had he been rated individually there's be no need for an update.
“I'd hate to start a game with a team only to find out that right back who is VERY two-footed like Nedved in game has been given a lousy 4 just because Konami does NOT do each player by his own like I DID going through 1000000 players.. omg i'm getting sick of editing has taken me 6 weeks I need a ******* break lol.
Again I'd hate to pick Livorno and get a FK in a promising position only to find out Mr. Lucarelli one of Serie A's best takers and in fact strikers has been given a 55 for FK accuracy.
Sure some data are SUBJECTIVE.. whether Nedved's shot accuracy for example should be 90 or 88 can be debateable but MANY things in data are NOT subjective. The fact that over 100 players have wrong height/weight, wrong FOOT. Do you have ANY idea how many left-defenders I've found in game who play SB in game but are RIGHT-footed?????
These are not subjective. Neither is many stats like weak foot accuracy and FK accuracy.
Also is it right that every U19 player has been given a consistency/conditioning of 4 or 3!!?? These stats will NEVER improve. IT's not fair that in 10 years in ML.. there won't be a CONSISTENT player.
They all have been given standard 5 that you should get in my data except the ones who have proven either CONSISTENT or NOT consistent and trust me there is a lot of them because I know PLAYER by PLAYEr what they're good at.”

If you want to read further on it.
Also is it right that lower teams have even instrumental players like their captains with 60’s teamwork and mentality? What you don’t get is that Konami did not want to put time that I did into fixing stats so they decided to differntiate Man Utd from AZ alkmaar not by giving correct stats to each player but by giving lower teams CRAP stats in basically everything. Leaving many teams with NOT A single good FK taker or good mentality/teamwork. If anything those weaker teams that often do well is not due to better skill but better determination and teamwork. Yet Konami chose the easy way out and handed everybody at a weaker club basically 60-70’s for those 2 stats as well. Well that ain’t speciazliing.. perfect example is NEIL LENNON, he was given 68 and 65 I think. 1000 more but I wont name… just trust this thing. Nothing this complete has ever been done or I would have picked it up without spending all this time myself and getting behind in studies.
Formations/Kick takers/Captains/Lineups:
Alright have pointed this out in MANY posts if you read throughout the thread but basically formations have been changed from ridiculous Konami ones that come packed with 1 or 2 arrows on every single player it seems making teams more inbalanced and easier to defeat and tiring your own team out and making sure you HAVe to go to formation screen before starting every match.
well no more.. they’re correct like in real life of course not perfect because formations aren’t carved in stone much like lineups and change quite a bit but they reflect real life.
Line ups have been updated. It may not be important in ML as CPU picks best players for those positions but it is important for many who play league and exhibitions. You don’t want ot be facing a team with star player wrongly put on bench due to your option file or original Konami data that you’re using.
Also FK taker, CK taker is very important. Often I found they had wrong player on it and this means when CPU could come back from a nice opportunity from FK but they have a guy with low stats set to it when they have a specialist in their team is sad. All of those and captains and PK takers as well as formation and line ups fixed then.
If you want to read more into it, look here and my posts on it around the thread:
http://forums.evo-web.co.uk/showpost.php?p=456987&postcount=90
A little Extra Feature:
Well apart from going through every single club/team and player and fixing every single thing, here’s also a little something extra:
This is a copy and paste from an answer I gave to Nick Cave regarding this Data when he asked if japanese names would pop up in ML after a few seasons:
“Yes there will NOT be ANY players with Japanese names coming up. Every player including the Fake youngsters that will appear after a season or two in ML have all been translated but I also changed them around a bit. It's just one of those things I forgot to mention.
Originally the number of youngsters that will come after a season or two in mL is like 80-90 lets say but 35 are Japanese and Korean maybe even a bigger percentage while some countries like Swiss and Iran have ONE player. Very unrealistic but hey it's a Japanese game.. they've done evreything they can to feel more suprior about themselves.
Not only that, I didn't see the right BALANCE in the players coming for example too many SMALL forwards compared to hte occasional tall CF with good balance and strength.
I changed names and nationalities around a bit to make more balanced, and put a couple of real youngsters like Japan's Moramito in there instead of a fake Japanese.
Will it be 05/06 SEason??
Okay I get this asked a lot and answer is no. I don't think it should and here are my reasons: most agree with anyways and if thats what you want there's plenty of other good option files for new season and reefur's upcoming patch has them too i dont because this:
http://forums.evo-web.co.uk/showpost.php?p=460787&postcount=65
Plus we never got to play 04/05 season with PROPER stats where if you needed Real madrid to lose.. they would lose because now the Albacete team they face has some CAPABLE players like in real life not like before. So i want to relive moments of 04/05 season again and this time the realistic way with good stats. Not to mention doing 05/06 leaves a lot incomplete and there's good reasons for that.. just read the link.
IT's also easy to update your game with transfers in edit mode anyways.

woohh.. if u read this far, I congratulate you. You now know roughly what PLF data changes and you can see there has been as much effort put in this as it goes into a PATCH.
Aight that's straight off, Evo-web from my first post in that thread.
Read there still if you want to see more replies and stuff here's link, if not i'll still try to check on this and get it updated and answer questions.

Now here’s another example this time not wrong skin but hair colour and style as well as stats of course of Joao Moutinho with the blonde thing I talked about earlier:
here's a picture of Joao Moutinho, in real life.

And here's what his stats and apperance were like in the game.

here's Joao Moutinho in my data:
