plyometrics

I don't have any links sorry, but it is basically training with jumping and other things to improve your leap and your explosiveness in running. It also helps with agility.

You have to be careful of how you're going about it though, because it can give you knee problems and shin problems down the road.

Plyometrics is aimed at linking strength with speed of movement to produce power. Plyometric workouts tend to be more effective than weight training alone because plyometrics focus not only on developing the strength but on velocity as well, which weight training fails to do.

By stretching a muscle tightly and then quickly contracting it, plyometric exercises enable a muscle to reach maximum strength in as short of time as possible. The aim of plyometric training is to train the body's fast twitch muscle fibers so that they can load (stretch) more quickly, and in turn, unload more quickly to produce more power. In terms of basic muscular physiology, a pre-stretched, or loaded, muscle is capable of generating more force than an un-stretched muscle. Plyometric exercises "teach" muscles to respond more quickly and powerfully.

Plyometrics also develop the whole neuromuscular system for power movements, not merely the muscle tissue alone. By performing regular plyometric workouts, neural pathways and muscle fiber recruitment are improved over time.

As for exercises, this site has 32:

A word of warning tho, these exercises load and unload your muscles quickly so make sure to do a proper warmup before attempting them otherwise you'll end up straining something.

Also your legs should already be VERY strong before you attempt plyo; I heard that you should be able to squat at the minimum 1.5 times your body weight consistently. If you just play soccer, don't even worry about this stuff, in fact unless you're a basketball player, it is just unnecessary.

That's great, but it's not plyometrics, it's stair climbing. Plyometrics = quick jumping. If you're hopping up the stairs.... seems pointless. How many headers do you miss by not having a 30 inch vert?
