I don't know what Marcelo Balboa was smoking, Eddie Lewis was solid throughout, not just in the second half. I wasn't sure before this game, but now I think we may have found our left back for the World Cup.

Player grades:

Keller - 7 (did what he needed to do when he was called upon)

Lewis - 8.5 (intercepted pretty much every pass that came down his way, stepped up to break up Poland's attacks, showed good athleticism and a smooth touch)
Berhalter - 6.5 (did alright, but I still think he's too slow at this level)
Onyewu - 8.5 (was a beast, as usual)
Cherundolo - 8.5 (a real solid game on both sides of the ball, nearly scored on a free kick)

Zavagnin - 5.5 (did not really assert himself on the game, part of the passing problem in midfield in the first half)
Beasley - 5.5 (da Bease has to be looking over his shoulder for Convey at this point)
Dempsey - 7 (aside from the goal, he didn't create much, but that was because the Poles were continously sending him to the turf)
Donovan - 7.5 (his touch and his vision were on a different level than anyone on the field for the US today)

Johnson - 5.5 (ineffective; needs to hustle and show more effort in games like these)
Twellman - 6 (showed more effort but was also ineffective, except for getting a rather lucky assist on Dempsey's goal)

Howard - 7 (had some opportunities to spill the ball into the feet of a Polish player, but didn't)
Bocanegra - 7 (mostly solid, but picked up a silly yellow card)
Mastroeni - 7 (our midfield looked much better with him as our defensive mid)
Convey - 7 (much more dangerous than Beasley on the left flank)

I don't like the sound of things if Bobby Convey is even remotely close to surpassing DMB on the depth chart.

Convey is having a great season for Reading, and Reading have been phenomenal in the Championship. He's really a quality player and it's good that Beasley will have some competition.

Don't forget that our players defensed well and that it was Cherundolo who sent in a cross from the left wing to set up the goal.

Dave O'Brien is poor, and Balboa isn't much better.

He did absolutely nothing against Mexico yesterday.


The U.S. should have no problem running over these guys on WC.
