last season Porto bought the next Pele, this season they buy the Ronaldinho Gaucho. At least they're going backwards :boohoo:

no matter what you can not have great players on your team without taking a risk. whenever u buy a player like Diego, Fabiano, Anderson, your taking a risk. Diego risk will become a reality and he'll be big, Fabiano was a bust, but once again your risking yourself to look bad when you take a risk of any kind. Don't even come takling about how benfica is doing teh right thing by bringing up youth players. Cuz that's also a risk. Nobody knows how these youngsters will play like. And i read somewhere a long time about the costs of bringing up a youth player. IT"S COSTLY and you wouldn't believe the cost.

you must include training, a place to stay if needed, school, a pay check every month, coaching, travel, etc...

so to conclude, even though there is a good chance that these players won't be the next pele, ronaldinho, maradona,it's a risk that is being taken. What if Milan didn't take a risk in signing Kaka, PSG in signing Ronaldinho, PSV in signing Ronaldo....

This whole "next..." title puts too much pressure on player IMO. As if playing well didn't have enough pressure attached to it, now you have to emulate what some other legend did.

Fact is Porto spent a river of cash and the only player they bought who is proven and can get a place at the team is Lucho. I wouldn't mind having your money at Benfica but I'd certainly mind wasting it like you guys have been doing for the last 2 years

even as a porto fan i'll have to agree with you...i'm gettin sick of hearing everyday 'and porto signed a new brasilian..', 'and the brasilian star was signed by porto..', 'porto just signed the rio de janeiro samba school...damn, but anyway, i'm lokkin forward to see lucho, diego and ibson next season..and i hope we sign a good striker..and someone to bring more strenght to the defence...otherwiser, i've said it, i'd dismiss every single player who we signed last season, except for diego and ibson..

Lol thats because he has been ruined at Manchester Utd (due to coach decisions and injuries) His time at Porto he was pretty much a carbon copy of Ronaldinho IMO

You guys know what I meant...ruined in the sense he wont be a Ronaldinho type of footballer. Ruined was the wrong word to use I guess. He is a different kind of footballer...maybe even for the better he is more complete in a sense as he tracks backs and defends

im not dumb I know he has won some trophies and stuff, but he has had a small role in many of those (mainly due to injuries) and having to adapt to a new position

Lol was pulling your leg a little bit. I did not watch him for Porto so I can't tell if he was the Ronaldinho type but he never showed signs of that even when playing as an attacking modfielder in a 3 midfield formation for United.

He had a semi-free role at porto, played everyone across the attacking mid (left, right, centre) opponents never new where he would show up. Shame he couldn't have played more games, if it wasn't a broken leg on a very bad and late tackle from Katsouranis (i sure it was him). i feel us Porto fans really missed out on seeing this kid play at the top of his game. Injuries have really hurt the kid so much. There was no doubt at the time when you purchased Nani and Anderson who the better player was.
