Recently, I have been overly obsessed with the grunge brush stuff. Well, do you think this piece is grungy? I aint done yet though, the teacher said to "integrate your name" but damn dunno where to put it.. any suggestions? and planning to put another animal with the beaver, preferably Chinese (since itz Canadian Int. School of Hong Kong thoguht I'd how one from both nations). Originally I wanted to put a Cougar but I couldn't find any free stock photos of them (cuz teacher said we can't just use pics of the net, school doesnt wanna get sued or watever). Loads of Panda pics but lol wasn't sure what to put int he respect bit...

so what do u guys think generally?

I dunno if that's really grunge anymore, atleast not the pic+brushes type. If you were aiming at being grungy anyway.. the point being, artistically it's way better than the instant grunge, as in the matter of technique, but since it's for school and you want to grunge it, adding a mass of brushes might impress your teacher, who prolly won't realise.. :P

the colors are original and they fit to the subject well, and there's the wolves color as well.

I can't say I like how stroke has been used at the animals and the font is something in between microsoft standards and a good font for the purpose.

If you wan't to get a better touch to it, try removing the borders around the animals, since they spoil the overall look if you ask me.

Just wanted to be constructive and helpful, not to flame for anything. Im not someone who can't take critisism or any words against. :)

Well, thanks for the suggestions. No I wasn't aiming for a grunging look infact quite the opposite tried to avoid it cuz I was using it too much lol. As for the stroke thingy, I dunno I tried to make it as though those photos were cut out from a magazine or something. Any font you'd like to recommend?

hmm, not really. It depends quite alot on the actual aim.
maybe styling the current font like on that Edward Wong text wouldn't hurt. The high variety of text sizes is mostly used in grungy things, since it reminds many of the traditional punk lettering. oh, well, that could be one concept here, especially since you said that the borders around the animals were meant to look like they were cut off a mag.

If you were actually aiming for something techy, or plain, maybe you should go through your current set of fonts. Good plain fonts often cost alot, but they are easily found on some very cheap Corel clip-art cds.

try to see how it looks without the borders around the animals.

I got carried on once again.. :)

darn, I am tempted to grunge up the background. Add some of those insta-grunge brushes, or does ti look better just plain?

your teacher will love the insta-grunge, trust me. :hump:

or then he/she says, "why is the paper so dirty?" or "quite a bad photocopy :/ "

holy **** the latest one is hard on the eyes. It'd look horrifying as a print, unless you got some professional printers with glossy paper at school. :p

I think that the stroke looks bad dude, maybe if you just grabbed the image of the beaver for example and turned it all black, so it just looks like a shape... Here is how I would do it: Make the beaver a separate layer---go to Crt+H (Hue/Saturation) turn the lightness all the way until its black, this is in Photoshop of course...you are certainly not forced to take my advice in any way though...:)
