In the past I have been an avid defender of the PES style of gameplay when arguing with people. But after todays experiment I'm just seriously peed off with this game and the way it has turned out since PES (1).

Playing master league I am up against Aston Villa and despite my team all having high spirits and no injuries they are playing like a bunch of girls. (Something else I have allways defended highly is the enthusiasm factor - but this isn't my problem here).

But never mind because I still manage to go up 2-0 at a half time. In the second half the ref turns against me where every bump and tackle is a regarded as a foul and I end up with 4 yellows and 2 reds. This is a record for me as I usually get no cards at all!

Of course by the end of the game I'm 4-2 down. F**ck this I think and decide to cheat, I don't mind losing by my own bad playing (or even by the girly playing factor). But I object to losing from the ref just basically penalising me for winning at half time.

So I start again, this time im winning 1-0 at half time, in 2nd half I get 1 red, 3 yellows, and i'm 3-1 down at the end. Re-load again!

3rd game. Winning 3-0 at half time! In the 2nd half I get 2 reds and no yellows. I also had to watch my star player (Salas) get chopped nastily by the defender as he is clear on goal, and had to be taken off injured. But no cards for the defender oh-no.

4th Game, 1-0 at half time and I've allready had 2 players sent off when the game decided to crash to the desktop (latest patch installed).

WTF is going on? I'm not even commiting tackles using the slide! It seems that whatever happens I'm going to be losing players during this game. This isn't right, and it definately isn't fun.

Hmmm... do you use sliding-tackles or only the ones when using X ? Or both?
Tell us more about the way you defend; makes it easier to give a sensible comment.....

Odd, into my 3rd season without a red card now. CPU gets a red every few games.
I have noticed some refs are more leniant than others, its probably the most strict ref you are getting in that particular game.

Dude ,you have nothing to complain about.
The ref is usually on the CPU's side but that's what makes the game harder.The ref is on your side when you play at home(not always tho).
But still ,I play on 5* ,and I have no problems with cards.I get a card now and then but that's rare and has no affect on my game.
The CPU gets booked more often than I do.Pure skill.You probably don't know how to tackle properly.Either bad timing or you just don't have any luck.

One other thing - you said players play like girls.No wonder ,it's the default ML team.They're meant to be slower and weaker than the opponent.Tho I have no complaints since I've mastered the game and their weak sides don't bother me.

You'll come around eventually.

Just don't cheat or blame the game.It's your fault.The ref is against you but no one's forcing you to make that tackle.
The ref is usually against me as well and I get over it.
And still win.

I can win almost all the time with good teams like Man utd and Real madrid but I can hardly win at all with any team that doesent have atleast 5-6 star players. How do i win with the crappy teams? When playing with those teams the AI seems to score goals out of nowhere like a long pass or cross that I had little chance to defend against.

I think it isn't the team I play with, but the Formation.

I use the 4-4-2 of Australia. Perfect, just try it, you will rip apart the left wing with Chipperfield :)

I think the post about not cheating says it really! If I had simply accepted it and moved on I wouldn't have noticed this wierd behaviour.

I use central attack and counter attack with any team.....very bloody effective coz you will have a lot of options in the opposition box!

this is a classic case of, you arent playing well
pick ur balls up off the floor and be patient when u defend
the cpu intends to beat you so you must show some fuc king patience when u defend, not slide in like an idiot

funny u should mention this

jus finished a game for wefa champions league qualifiers

last match of qualifiers..... every slight bump from me is foul

the comp players can practice kicks on my players legs... but the game goes on!

ofcourse, i lost 3-0

could dismiss it off as an away game disadvantage... but this was wayyyy too much!

but on the brighter side... this was the one n only time iv seen such a biased refree after sm 150-200 games

normally, i get good calls in home games

so if ur playin away games... mind ur tackle

if ur playin home game, try to run past defenders, ull end up with 1-2 man advatage by second haff!

(n no! i didnt restart the game! if id won the group, i would b in a group with real n inter, who wants that???)

n just cuz u hav a comfortable lead... dont start running around thinkin u r pele

remember wat happened to juve in 1999 champions league semi final 2nd leg?

Now this is what I was talking about! I don't know how many people actually read my post fully, but I *do* know how to play this game (look where I said that I hardly ever pick up cards anymore).

I think that sometimes different factors in the game conspire against you, like any game with hundreds of different types of factors every now and again the AI of the game goes a little haywire.

I finally conceded that game and I've played loads more with no other things like that going on.

Btw - the only time I use slide is when I know I'm going to get away with it, or when I want to commit a professional foul!

Who said anything about the cpu cheating?

Honestly, I reckon that most people only read a threads topic and reply in reference to that.

Do you honestly think that a game as complex as PES isn't going to reach states where different factors conspire to create wierd and wonderfull moments?

I read that as "I decided to cheat to counter-act the CPU cheating me out of victories"
sorry if i minterpreted it, but I asumed u were accusing the cpu of fixing (cheating?) these games so that you lose.

Computer cheats likes mad to stay competitive... if you say otherwise you are either not playing the same game or completely blind or just plain ignorant.

Mind you I am still winning but I am starting to get bored with the game. I have Kiev players with 3 ratings above 80 running circles around my top defenders (like Nesta) because I am leading the league.

Last season I didn't have that problem since I had an inferior team and was placed 8th but as soon as your team gets too good for the computer the cheating ensues. It was also obvious during the years where my team grew better in D2. When I got top of the league with 8 played 8 wins and NO (!!) goals against the computer turned into CHEAT MODE and I didn't win any of my remaining 6 matches (still became champions though and didn't lose single point in the play-offs, weird huh? :rolleyes: ).

It's probably challenging if you don't mind it... I just think it's annoying and boring as it doesn't represent a challenge what-so-ever to me. The computer decides no pass/dribble of you will succeed to become more 'competitive'.

Maybe it's just ML though, not played cups/leagues on anything above 3* yet (3* = no/very little cheating, 4* it really begins) so if that's the case I might revert to just playing cups/leagues and just ignore the rampant cheating that is going on in my ML game.

If not I will wait for online play in PES4 and enjoy human vs human matches :)

If you don't want to call it cheating call it "cpu assist" (like you saw in old EA games as a feature you can actually turn OFF). Because that is what it is exactly.

I guess it's all about mastering the game.
I think I could be considered a WE 2002 (for PS1) Jedi Master; I can play an unlimited number of seasons with the original ML players and still win every league, with a couple to none games lost per league. I'm also good against other very good friends.
When I bought PES3, however, I had to start playing in 3* to be able to win a game with the original ML team. Now, I'm playing in 5*, I have a team full of good players and 3 or 4 star players and I've won 3 D1 tournaments, 3 D1 cups and 2 WEFA championships, all in a row, so I guess now I'm a decent player (a Jedi apprentice, I suppose).
The point is, having played all this time, I've noticed a few minor annoying bugs in the game, as well as this CPU conspiracy you've been talking about; but I still believe that if we were REALLY good none of this would bother us. I mean, CPU has been conspiring against the honest, honorable players (that's us, hehe) since the very first versions of WE and PES, and by the time we master the game that doesn't get in our way anymore, does it?
