I barely watched this tournie, much less with sound on, but I didn't notice anything very annoying. Not the first time I hear horns like that in a game, and I wouldn't mind them in the WC.

Honestly, the snare drums I keep hearing in Mestalla are much more annoying.

The only thing i find annoying about the vuvuzelas is the constant bitching and whining about them. And it really just shows how ******* ignorant about the world game some football fans are.

Italy vs Brazil - World Cup, Spain 1982:

I guess there was no atmosphere at that game, right? All the Spaniards, Italians and Brazilians clearly have no idea how a football match should be watched!

It is time for an African World Cup, it might be different from a European, South American or Asian World Cup, but that's the point, not to make it the same, but to make it unique. The vuvuzela is unique, and distinctly (South) African. But, it obviously can be toned down, a bit. The choice between rich, vibrant African sounds (vuvuzela, drums and trumpets), and vulgar songs that we hear across the terraces of europe (racist chants) is an easy one.

And, the World Cup is a global party, with people from all over the planet, and in the middle of all this, a bit of local flavour is important.

True. It got popularized only after the Confed Cup. The same may happen after the WC too, can't it? People will probably get used to this, and some may even start liking this.
We may even see Vuvuzelas in Old Trafford or the Camp Nou too later on. But, that will be too far fetched. :P

I still can't ******* believe FIFA is allowing these things at the World Cup. For South Africa games, fine, whatever, but for every game? UGH!

So if they got popularized only after the Confederation Cup then there would be no backlash dude to history/tradition if are were banned. Great.

They are annoying, like some one said it doesn't matter what is happening on the pitch, they are constantly blown. It's just a constant, annoying background sound. Instead of the vuvuzelas how about having a fart noise consistently going in the background.

I'm not a fan of the constant drone either ... but if that's what fans attending want, then that's what they want ... democracy can be a _____ ...

This has nothing to do with democracy. Fans can and do get banned and kicked out of stadiums for doing all kinds of legal things. There's absolutely no reason why this ******* annoying buzzing bull**** has to annoy the entire world because a bunch of dip****s would rather blow a plastic trumpet than watch the game they paid a ton of money for.

I somehow find better the vuvuzelas than the constant calling for the mosque/incantations/whatever from the Gulf-zone matches.

Spain has a a similar sounding drone/vuvuzela type thing going on, but surely because it is Spain nobody cares.....It reeks of bigotry when people are adamant about the whole vuvuzela thing.

I dont really like it either but whatever it aint going to ruin the world cup, I can assure you that, its fine, I can live with it

Stop whining like bitches. If you don't like the sound just put the volume off. As simple as that.

Yeah, I'm going to turn the volume off for the ******* World Cup. Give me a break.

I think you guys are making a BIG fuss out of it. Who gives a **** about the crowd sound? I personally don't care. To me the football on the pitch matters most. Just ajust the volume such that you can hear only the commentary if you can't stand Vuvuzelas.

and how does one do that when the commentary and noise is coming from the same speakers, been fed thru the same station??
