Q&A: Fifa2003

lol, I love the part where he says "the majority of our audience are going to be Man United fans" :D Was there a poll or something I wasn't aware of? Gimme a break..

He also criticizes Pro Evolution Soccer....that takes some nerve, considering he works for a company that hasn't produced a decent football game since 98

There's a long way to go to get it exactly right, and I also think that sometimes you have to make certain compromises because you're in a game space and you've got a controller which compared to a human is very limited. In Pro Evolution you've only got eight directions you can run in, and that's not football. As we go forwards and get more animations, and a better control method, the product becomes more realistic. It just takes time and a lot of resources to create real football.

of course,u can only run in 8 directions while running really quick...in real life u cant just run really fast and suddenly change directions,u would lose your balance, especially if u are kicking the ball forward(like roberto carlos does in PES)the running system is just perfect in PES..what a stupid dumbfark this guy is..of course,he had to be from EA

Thanks a lot, Francis! :)

Well, I liked this part:
I think for the team, and me, the most important thing is that the direction we're going in feels like football. Maybe previously we lost sight of that a little bit. It was like, 'let's get a crazy skill move we can put on the back of the pack.' I've seen it once in a game of football, but it's in there and it happens all the time. It's great the first few times, but you don't get overhead kicks in every game. People loved FIFA, and they loved playing it, but they ended up having to make their own rules up. We're only a fraction of the way there now, it could keep going for another ten years and we still won't be where real football is. We'll be closer, and it will look like football, but it's always going to be difficult to represent it perfectly.

ME

I am afraid I have to agree with him, I watch and play real football in real life (and am damn good now!!) and I can move and I see players move all over the place, more then 8 directions, I know that PES does this to make it harder to re-create the whole experience, but if EA can make it real free, yet hard to control, then surely that will be a better re-creation in the running???

PES is brilliant, sensational, but even I think one of the things that lets it down is the freedom that you're given, it is too tight for me.

This is IMO anyway, you might think otherwise, but for me I think the freedom in FIFA 2002 is great, yet it is just to easy control.

He also said that you have to pass now, you cannot run past players, this sounds very good, but knowing our look we'll find a way to get passed the dumb a*s defenders all the time!! :(

Well, in Fifa, you can run in 16 directions...the only drawback is that you can only pass in 4 and score in 2, lol :D

Thats a true indication on how poor FIFA2003, this guy is a dumbass.

And he goes on about shooting system, how not one single game got that right otherwise everyone would copy. Well didnt they copy the powerbar from Konami?

Anyway I still think FIFA2003 will be a good step in the right direction. As long everything they say do come true
