Question of the Week: Who are the Most Talented Wingers Not Playing for a Big Club?

Xifio

The Von Trapps
not going through official means for this QotW, but I was curious what names and reasons people would come up with ...

with PSG possibly offloading Lavezzi and Cavani, they'll be after replacements ... instead of merely looking at who they could target, I'm wondering if there is a general consensus on who the most talented wingers are in the world today who aren't playing for a big club? (not just pure wingers, as that is arguably a dying breed, but any forward comfortable on the flank ...)

Starting XI
Depay!! Also Cuadrado and Gaitán could do better. Not saying that Fiorentina and Benfica are small clubs, but they're not exactly crème de la crème either.

Definitely Carlos Vela. Also Muniain, although i haven't heard much about the guy recently, but from what i've seen in the past he's pretty talented. Hmmm and Kevin Volland? ;o Those were the first names that popped up in my head.

Everton Ribeiro, Bernard as well.

Nacer Chadli is having a good season if you don't count Spurs, as with Sadio Mane + Jay Rodriguez

Depay without a doubt is the next big thing on the wing. Bernard perhaps and Brahimi are others that need to be mentioned. Others I'd include are Gervinho, Candreva, Schurrle (at a big club, but can probably be had), and El Sharaaway. Most of those guys play on the left, but presumably the right wing at PSG is reserved for Lucas.

What is the definition of a big or small club? Are Serie A teams considered as small clubs?

Exactly, Porto and Benfica won more domestic and European trophies than Chelsea, City and Arsenal ... do we consider a club as "big" based on their current form and financial resources or based on their background and fan base ... Flamengo has most fans in Brazil, but they didn't win much trophies in recent years ...

If a casual fan of the sport knows a lot about the club it counts as a big club. America, Benfica, Celtic, Flamengo, Porto, ect. are all "big" in my view. Even Chivas is big even though they fucking suck now. They aren't superclubs like your Man Utds and Real Madrids, but they're big.

Casual (euro) fans don't know America or Flamengo. Benfica and Celtic are also borderline and acquainted non-fans (like people who might watch the CL final and the clasico but not much else) might not even know about Porto.

Hahaha, no fucking way. Most casual fans have no idea who any of those clubs are. Only the super clubs are known by casuals, at least in the USA. Go to downtown Charlotte and ask 100 people to name ANY club in the Brazilian league, and do you think a single person would be able to name a single one? I submit that no one could, and certainly no one would list Flamengo (if you did find a soccer fan it would probably be Santos).

Hahahaha

Most people will say big clubs are mostly from the bigger leagues, not necessarily leagues who have got a great fan following.

that has nothing to do with clubs being big or not.. if they can't name single one like you claimed, which I highly doubt, it's because they're fucking burger munching ignorant fucktards..

I don't know about you but I don't view my unnecessarily extensive knowledge of sports something I should feel superior about.

For not being able to name irrelevant Brazilian clubs? I honestly want you to attempt this in your hometown and tell me how many people are such burger munching fucktards. Half will presumably be women, a quarter at least won't follow the sport at all, at least an eighth will be casuals who have no idea, which leaves you with 13/100 at absolute best. I suggested doing it in Charlotte, because that is where Bobby is from, so now we're down to much less of American soccer fans who are more than casual fans and would know. Unlike your shithole country we have several other popular sports that take up the national attention.

We don't eat burgers, we eat pork.

So there.

He's probably right re: Flamengo. Though I'd argue Celtic and Benfica are pretty well known here (though that has to do with our banking industry attracting foreign workers).

ha! did I brag about my people's knowledge of football? why are you instantly getting into a comparison mindset? and 13/100, you're pretty specific there, you chose 13 so that it doesn't look like you're making that up, right... if you're referring to 1/8, why not 12 then (H)

there's no way of arguing the fact that the US is far more superior to my country, hands down, but the US is still a shithole in so many ways and I know you know that pretty well..

btw the popularity of football and our people's tendency to football bets gave them a huge knowledge about world football (which, as yoyo said, is useless).. I know people who, are so dumb or carefree that they didn't even graduate from the elementary school, can name clubs from brasilian second league, or a hot prospect from norwegian league thanks to their effort of making money from football bets..
