Question of the Week: Who is Portugal's revelation player for 2011?

Sevillista

Starting XI
I haven't watched a single match of the Portuguese league this season, but I can confidently say that Diego Capel has been the revelation of the season (H)

previous note: Falcao is now at Patético and Veloso was transfered to Genoa a few seasons ago.

Porto has James Rodriguez as its most exciting player considering his age. Hulk is obviously our most influential player on the attack but James is soon going to be stalked by every powerhouse in the world of football. The kid is just too good!
Then there's Moutinho of course, an absolutely marvellous player that makes our team function as a real whole. He is our pendulum, an all-round midfielder who simply doesn't know how to play a bad game.
Also in the middle, I'd have to highlight Fernando's monster season so far...when it comes to DMs, in form he's truly as good as they get.
And at last but not least, Álvaro "Palito" Pereira! I'm lost for words considering the level he has reached, the way he simply rules his left flank like a ******* boss. Surely the best LB in the world atm...no bias here :innocent_smile_1:

So, I guess these players I've mentioned are the ones who are more likely to leave for the big stages in the next couple of seasons...apart from James who still needs to mature his game, I'd say everyone else will leave next Summer.

About Benfica, Gaitán and Witsel are definitely the ones to watch. I don't rate Nolito at all tbh, ok he's grabbed some goals and assists but he just isn't the kind of player I like to watch. Clumsy as ****, really can't see him hitting the spotlights in a stronger league.

Sporting started the season well enough and had good performances by the likes of Capel, Wolfswinkel and Rinaudo, but soon derailed into a state of mediocreness. They got Elias, a brazilian international who is a good player but can't do all by himself.
André Santos is a good prospect but nothing special, but I like a youngster they have loaned out to Depor, Diogo Salomão. He's doing good there, and I really like his style...skillfull, blazing winger, just needs to bulk up a bit and he'll be good to go. Reminds me a lot of Nani.

About the rest of the league, here are a few names you guys should remember for the future...there a couple more that I could mention, but these are the ones that real caught my eye so far:
Adrien Silva (Académica)
Éder (Académica)
Hugo Vieira (Gil Vicente)
Wilson Eduardo (Olhanense)
Christian Atsu (Rio Ave)

Is Defour any good?
good player no doubt, feels confortable in any position of the midfield and shows good technique and tactical awareness...needs to show up more during matches though, maybe not having a solidified spot in the first team keeps him from fullfilling all of his potential.

Hum i think the majority of potential revelations were already said.

Unfortunaly we dont see so many portuguese players on this list of revelations, thats kind of sad in my opinion, we have some nice prospects but the majority of them just dont have the opportunity of showing themselves and grow up as an athlete. They are forgotten or thrown into the 2nd League and then... forgotten. We have too many south-american players in my opinion, way too many. I understand that teams like Benfica and Porto cant just put an all portuguese team playing (and both teams are improving in this aspect, Benfica will have a Benfica B next season i think too) , but the smaller teams could. South-Americans come to our league when we have portuguese players capable of doing a good show.

Getting into the question now... maybe:

Helder Barbosa [SC Braga]
João Silva [ VFC] He didnt do great things and all, but i like him he seems some great prospect and really adult on his position, strong, young, really capable in my opinion, think he needs to jump to another team with more aspirations maybe.
Djaniny [UDL] Impressed me, Benfica bought him, lets see what he can do.
Nelson Oliveira [Benfica] Not really a revelation, he almost doesnt play, but oh well... hes one of the hopes i think..

^this ones arent revelations and stuff but with almost all the players being already posted i just went further with other players who might become nice.

Helder Barbosa might be impressing at Braga, but I don't think he'll get much bigger than that. I hated him when he was at Porto. Granted, he was a bit younger, but not younger than many players we see now who go on to greater things. It's funny how we are supposedly the second best u-20 team in the world and can't really say any of those guys will be any more than good.
