Question: Signatures

Why are there limitations on dimensions but not filesize. I mean there are 250*60 (or whatever it is) sigs that are like 1 mb.

I had a sig that was like 20 pixels over the limit but only 8kb and it was deleted before......

yeah, thats why i cant have the thing on my sig that shows which song i'm playing on my winamp list. It was really small width wise, but really long length wise. And it loaded really fast.

But rules are rules, and we have to respect them.

IMO there should be a size instead of dimension limit as that is what idacates the loading time But I suppose the rules are just the way it is, and there ain't much we can do to change them

I reckon there should be a dimensions limit and a file size limit...I say that because if there isn't a dimensions limit, people will start having fecking wallpapers as their sig and so the page would jump when it loads...which would be bloody annoying to put it mildly.

i dont really get how u cant have a sig that is bigger than 250x70 but people can have page long sigs........i do understand that theyre tryin to prevent from people puttin a wall paper that is like 1000x800 on their sig but if its not as big i dont see y it is a prob

The two people above me have more than 1 image in their sigs. Is that okay if their sizes are small?

technically you have 4 images in your sig - smilies are images too

but no its not allowed to have more than 1.

I'll get rid of their additional images

yeah, I know what you mean....not having a kb size kinda defeats the purpose of having sig rules at all....personally, i think there should be more than one allowed set dimension size (like I've seen at other forums) where sigs have to fit in for example 270x60, 240x70, and 300x50, etc.....but then have a strict 20kb size limit..

that way there's some variety and people won't abuse the sysatem

Yeah signature rules are defintely being discussed in the boardroom right now, and things will soon be changed to incorporate both image size, (physical and file size), and also text under the signature.

Ill keep you upto date.

Another thing I was wondering about was avatar size The limit just seems pretty small compared to other boards out there. Not that it really bothers me, I was just wondering if there's a particular reason or if that's just the way it's always been?

Yep. These will be the new dimensions. It just needs to be added to the official rules by Lior. It has been cleared.

Ok, we dont want to make avatars too large, as theyre all stored on the SG server, and really we have sigs for our personal images...

Its being discussed still in the boardroom, and Lior really feels that any increase either wouldnt be worthwhile, OR would be too large.

A move to 60x60 was discussed, but Lior felt it was too much. Whilst anything else really isnt worthwhile.

So for now, Id be happy with the larger signature size, and use ur artistic talent to fill it, rather than worrying about 10 pixels in your avatar
