Question to PSP 7 users

Hi I've recently begun using PSP 7(I was using PSP 8 earlier)
Anyways, I've noticed 1 astonishing thing-
Say for example u have a canvas with a plain red background, with a circle with black border drawn on it.
Now, if u select any shade, and try to flood fill the area inside the circle with that colour, the whole canvas gets that colour
This didn't use to happen with PSP 8
Any way this can be avoided?(I mean the new colour should stay only inside the black circle and the rest of the canvas should be red)
