[r] Liverpool - Crystal Palace

The Legend
Yes Kirkland is good, but he's the future. Right now Dudek is miles ahead of him (but Kirkland is part of a good crop of keepers). It's not that he made mistakes, but he (Dudek) could've stopped more shots than Kirkland, and Kirkland would still be good to go too. BTW, it's pretty ****ed up how he's hurt...i hate to see anyone get hurt like that.

In the first match, at Crystal Palace, if I hadn't have known that Liverpool were a Premiership team and someone had said guess who plays in the EPL, I wouldn't have been able to tell.

The replay though, was all Liverpool until Heskey created and 'finished' the worst attacking move I have seen for some time. Owen had enough chances to score a hat-trick at least and Palace couldn't even get out of their own half.

Then the 2nd half. Heskey and Owen bearing down on the Palace keeper. Normally I'd say if Heskey had passed it to Owen, Owen would have scored, but not on the form he showed yesterday. But it would have been a lot more likely than Heskey's feeble attempt. After that I thought, 'to think that these two are England's strike force'. I rate Owen, but his current form is worse than a blind Jason 'He's got a pineapple on his head' Lee. Houllier should put him on the bench for two games, give him a break. But all he seems to do at the moment is accuse his players and the FA. Wenger and Ferguson defend their players to the hilt.

Still it's a match that Liverpool should have won, but they didn't because they couldn't finish off their chances.

Not to take anything away from Palace mind, their first goal, albeit due to poor defending was a good goal. Their second an own goal from a dangerous ball across the face of the goal.

I don`t know wheter Owen played or not, but Liverpool tactics has always been play the ****ing long ball to Owen for him to chase. Well, sometimes it`s not like that, but very often. Without the likes of McAllister now, nobody really play how the game flows. They need some good decent playmaker.

Liverpool will rue the number of missed chances in the game.

In the first half at Anfield, they were a different class to First Division Crystal Palace. While they were a tat fortunate to escape from Palace unbeaten, they were certainly the better side in the first half. They made Palace run around and created a hatful of chances, which the strikers managed to miss all of them.

And then in the second half Heskey raced clear in a two-on-one situation, and should really have scored. Instead, he did what he does best, and passed the ball to the keeper.

Then came the suckerpunch that was almost inevitable. Long cross and it was converted expertly by the impressive Julian Gray.

Freedman got sent off for using the elbow, and deservingly so, but Liverpool still couldn't find a way through and conceded again when Henchoz was caught between heading and kicking the ball, and ended up chesting it in.

Questions must be raised to Houllier's decisions. Firstly, why was Owen playing instead of the in-form Baros. You can say all you want about the Czech international but he just came back from a goal against West Ham, and surely should have started.

Owen couldn't hit a barn door on the night, but that has been happening for most of the season.

And then why was Bruno Cheyrou left on the pitch and Danny Murphy subbed off? Cheyrou did a disappearing act - again, and surely should have been sacrificed when Baros needed to be put on.

Diouf doesn't contribute enough either. Baros does well when the team does well. He's too hot n cold. Cheyrou dissapoints wayyy to many times. Heskey gives his 100% every time he walks out...but that 100% isn't enough. Their play is boring to watch. Boring Yet effective is one thing . But Boring as well as Ineffective is criminal.

Yes, the we were very boring against Arsenal - did anyone else manage to stay awake in that match? What about against West Ham? Booooring.

Diouf is 21 and just getting adjusted to the EPL, Cheyrou is 24 and just getting adjusted to the EPL, and Baros is 21 - these players will get better. Of course this may be tough for Juve fans to understand that some players need time to get used to their surroundings before they can show their true potential - that's why you guys sold Henry (and Arsenal thank you for it every day).

Houllier must go.

Says the Juventus fan and the Arsenal fans, and the Chelsea fans and the United fans - however the Liverpool fans are sitting here and we have no problem with Houllier because we know what he's building and we know that firing him now will do Liverpool no good whatsoever. Nothing good will come from firing Houllier it will only put this very young team back another 4 or 5 years while some other guy comes in and tries to implement his ideas.

I love hearing ManU fans saying Houllier must go for poor results - if they were consistent some bloke called Alex Ferguson would have been fired a long, long time ago - but wait, they did want him fired back then cries of "Fergie Out" I believe........

Well I didn't call for his head and after watching Liverpool I conclude that it's media driven nonsense that LPool are boring and lack width. I am not being sarcastic!
It's also media driven that Murphy should not have been subsituted and Cheyrou removed.
What has one to do with the other?
Why is it mentioned in the same sentence?
Because Alan Green says so?

Anyway the reason I posted is that since returning to this forum I have seen this quote under Neutral's posts and if anyone or Neutral would be so kind to contextualize it for me I will be grateful.

I think Trevor Francis summer up Owens performance after the gtame when he said "Call yourself an England striker?"

Julian Gray dominated the second half for us, and when heskey just rolled the ball to Berthelin in the second half, I knew we would win, you could just see Liverpool deflate at that moment.

I just find it weird that Houllier would say something like that:
that them going out of the FA Cup could be a blessing in disguise. :( I'm sure loads of Reds are quite bemused by such a statement, as they were looking forwards to doing well in it.

Maybe Phil Thompson would be a good replacement

big nose played same tactics and same everything as houllier when houllier was sick ... the only thing of note he did was prevent the loan of mellor to a frenchclub ... houllier = big nose ... keep houllier

I was listening to a football phone in after the match and plenty of Liverpool fans rang in and said that Houllier must go. They claimed that the Frenchman was stifling Liverpool's creative style of play.
Under Evans they got nowhere in terms of winning the league, but at least there was entertainment in the number of goals, etc., but now Houllier's tactics is based on long ball and defence.
That's just the opinion of some fans, mind. I also know plenty who would love for Houllier to stay.

My personal opinion is that the question should only be raised at the end of the season. If Liverpool manages to qualify for the Champions League then sacking is completely out of the question, but otherwise, then maybe questions need to be asked.
Houllier has been given a lot of money to spend and while he has definitely remodelled the squad, he might have to lose a few of his players due to the lack of Champions Leauge football.
I wouldn't personally kick him out but then football is unpredictable. Managers are judged on results.

I disagree. Bruno Cheyrou did a disappearing act and should really been kicked off the field. He was completely useless in the second half and should have been replaced, and not the industrious Murphy.
