About the ref, why don't you follow Camacho's example? Now that's class. Besides, how can anyone complain about a penalty when Benfica's goal was preceeded by a flagrant foul? But I agree with Camacho: refs make mistakes too. The thing in Portugal is that people either talk about the refs or they're left with the obvious: Porto is way better than Benfica and Sporting.

Yeah, I do understand the seriousness of that "bomb", but I personally thought that it took way too long to get back to the game. It was frustrating for me, and after the incident I saw the Guimaraes player walking around talking to the press. That is waht got me mad, I wasn't pissed until they showed the guy up and walking around after, talking to the press. N E Ways whoever was responsible for this thing should be caught and dealt with, theres no room for this in soccer. This isn't the first incident with the Guimaraes, lets hope their hooligan fans go some where else to drop bombs........



About the reffing, I tried to follow Camacho's example, but I was holding it in for too long. I bet you Camacho is raging inside too! Benfica's goal came from 2 fouls, one from the Guimaraes defender who pushed down Simao, then Simao grabbed unto him and pulled himself up, fair call if you ask me. And the obvious is not that Porto is way better then Benfica and Sporting (Well, maybe Sporting...) thats not how it is. Porto has had many bad calls called in their favour, my friend is a huge Portista and he admits it. Porto has had way luckier calls this year....... Should I call it lucky, or intentional.................

yea, its time that the senseless violence has to stop. i remember last yr, in the same match (vitoria guimaraes x benfica), it was a hell of a lot worse, with destruction on a wide scale (what w/ people on the pitch making asses of themselves and the throwing of seats), it made me wanna vomit. no matter where this fixture is held, whether it be guimaraes, felgueiras or n e where else, the troublemakers are sure to follow. next yr, they should hold it behind closed doors, so the trouble won't happen. this pretty much sums up my feelings on what happened last night: .

now onto what happened on the pitch. i saw at least two things wrong with the goal by bessa. 1.) i saw handball by fangueiro (sp?), and 2.) bessa was offside by at least a step or two. i also was repeatedly screaming at the benfica players to stay out of the book, which they didn't listen to. maybe it was b/c i was doing it in my mother language (english), or maybe it was b/c i was several thousand miles away on a different continent.

finally, the golden globes are coming up, do y'all think that romeu and jvp should go up for one for best diver?

Yeah, I understand that, but the guy giving interviews was Rafael, who played for Porto last year (remember?) The guy that got injured was taken out of the pitch, on a stretcher, immediately, and his name is Marinho (not sure about the name).

Look, Benfica deserved the win, ok? I got no prob admitting that. They did. I also have no problem admitting that Porto has had a couple decisions in its favour all season long. But we also had a couple harmful decisions affecting us. I think that's normal. There's no point in summing up the number of penalties we should have had...

You want to talk about Benfica? Sure. I think Guimarães goal was legal, since there wasn't an offside and the ball passed 30cm away from Fangueiro's head. Avalanche1996, do us a favour and check that replay or, at least, listen to what the tv commentators had to say about it.
I also think Benfica's goal was preceeded by a foul by Simão, and that should have been a penalty on the end of the match.
In the begining of the season, Simão scored a penalty every week, some of them being ref's mistakes. In Estádio da Luz, the Benfica fans used to joke, by arriving late and asking if Simão had already scored the penalty!
But you don't hear me complaining about that, do you? I think that if anyone should shut the hell up, in what refereeing is concerned, then that has to be 3 big clubs.

Who I think has legit reasons to complain: Moreirense and Belenenses.

And, we 2 great games, we always end up talking more about the refs than football itself.

Yeah, yesterday I was just so pissed though. Its getting to the time where every point is critical and the loss of 2 points at the Guimaraes game hurted our chances and our momentum. I think Joao Ferreira was scared to give Carlitos the penalty, it was at a critical time and he didn't want to decide the game. I didn't see where the ref was but from most angles you could clearly see that it should have been a penalty and maybe a red card. Rogerio Matias (the guy who tackled Carlitos) admitted that it should have been a penalty.... Anyways enough with this, the title is most likely Porto's this year. Benfica just needs to win, I stopped counting the points Benfica is off Porto. We just need to play our best and maybe a Porto slip up will happen, ya never know...

Nacional is tied with Boavista 0-0 in the 80 minute, man we need Boavista to start going.... They could be in relegation danger if they continue like this

no, i am not a portista, look @ the 1st page of this thread, and see where my loyalties lie in at least four different countries. im saying that benfica has been living on past glory for at least the best part of the last decade. the last time they won the championship, i was in third grade. now im in my first year at university. that means i went through most of my childhood and most of my adolescence not knowing what it was like to win a major title (i don't count the taça de portugal, b/c its a mickey mouse competition that is only there b/c its an avenue into europe). i know, sporting had an even longer dry spell from 82 to 2000, but still, they have been the third club in this country and almost always will be. the only thing that will bump them up is if benfica get relegated, which might happen one day in the not too distant future if theyre not careful. also, they (benfica), along with many other clubs, are probably in millions of euros of debt, which somehow goes away thanks to a hell of a lot of smoke and mirrors and creative accounting that would make enron, arthur andersen, and worldcom proud.

oh, and hugo, i did see the replay, and you were right, there was no handball. i thought there was a handball, but then again, i was just putting my contact lenses in after my halftime shower (obviously more than ya needed to know). thanks for the heads up.

Mantorras is hurt right now, and he'll prolly be out the rest of the season. But if he returns to his best form next season, he is better than Postiga, Madrid already wants Mantorras. Also, if Nuno Gomes gets back in form, hes way better than Postiga, so really both strikers are better than Postiga


Yes Helder, I know he has had many health problems but hes returned to great form and is the best defender in Portugal ATM (IMO). He wins almost every header and every tackle. Great defender.
