I find it funny Madrid will most likely win the 2 competitions where Iker was in goal and lose the 1 where Diego Lopez. Especially when he was being hated on by the press and some of the fans.

He needs to play the last couple league games so he flows right into the final against the "Special simeOne"

It makes sense to give him more minutes ahead of the most important match of the season, maybe of the decade for Real. Plus if he hadn't played in the league yet, it ensures he has a medal if they also win La Liga.

I haven't watched Madrid enough to know exactly what their midfield dynamic is like, but the fact that Alonso, Modric and Di Maria don't get overloaded seems to me to be in great part due to their incredible ability. With an inferior player like Illara they might get overloaded. In a match where their opposition will likely look to exploit the space in front of the defense on the break, with two attacking fullbacks and without a very proactive CB like Pepe, having a more energetic, defensive player makes more sense, rather than having a possession-recycler like Illara. They will dominate possession anyway.
