It's a great way to see the extent to which a player is successful because of himself or is propped up by circumstances at the club he happens to be at, crucial if you are looking to buy a player and take him away from that club.
Of course it sometimes backfires, but in general I am a big advocate of disproportionately judging players on their performances at world cups and confederation tournaments.
