Reinstall Nightmares

First off, I bought my copy from the EA website and downloaded it (after what seemed like days of slow file transferring).

After experimenting with various patches (i.e. the "Next Gen" GFX patch by the German guys), I embarked on a managerial career. Six seasons in, the whole thing crashes after I play my next scheduled game. So, I thought I'd simply uninstall it and reinstall from the downloaded installation files and all would be peachy. But no. I keep getting my original, messed up manager's profile back with the fresh install. I am now at my wits end trying to resolve this issue.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I tried that but no joy. I even dug all traces I could find of it out of the registry, but still, after a fresh install complete with license key type-in, I'm back to the corrupted, patched malfunctioning horror show. It's like the mutated game has left its DNA all over the install codes. Maybe this has something to do with the perfidious DRM EA insist upon.

There's no DNA system in FIFA09.The game crashed probably because of the MM save file,so the problem resists after you have reinstalled it.If you scheduled any training, cancel them all.

I re-downloaded the game from EA's site again last night, believing my installation files had become corrupted. But guess what? Yes, same old problem.

Looks like the only way to fix this mess is to reinstall Windows XP. And those German guys that produced that NG patch should be publicly flogged.

I was neglected...:(

Vagus, cancelling training is one thing, but losing that hideous NG patch is something else. In fact, I can't get rid of any patches via reinstall. As I'm still enw to this game, it will take a while before I can work out how to undo all those stupid patches that add nothing worthwhile to the game.

hold on a sec here before you redo your entire hard drive. are you trying to open your saved game after the reinstall? vagus is right, in that case. fifa stores a large proportion of the database data in saved game files. it basically keeps separate databases for each saved game as well as the main .db files (this is how it remembers what players current stats are, who they're playing for, etc). thus, any patches applied when a new career is started will remain in the saved game even after they've been uninstalled. they will NOT be in any new games you start or friendlies, etc. however, unfortunately, your six season managerial career is pretty much done for. sorry.

Thanks for the extra replies.

It's all fixed now. I uninstalled FIFA 09 & EADM and cleared their references from the registry. But this time I removed the folders the game had created in "My Documents", something I had laughably overlooked during previous efforts at reinstalling.
