Remember 1998..?

OK firstly this is not a 'I hate FIFA 2002 post'. even if it is awful

What I want to know is how many people remember FIFA's great year - '98. The year they released RTWC and World Cup 98. The only two FIFA games which resembled football more than table tennis.

Does anyone still play them?

If not, do. Or buy ISS.. or just flame me.

I just resintalled recently and got the patch from Fifa RTWC and so that I could qualify and play in the WC. I am also playing ISS Pro Evo 2 (just to see what all the fuss was about).

Still

I still play RTWC 98, WC 98 and even FIFA 99 but I have a little problem w/my PC, the graphics on RTWC98 are kind of strange I don´t know why and the game freezes every now and then. But it´s still a great game, the cinema display at the beginning of a game, so many stadiums all over the world and ALL the qualifying teams. Anyway If only EA could remember those days.

OH YES!

Oh, do I remember??!!
Those games are still the best football-games made for PC!
I just love FIFA RTWC 98... (Guess that's why I still play and even put most of my free time into making patches for other fellow FIFA RTWC-lovers out there).
If you still have the game, go to http://www.fifartwc.cjb.net and get the latest update!
If you don't have it, make sure you get it! Check in the old fifa games forum, there you can get info on how to get it.

Your devotion to 98 is quite commendable :)

Unfortunately times have moved on mate :(

I've still got my copy of rtwc98 somewhere, but I canny see myself installing it again :p

Real LOVE! (For a game)

Well, actually I haven't been playing FIFA RTWC 98 non-stop since its release back in '97 as one might believe...
I was much like you, I had got later versions, FIFA99, FIFA2000 but I could never stick to them for more than a couple of days or so...
So I decided to reinstall my old FIFA RTWC 98 and check if it was as good as I remembered it...
It totally blew up in my face! The realistic scores of 1-0, 2-0, 2-1 instead of the tennis scores in the later versions, realistic game play, much slower play than newer versions, you could make amazing dribbles and play a good passing game. The reason why I still love this game is because even after all this time I still find it challenging. I even loose sometimes...
So I decided to make an update for the game. I first started on the EURO2000 teams as this was just before that tournament and went on creating new players and editing all existing ones, all data was taken from the Championship Manager database so it is correct. Just after I had released the first version of the update I came in contact with Dario. He agreed to let me use his great jerseys and helped me with new graphics.
Now about one and a half year later, I still play and update FIFA RTWC 98 and I ain't gettin' bored! I still love this game and can't get enough! I also have ISS Pro Evo 1 and 2 (I love the gameplay, it IS soccer!) but the editability and number of teams in FIFA RTWC still makes it number one!
Try installing it again mate! I bet it will wipe the floor with all newer FIFA titles. And make sure you get the update from http://www.FIFARTWC.cjb.net !

FIFA RTWC! Still the best football game for PC!

I really hope you do!
And if you want any help on the game whatsoever, don't hesitate to mail me at [email protected] and I'll help you!
A game play tip is to set up your controller (Gravis Game Pad Pro or whatever) so that you have no sprint button. This will make the game MUCH more challenging and the game play even more realistic! ;)

Up until a few days ago I had Fifa 98 RTWC, 99, 00, 01, and 02 installed. Was running out of Hd space so I removed all but 02. I think Im gonna put 98 back on though if I can find the CD.

I remember the 98 days... we had a 4 bdrm apartment in college and me and my 3 roommates would network that game for hours... Im sure the neighbors could hear us yelling across the living room and raising cain when we made good plays or scored a goal...

Can someone tell me where I can get the updates for it?

Yeah i remember FIFA 98 RTWC...it was the first FIFA gam eI bought and I thought it was excellent at the time although I seem to remember a really annoying thing where the player animations sometimes lasted a long time and quite often the player would carry the ball out of plqay during an animation

But I also bought FIFA 99 and this had tightened up that problem a bit :) but it didn't have the proper RTWC stuff :( . I seem to remeber RTWC had some nice african/oceania stadiums which were not always a 50,00 capacity...nice touch. That game definitely had atmosphere. And FIFA 99 is still great for the Champions' League.

I actually threw RTWC in the bin a couple of years ago thinking that I would never play it again but now I wish I had kept it.

I just tried re-installing FIFA 99 and it is definitely more fun than FIFA 2002...EA are definitely going backwards with the FIFA series. They need to sort things out for FIFA 2003. I'm sure they'll release FIFA 2002 World Cup edition very soon but that is bound to have exactly the same problems as FIFA 2002.

fifa 98 was dumb

For fun I would go end to end with my keeper and score. I would just do spin moves and side steps all the way up the feild.
